View Full Details of Wytham HouseMy mother had been a resident of Wytham House for over three years and her care in that time has been amazing and faultless. She really enjoyed the entertainment and activities. Her care at the end of her life was so appropriate and caring. Her care was always discussed with us and the staff always made sure that mum was comfortable and calm. At the end the staff made sure that we were comfortable, offering us food and drinks and making sure they didn’t intrude on our last hours with mum, though they were always there if we needed them. I would not hesitate to recommend Wytham House to anyone.
As a family we feel very lucky to have chosen Wytham House for my father, who is blind and also has dementia. The staff are extremely caring, and clearly make a great effort to treat residents with respect and make them feel at home. It is easy for friends and family members to visit my father: we are always made to feel welcome. The home itself is always clean and well-organised, and the location is good for walks around the grounds.
My wife was content during her brief stay in Wytham House. The staff were patient, caring and friendly. The facilities were clean and tidy. The activities staff worked hard to ensure the residents were stimulated.
Sadly, my Aunt has just died after 5 years at Wytham House. Five years ago we rescued her from a horrible home where social services had put her, and could not be happier with our choice, which gave her a lively and caring environment to spend her last few years. We were so happy that she was able to stay there until she died gently and naturally.
The home has had some serious issues and has at times failed residents and relatives - but now things are looking very good. I am very impressed with the manager, deputy, reception, kitchen staff and activities staff. There are some incredible nurses and carers but unfortunately, there are care staff who do their job but do not connect with the residents - perhaps not having dementia training?
I believe kindness is the most important attribute of all and I would say that Wytham House Care Home is especially marked for this as the staff (almost without exception) seem to be extremely kind and gracious towards everyone in their care, even when their patients are not being easy! Lovely that drink is always available now, it would be great if it could be offered more frequently!
Overall a good experience, considering the sad circumstances. Thank you.
I have always found the home where my mum is living to be extremely good. The staff are friendly towards us and more importantly, treat my mum with great care and respect. This is a great source of comfort to me as I know my mum is well looked after.
We find the care home very friendly and welcoming to both residents and visitors. We always find our mother-in-law very happy and content and the staff friendly, caring and attentive. any requests are always dealt with swiftly and appropriately. We have no concerns regarding the care or welfare of my mother-in-law.
A very warm welcome from all of the team. Everyone we met took the time to chat to us. Clean facilities. A lovely stay. Thank you for looking after Granny so well.
A very warm welcome on arrival. We were with Mum, staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Each member of staff acknowledged us and refreshments were readily available. The cinema room, which was made available to us, was clean, tidy and a very nice environment. The whole building was clean and tidy and had a nice, relaxed atmosphere!
The care my mother received at Wytham House was good, and I am very grateful for that. However, I am posting a review now to alert potential clients that I am having enormous difficulty getting back money that I am owed by Aria Care. I don't know if I'm uniquely unlucky in this, or whether other clients are finding the same. This is the straightforward repayment of a deposit, that was due in mid-March. At the time of writing (2 May) I am still waiting for the money to be credited to my account. In the only email I have received from the credit department (7 April) I was told that an invoice would be issued to me the following week. Still nothing, and I have been emailing to ask for updates.
The carers and staff are wonderful and have worked under immense pressure over recent years. I am grateful for the care given to Mum over many years. The reason for the four rather than five stars is the cost of care. I didn't give a rating for activities as Mum cannot partake in any.
My father has been a resident for a number of months and has settled in quickly. The manager is very approachable with a very caring and compassionate manner. My father has a tailored care plan and the staff have been amazing in following and assisting my father.
Wytham House is set in a beautiful location, welcoming you from both outside and inside. Staff are friendly and kind. They attend to residents' needs promptly. My wife has been there for three years now. Before the pandemic, the service was excellent in every approach. During the pandemic, everybody had difficult times, but now the situation has improved.
My wife seems to have settled with this splendid environment. I wonder what the next move will be.
Wytham House offers care, encouragement and empathy to all its residents. Also, as a relative, it has been a relief to have confidence in the safety aspects and inclusion, where possible, in a variety of activities. I always feel the staff take a personal interest in their residents whatever their limitations. In addition, during the difficult days of the pandemic, the staff remained calm and courteous during phone calls. It is definitely a place to recommend for dementia care.
Wytham House is a sinking ship. I have been trying to get my mother out of there for the last month but because of yet another covid outbreak, I could not move her until now. The nurses and remaining staff are trying their best but they are struggling. Communication with residents is poor and complaints to the company are not dealt with satisfactorily. To say I am disappointed by them is an understatement. Caring Homes are more interested in profit than care and the service my mother gets considering what she pays in fees is basic, to say the least. What they promise on their website is not what they provide. They have just raised the fees by 8% which is unacceptable.
I was initially very happy with the care of my father - they managed to get him without a catheter and there was a real sense that they were trying to connect with him. However, since lockdown Caring Homes have focused on safety over the quality of life. No one advocated for those with dementia - who spent 18 months being cared for by staff in masks. The home itself also has staff shortages now - regrettable but this has meant a reduction in care standards. For example, he was found in another resident's clothes, his stick broke and no one informed me until I visited and communication has almost exclusively only happened when we initiated it. He is not getting the value of care he is paying for. Individual staff do their best but sadly I get the sense that the shareholders are happy taking their cut rather than investing in providing good care e.g. installing a screen so that residents could have visits more safely during the lockdown. (As an introvert no one accommodates him with 1-1 walks.)
My mother moved here in May 2021. I have always been impressed with the caring way she has been looked after and the staff are good at letting me know what is happening. It has clearly been a difficult time during Covid, but the staff were very accommodating when I came to visit Mum after 18 months of being unable to see her (I live abroad). There have been times when it is difficult to get through to my mother's unit as there is only one line into the home so it is not uncommon for either the main line not to pick up or when it does they can't get through to the unit. It can take several tries. The main thing is I know Mum is being well looked after and is safe. She has always complimented on how good the food is.
