My husband has found it difficult to settle at night, refusing to go to bed or have personal care. Managers and carers have been great, coming up with ideas to help him. Ladies on reception have been great, finding someone to update me (I don't live locally) and chat to me when I leave after a visit and I am upset. Everyone is so friendly and, although I am upset when I leave, I know my husband is being cared for.
We are happy with this care home. The carers are helpful and very friendly. The food is good and there's always a good choice of food.
My father has lived at Dukeminster for 6 and a half years, initially, needing help with everyday living but more recently more care and attention for his Alzheimer's affliction. From the early days of his residence there, through the difficult COVID era and now that he is in one of the more specialised dementia-care units, my father has been not only cared for, but cared about, by all the staff. From housekeeping and maintenance, through to carers and catering, to administration and activities, teh whole house shows that 'care' really is the operative word. The menus and ancillary foods are carefully planned, the activities and entertainments are thoughtful and engaging, and the personal and medical care is beyond reproach, with the house and residents' laundry being kept super-clean. I was disappointed for teh staff when the latest CQC report was published in December 2023. The downgrading seemed largely to revolve around administration and 'protocols'. The care, environment and facilities provided at Dukeminster, which are by far the more important factors, should easily have given the house a better score. I have quite long experience of this care home and can say that I would not have my father anywhere else.
My mum started residing at Dukeminster in September. She previously lived with my sister, who died in June and was very reluctant to move but knew she needed full-time care. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff and management in making my mum so welcome. She has settled in better than we could have wished for. The care and attention she is given are outstanding, and although she would rather be in her own home, she is happy. The only criticism is the standard of food - it can be a bit hit-and-miss at times.
My mum is very well looked after. She would get more out of the activities if she joined in, but she often chooses not to. Great food and choices on the menu. Enjoys getting her hair done every week, and occasionally nails too. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and caring. Occasional lift breakdown, but that seems better now. Communal areas are not large, but good use is made of space available. Rooms are kept clean and are a good size. Overall, I am pleased my mum is there.
My father (97) came to Dukeminster in July 2023 when no longer able to live alone. Our first impressions of Dukeminster as a very clean, spacious facility, professionally run with calm, friendly and helpful staff have been borne out in the care Dad has received to date. The senior management team have demonstrated insight and patience in providing him with appropriate levels of personal, medical, and psychological care and support. Any queries or concerns we may have are always dealt with promptly. Staff are efficient and friendly and for Dad at least, seeing their different coloured uniforms helps him to understand what to expect from each individual. The catering is excellent such that he stays hydrated with drinks and regular meals throughout the day. The laundry, housekeeping and maintenance service is exemplary. The reception area is always very welcoming and we appreciate how a balance is maintained between familiarity and privacy for both residents and their visitors.
We put Mum into this care home to keep her safe and now we have lost her! She was sent up to A&E with a suspected stroke. She had actually had a fall which staff were unaware of which ultimately caused her to pass away from her injuries less than two weeks later. The ladies on reception and the majority of carers work extremely hard. What I am disappointed in is the management, when we initially discussed Mum's needs, it was discussed that Mum doesn’t like male carers and likes to be attended to by female carers which is stated on her care plan. I have since found out that on that night of her accident, her personal care was being tended to by a male carer and had also been on other occasions too. I also asked if Mum was found on the morning of her accident via a routine check or via her room sensor going off and was told the sensor was faulty. The manager also said that Mum hasn’t previously had falls but she has! The manager also has never once said ‘I’m sorry for your loss!’
Excellent care. Great compassion from carers and staff.
Our journey from the initial meeting at Dukeminster Court has been fantastic. Calm and attentive. The staff have been so supportive. Nothing is too much trouble. We are so happy with Mum's care at Dukeminster Court. We thank you all.
Home from home. Special people who care and love for all people, treating them with dignity.
Mum came for three weeks respite following a fall at home. The care and compassion displayed by all the staff here are exemplary.
I visited Dukeminster Court for the first time this month and was most impressed with the home. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, the home was immaculate and my friend is very well cared for. Congratulations to you all!
My mother moved into Dukeminster Court following a stroke whilst waiting for the completion of a retirement flat. She loved it so much she decided to stay at Dukeminster on a permanent basis! My mother is very happy and feels very well looked after by all the wonderful staff. She has a lovely room, enjoys the company of the staff and the other residents and happily participates in all the fabulous activities. The food is great too! As a family member, the staff at Dukeminster couldn't be more friendly and helpful. We are very happy with the home.
Dukeminster Court is a modern, well presented, very comfortable home. The real gem to its success as a residential property is the staff. They are very kind, attentive and caring to the residents. They spend time getting to know them and put together a fantastic activity programme that keeps the residents entertained, engaged and happy. My mum was meant to be at Dukeminster Court temporarily but chose to stay permanently; that really says everything about it!
Absolutely wonderful visit with my brother for his birthday. The COVID prevention procedure is excellent. Well done Dukeminster!!!
As always, a very good experience, and all the staff are great and very helpful.
Mother's care is without doubt second to none. The care she receives and the support on a daily basis lets her maintain her dignity and independence. Everyone involved with her care treat her with love and affection, making her and my brother and I feel she is not just a resident but part of a family community. We appreciate the care and support she is given and thank everybody involved.
We think Dukeminster Court is a great place for Mum. Really friendly and a great feeling about the place. Would highly recommend.
Just visited Mum indoors for the first time. Staff are very welcoming and the procedure was efficient. I will be glad when we can all get back n and take our relatives out.
