View Full Details of Fleetwood Heights Care HomeDad went into this home at the end of August on palliative care fast track. We only had the choice of 2 nursing homes and we were falsely led to believe that Dad would receive the best care possible. It had only just re-opened under new management and seemed to cater for everything Dad would require in his last few months of life. How wrong were we? Dad had no dignity, he was left in bed with no underwear on. He often slept in clothes he'd worn all day. The room that he was in quickly began to smell of urine and the stench in the bathroom was unbearable. The Nurse in charge left the premises and did not complete the necessary paperwork to certify his death so he was just left in his room for almost 10 hours. That home should never have re-opened. The staff were clueless and never around when needed. Some could barely speak English. My dad was a very proud, dignified man and I'm devastated that he spent the last 18 days of his life in a place where he just wasn't cared about.
The management and medical staff were absolutely brilliant when my uncle was asked to move from his care home at exceptionally short notice. They were calm and sorted all the necessary medical assessments and paperwork with minimum fuss. They dealt with his former care home with professionalism and courtesy. Guiding me through a difficult process as I live 200 miles away from my uncle. They arranged the transfer and settled him into a beautiful room with all the necessary equipment and fully trained staff to support his care. I could not have asked for more. Thank you all so very much.
I can not praise Calderdale Retreat enough for the way my mum was treated whilst spending the last eighteen months plus of her life. My mum went to the care home and perked up, making friends with lots of people in there. The staff were amazing, they treated my mum with dignity and respect, they did lots of stuff with the residents and I witnessed this first-hand. I can not praise the staff enough for the way my mum was treated in the last few weeks of her life. The care she received from all the staff was more than we could have asked for. Even down to the respect and dignity in her final hours. They looked after us in the final hours too even after Mum passed. They even had some of Mum's loungewear made into a memory bear for us which was totally unexpected. I can not recommend this care enough to people for their loved ones.
My dad has been at Calderdale Retreat for over twelve months now and I am really pleased to say he likes being there very much. They have got to know his likes and dislikes and everyone treats him with respect. They encourage him to join in the activities and all the staff are lovely with the residents. All areas are kept lovely and clean and the food is great and plenty of it. My dad does get confused sometimes but the staff are used to this and help him feel okay again, so needless to say I am happy with this home.
My brother has been a resident in Calderdale Retreat for several months, he is very well cared for, I cannot fault this care home at all. All excellent apart from activities which are good in spite of being short-staffed. The relevant staff do their utmost in this and all other aspects of this care home.
I cannot praise all the staff enough at Calderdale Retreat. They have all been so kind, caring and helpful. The whole experience has far exceeded my expectations. My mother is happy there and has started to socialise in her own way and this has amazed me as she has never been a social person. Many thanks to all.
The moment I walked into reception, I knew this was the right place for my elderly mum to begin her rehabilitation. Mum was stressed, confused and quite despondent when she arrived. It's been a huge and sudden change for Mum, who lived independently until her fall. As soon as I arrived, I was asked about Mum's likes/dislikes, hobbies and background – all to help Mum settle in. The staff were careful to respect that she’s not a socialiser and to let her participate as much or as little as she likes in the activities and gently encouraged her to get out of her room to meet the other residents. She’s receiving the care and support she needs. The staff always let me have updates on how Mum is doing – usually catching me as I make my way to Mum’s room – I don’t have to ask. Absolutely everyone there has such a brilliant, caring, compassionate approach – from reception, cleaners, kitchen staff, caretakers, carers, and senior carers. It feels like one big family.
The reason I have put poor for activities is because they are usually not relevant to the holiday, for example, for Easter they did eggs which is nothing to do with the meaning of Easter.
It was with a heavy heart to have to place Mum in permanent care. Mum has stayed at the Retreat on two occasions previously on respite care. The large en-suite rooms are perfect for my mother, who is not a sociable character. Her room is equipped with its own TV, which makes mum happy and the added bonus of each room with access to a firestick. Mum developed Alzheimer's during in lockdown 1 and unfortunately is progressing really quickly. Throughout the pandemic, the home, the management team and staff having remained calm, safe and going that extra mile for our loved ones in this difficult time. The home also benefits a visitors pod/centre, which enables weekly visits. We have a family are extremely happy with mum's care. The staff are amazing people.
Throughout the Covid pandemic, all the staff from the management team to the laundry and cleaning staff, have worked extremely hard to provide a safe, caring environment for all the residents. They have installed a Covid safe Pod to allow close relatives to visit their loved ones. It has been a great relief to myself and my family to know that Mum is safe and very well cared for. Thank you and well done to them all.
The care home and staff are amazing, all they have done to care for the residents in very difficult times has been truly wonderful. They have given their all to keep residents happy, safe and well.
The care home staff are hard-working and caring. I wouldn't want my mother anywhere else. The cleanliness of the home is of a high standard. Thank you for all the efforts by the superb staff.
My Mum has been at Calderdale retreat for a couple of years now, she is 92 years old and it was a difficult decision for the whole family to place her in a care home as she speaks limited English. Much to our delight, she has progressed so very well under your professional care and trained staff's excellent care that you all provide her. Secondly, I must commend all your staff and the management in how you have handled everything so very well during this difficult Pandemic time. Good job done. Thirdly, I would like to especially thank the staff for arranging a Video call once a week with my mum, which allows us all to do a group video call with all her 4 children. Myself, being so far away, it’s heartwarming to see my mum taken good care of. This is the only way we are able to see her and it’s gratifying for her to see myself and both my two sisters and brother. We're all looking forward to being united very soon. Thanking you all - continue the good work.
My mum has been in the Retreat now for just over a year. It was a hard decision for me to put mum into care but I can honestly say it was the best decision for her and her health. She is well cared for by the carers. The food is very good and the activities they put on for the residents are great, it keeps them busy and entertained throughout the day. The housekeeping staff do a great job keeping the home spotless. Managers keep you informed on all matters of your relative's health issues, whether it's big or small. All in all, I am one happy daughter because my mum is safe and happy and well cared for.
My mum has been in the care of Calderdale Retreat for over 12 months and the care she has been given has been excellent. She has made many friends and the staff have made her welcome and given utmost care for her needs. The rooms are all ensuite and comfortable, you can put personal touches to the resident's rooms to make them feel at ease, meals provided are varied with a good choice daily. Through COVID19 I have to commend the team for keeping all the residents safe in which has been a very difficult time. Visitors and outside entertainment has not been allowed so extra pressure on the staff to keep the residents entertained, which they have done an amazing job. It is very hard when you have to put a loved one in care but I would highly recommend Calderdale Retreat.
My dad has been a guest at the Calderdale Retreat for the last two months. Prior to coming to the Retreat, he had been in hospital. I was initially against the move into the Retreat and was very vocal in stating how much I wanted him to go home. What can I say? I am happy to say, I have changed my mind. I cannot fault the Calderdale Retreat on any level. The love and care that they have shown my dad is beautiful and touching. He's happy. He's warm, he's well fed. He's loved and cared for. What more could I want as a daughter? He looks so well! The staff are amazing and go above and beyond. I'm am able to speak to him regularly, via phone, facetime or skype. He looks like he's having fun! His clothes are clean and fresh, he's clean-shaven. The food is great, fresh and healthy. I really couldn't ask for anything more for him. They are dealing with the exceptional circumstances we are faced with love and humour and care. Top marks! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
I would like to thank every member of staff at the Calderdale Retreat for their commitment and care throughout this crisis, I am eternally grateful for the communication and face timing which has been regular throughout all of this. My parent is in great hands and I feel confident that thanks to the procedures in place, we will be united again soon. MASSIVE THANK YOU EVERYONE.
My husband has been here for eighteen months now. He arrived a haunted disturbed and distressed man. The staff team with direction from their fabulous manager worked with him, were patient and quietly caring and gave him space, the time and the tools to recover and repair his peace of mind. After a fifteen-year journey through the traumatic, violent and disturbing realms of dementia he has arrived at a place of sanctuary and peace. Through the care of the complete team, the care staff, domestic and catering staff and everybody else he is in a happy place. His behaviour is now reminiscent of the man he was before and he, although totally dependant on the people around him appears confident and content. I will be eternally grateful for what they have done and nothing I can say or do can praise them strongly enough. The food's fabulous too!
Since my mother has been a resident there has been a very positive all-round improvement under the current management which has transformed the home. My mother has never been the most social person but since lockdown has frequently appeared on their Facebook page involved in numerous activities that she has not likened to previously. I have nothing but praise for the care and dedication shown by the staff and would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone in doubt.
Our Mother is resident at the home. The care provided by Calderdale Retreat nursing home has been second to none, both before and during the covid saga. What a fab team. Keep up the great work, you are very much appreciated.
