View Full Details of Chaucer House Care HomeThe care and support my father had during his time at Chaucer House Care Home was excellent. He and the family were supported with kindness from all staff. During his last days, the staff went above and beyond to support my father and the family at this difficult time. The staff at the Chaucer always showed kindness and care. We cannot thank them enough for their support and hugs.
Finding a nursing home for Mum was never going to be easy. Chaucer House has done a sterling job of getting her settled in, they have listened to her and, after a nearly six-month period in hospitals, they are working hard to get her to relax and enjoy her new home. Things have improved and her concerns are always addressed in full, making my life easier!
Since March 20th my Father has been in this care home and from my opinion my and post-experience in other care homes you really feel like they care about about you and give friendly and emotional support. Loving the experience and recommend the best positive opinion. They need more staff, they are friendly even when you can see they are tired, please increase staff.
Chaucer House is welcoming, has open areas, is clean, and smells neutral. The care is of a high standard. My Mum is always clean, and tidy, her clothes are spotless and well looked after. The staff are approachable and care for me too. The staff treat my Mum as an individual and with dignity. She is safe and loved where she is.
Myself and my husband visited Chaucer's House for the first time last week, we came to visit my sister who has recently become a resident. I was anxious to see my sister in her new home and was delighted with the experience! Upon entering, we immediately felt relaxed in the lovely surroundings. The reception area is lovely, the high ceilings created a great sense of space and were very bright. The manager, came to say hello and made us feel so welcome showed us around, and introduced us to the staff. My sister has a beautiful room with plenty of space.. in fact everywhere was clean and spacious and I loved the interior furnishings. We left the home feeling extremely confident and reassured that my sister was in safe hands and would be happy in her lovely new home.
My Mother became a resident here on the 4th of June. So far I can say nothing but positives about the home. My mum has complex needs and has been interacted with continually, the nurses have been great with her. My mum has formed a bond with several carers and they seem to be caring for her. Thanks for everything so far.
At the end of two weeks, my sister was left with 9 additional pressure sores - verified by district nurses (she went in with two). Many times she was left without a visit for excessive hours according to their own record (2.5.24 she was left all day from 5.52h to 19.18h without a continence or personal care visit). She was not kept hydrated and returned with a UTI. She had no means of entertainment. Overall it was like solitary confinement with sensory deprivation for two weeks. No notice was taken of her dietary requirements. Consequently, she went without sometimes. On each of my four visits over two weeks, I found a different nurse. I found the nurses had not read the handover notes. When she left her controlled drugs were not returned but her other drugs were. This kind of laxity with drugs and medical care should be concerning. I have kept this factual. Overall this place is inadequate and offers a dangerously low level of care.
My wife was here for two weeks of respite care. When she went in, she had two bed sores, when she came home she had nine bed sores as verified by our district nurses. Obviously being left in the same position for too long. Continents pads were not changed on a regular basis resulting in soreness and severe UTI now dealt with by GP. Carers were not reading the notes, resulting in my wife having the wrong breakfast. Her hair was very matted, pointing to neglect! My wife was basically left in a state of solitary confinement, when she arrived home, she was severely dehydrated and in a state of deep depression. I am now waiting for the results of the safeguarding issue raised by our nurses, other complaints have been made to the necessary authorities, let's hope something is done.
Some really good staff, members of the estate team. Some superb, encouraging care staff. A number of senior carers and carers. My mother should always be encouraged to do things that are good for her. Food is probably very good for the main generational group. Activities I am sure will improve, often they do not run or give the necessary encouragement to residents to be included. There will be an increased focus on the garden, I am not sure how useful this will be other than fresh air for many. Management has improved in recent months. Prior to that not so good. Poor advice and recommendations i.e wheelchair purchase. Health and safety issue in December on main road.
Since my mother-in-law has been at Chaucer House she has gone from being bed-ridden with no movement and very little speech, to now walking with her walking aid and voicing her views on most things. The staff are extremely kind and patient. This applies to the majority of them. Everyone is entitled to an off day, The care home is kept clean. My mother-in-law's room is cleaned every day. The laundry service is first rate and the meals are diverse and always of a good standard.
Living overseas I feel confident leaving my 95-year-old mother in the care of Chaucer House. Despite my mother's vulnerability suffering from what is verging on advanced dementia and being restricted due to her severe mobility problems this home, its staff and management give me peace of mind keeping at bay those insidious nighttime worries that would otherwise keep me awake.
Thank you sincerely for all your care and politeness. Really grateful for all that you have all done.
I would like to say, from the day our mother came to Chaucer House Care Home until the day she left, I have nothing but praise for all the staff and I mean all - the receptionist, carers, managers, housekeepers, chefs, maintenance staff and activity organiser. Everyone has shown support, respect and care for the residents and relatives. Mum died recently, she always said how happy she was at Chaucer House. That made her family happy.
My father has spent five happy years at Chaucer House Care Home. Staff have been wonderful. Their approach to his requests to enable him to use his digital technology, to pursue his interests and to enable visits and outings has been understanding and invariably helpful. Dad’s mobility has recently become a problem and the busy staff have responded well with practical help and with kindness.
Everything seems satisfactory. Mother has settled in the routine of home life.
Due to a shortage of permanent staff, the knowledge of agency staff is not constant. There should be more time given for any agency staff to be made aware of all the needs of the individual. Care home staffing is much in the news at the moment and the staff at Chaucer House Care Home are incredibly kind and caring but are constrained by bureaucracy and red tape - needless to say, their wages are pitiful and it is no wonder there is a constant need for agency staff.
The standard across the board is very good. Any issues that I have raised have been dealt with quickly and professionally. Considering that staff levels are lower and (poorly paid), they perform overall extremely well.
My family and I have been very pleased with the care our mother has received in the home. All the staff are helpful, cheerful, professional and take much care to ensure residents have all they need. Mum is well looked after here. Thank you.
My recently deceased dad was a resident at Chaucer House during the past 9 months, where sadly at times his dementia could make him a difficult man to deal with. We came upon Chaucer House after researching the care offered along with reading many reviews. From day one dad was given a very warm welcome by all staff members. Our concerns regarding nursing homes were soon diminished, as it soon became very apparent the care and kindness he received from the manager and all members of staff were wonderful and genuine. He himself regularly praised the care and assistance they gave him which was always nice to hear. The family would highly recommend Chaucer House for the care and compassion given to both resident and family members. We appreciated being allowed to visit my dad during his last few days, especially in these very difficult times. The family would like to take this opportunity in thanking all staff members at Chaucer House, you were wonderful!
My mum spent a period of respite here and was so happy she chose Chaucer House to be her permanent home. I am so glad that she did, she had a stroke whilst a resident, and was able to be discharged back to the home following her hospital admission. She is totally reliant on the nurses and carers for all her needs, she requires to be spoon-fed thickened fluids to survive and was not expected to live for long following her stroke. Six months later she has celebrated her 86th birthday, in lockdown at the home. The nurses and carers have become her second family, they arranged a pureed birthday cake of strawberries and cream, her favorite food, washed down with some Baileys! She has received excellent care and support and would not have survived without the help that has been provided by the team at Chaucer House. Thank you!
