Milford Lodge has proven to be the right choice of home for our mother. She is treated well and her needs are met, so much so that her overall health and well-being have improved since her moving in. It is comforting to see familiar faces each time we visit. It is a warm, welcoming, friendly and re-assuring home.
A friendly care home. staff look after mother extremely well. Sadly she refuses to use all the facilities but she is always asked to join in. Her room is basic and could be better decorated but mother is reluctant. Her bed linen needs changing more often but mother asks her carers not to do so. Sadly this is not to her benefit. She is happy and that is the main thing.
My mother was a retired hairdresser and on her arrival day she was offered a wash and blow dry which was a stroke of genius to settle her into her new environment. Mum was not a great mixer with people and had most of her meals in her room or the lounge, which again was not a problem for the staff. Her care was second to none, she was very well looked after over her 6 month stay and cared for sensitively during her end of life. The friendly and helpful staff were always on hand when I visited to give me updates on how Mum was progressing. Towards the end, I received regular telephone calls on my mum's declining health. I shall miss my visits to Milford Lodge and seeing the friendly staff who were always pleased to see me. I can thoroughly recommend Milford Lodge, an outstanding care home.
Great staff. Attentive. Caring. Professional.
My sister has settled well at Milford Lodge and I feel she is well looked after. Every worry, medical or social, that I have raised has been dealt with well. Great efforts have been made to help her to be happy and join in. Allowances are made for her personality.
My father went into Milford Lodge in 2019 as he was no longer able to care for himself. The location in Hitchin is good with easy access to the pub next door and a short walk into Hitchin (which is possible with a wheelchair). The facilities are very good and well looked after - the garden is particularly well kept and accessible. The rooms are modern and kept very clean. They have a good activities programme and take the residents out on regular trips which my father really enjoyed. The staff at Milford have been fantastic with my father - particularly through the covid crisis and more recently when his health got worse. I was constantly kept informed of his situation and the support given to my family in his final days was exceptional. I have nothing but praise for the quality of care that he was given by the team during his stay. We did look at a number of other care homes in the area however Milford Lodge proved to be an excellent choice.
Mum has been at Milford Lodge for just over a year now. I live abroad so it's great to know she's so well looked after by the lovely staff and management team. Everyone seems to care so genuinely for the residents - never short of a compliment, a kind word or a hug. A particular staff member always keeps my sister and me informed about changes in Mum's mood and varying states of confusion. Two members of staff in particular do an amazing job arranging outings and activities, which definitely brighten up the weeks. I know it has been difficult to attract and retain staff in the current economic climate, so I hope no one tempts anyone away! Services such as hairdressing and manicures are sometimes a bit hit-and-miss, leaving the staff with quite a bit of running around to do. Mum is a big worrier, and we found out when sitting in the garden with other residents that a couple of others are too. It might be beneficial to get them all chatting about their concerns rather than bottling them up.
My brother had the pleasure of spending a week's respite with the lovely people and staff at Milford Lodge. All the staff were kind and understanding with the residents and nothing was too much trouble. In what can be a distressing time, my brother was treated with the utmost care and dignity. Myself and other members of my family that visited are all of the same opinion, Milford Lodge is by far the best care home my brother has been in.
My mother was accepted at quite short notice into the care home. The staff were very welcoming and they quickly made her feel at home. She had her meals delivered to her room which she enjoyed. Within a few days of arriving there, Mum was able to have her hair trimmed and set which boosted her morale no end. The care that she had was exceptional and the staff were very good at getting a district nurse or GP to visit when they were needed. Nothing was too much trouble. When the family visited they offered us tea and coffee regularly. They were quite happy for us to visit any time day or night and towards the latter part of her stay, we could be with Mum overnight sitting in an armchair and we were offered pillows to make ourselves more comfortable. The staff were very kind and considerate to us talking about Mum's care and how she was doing. I would thoroughly recommend this care home to anybody.
Care was excellent. Staff are helpful and attentive, always kind and gentle with Mum and very friendly to us all. I felt the care was very personalised and Mum was treated very much as an individual. The room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. Mum enjoyed the meals provided.
My elderly father stayed for 2 weeks after major surgery. I was quite nervous as I had no experience of care homes. I found everything to be excellent from being shown around to picking him up at the end of his visit. It didn't feel like how I imagined a care home to be - it was all really nice, my father described it as magnificent and wonderful, 24 hours after arriving. I watched the interaction between the staff and the residents carefully and this was excellent. I have no concerns about recommending this and would actually give it 10 out of 10. Maybe I would knock off one point as they only have instant coffee and the wifi didn't seem great. I think this puts it into context how good it is also the fact that I'm normally quite critical in raising points but there really want anything!
Thank you to all the staff at Milford Lodge for helping my father recover from his fractured hip during his 5-week stay. All the staff showed great kindness to my father and our family, which was much appreciated. Particular thanks to one member of staff, in particular, who was very supportive to us all.
My mum has been a resident at Milford Lodge for nearly 4 years and I always find the staff very friendly. I know my mum is in very safe hands, treating my mum with care, dignity and friendship. Milford is a lovely home - clean, safe and, I think, value for money. Thank you Milford Lidge - 10 out of 10.
My mother-in-law has vascular dementia which was diagnosed in 2015. She was sadly widowed in January 2019 and as her primary carer passed away my daughter (granddaughter) and I took over her care. It was very difficult and demanding through this pandemic but we persevered with the help of her neighbours. Milford Lodge was recommended to us by her neighbour. We went to have a view and a chat with the manager and we were so happy with what we saw ourselves. Mum was placed in their care in June 2021. Her care is impeccable. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much for them. The dementia unit is so friendly for the residents and they are free to touch things and stroll in the garden etc as they are under careful watch. They are treated with respect and dignity. Mum has been here now for 6 months and is thriving well and thus has made us feel relaxed.
Milford Lodge has been the perfect home for my mum. The staff are so friendly and caring and it's just like an extended family there. Mum often says "you would not find a better home". During very difficult times with Covid we had to rely on the staff of Milford to go the extra mile with all the residents and they really did go the extra way. Thank you so much for all your hard work and patience.
Very pleased with the care and support. Appreciate that two carers went down with COVID19 during my mother's visit. Also lack of activities for one of the weeks due to holiday and sickness.
I have been so impressed with the level of care that is provided. The management and staff are always very approachable and I feel that I am listened to. On my numerous visits to Milford Lodge, there are many residents around who seem to be very content and at home in their surroundings. I cannot thank everyone enough for their unstinting efforts during the past 18 months.
Whilst it has sadly been a very difficult time of late, we have felt the staff have always done their best to ensure that Mum is taken care of. Many thanks for your hard work and patience.
I last reviewed Milford Lodge in January 2018. Much has changed for my mum during the last two years, her mobility, dementia and general health has deteriorated drastically. However, Milford has done so much to support mum and look after her with empathy and kindness. The last 4 months have been extremely difficult during the COVID outbreak with all visits suspended and the home being locked down for safety. Milford did wonderfully well not losing a single person to COVID, which is absolutely outstanding! I would recommend Milford as a great location with dedicated and loving staff.
I find the home a very welcoming environment. The staff work hard under difficult circumstances during the covid pandemic. They seem to try and include my mother in the activities, even though she is very stubborn.
