View Full Details of The Porterbrook Care HomeMy Dad arrived at Porterbrook in November 2022 and slotted in very easily as he had mixed dementia and I honestly think he thought he was in a hotel with us. Staff have been so understanding and made Dad feel comfortable and at home, he always had a smile when we'd visit, and though he couldn't participate much in the many activities, he loved listening to the buzz in the lounge and he absolutely enjoyed the food. Before he recently went to hospital, one of the last things he was known to do himself was finish a bowl of their pudding ! Thankyou to the whole team for providing this experience for Dad xx
My mother lived at Porterbrook for the final two years of her life. She was 94 and had full mental capacity but was confined to a wheelchair and needed 24 hour help and care. The staff at Porterbrook were kind and gentle in caring for her, respectful of her expressed wishes and appreciative of her cheerful demeanour and humour. In the last few weeks of her life when she requested not to be admitted to hospital, she received exemplary care. The family were also welcomed and cared for at all times of day and night when Porterbrook became our home-from-home. Porterbrook has a team of exceptionally committed staff. During the worst snow of winter I was with my mother overnight and many of the care team walked for up to two hours to get to work, arriving like snowmen emerging from the dark, and embarking on their day with the same friendly compassionate efficiency as always. Over the time my mother lived at Porterbrook the staff became friends and I will miss them very much.
The staff at The Porterbrook Care Home are outstanding. At all levels from the receptionist, seniors and maintenance guys - their concern is for the well-being of the residents. Everyone goes above and beyond to support not just the physical but emotional needs of the residents. The facilities are excellent and feel more like a hotel than a care home. The hair and nail salon staff are wonderful and make sure the residents look their best. Activities staff try to keep people engaged and provide a variety of activities.
I just wanted to say how much I have appreciated the care, thoughtfulness and help from all the staff in helping my mum make the transition to becoming a permanent resident. All the staff I have come to know have been exceptionally helpful and kind.
I have been very pleasantly surprised at how good my experience has been at The Porterbrook Care Home. Each and every one of the staff is first-class, friendly, obliging and goes out of their way to help. The facilities are excellent, my hair is washed and blow-dried on a weekly basis, I have had a manicure and a pedicure. I use the quiet room to enjoy a good read and at other times socialise with other residents. My room is kept spotlessly clean too!
I decided to come into Porterbrook because I was lonely and I needed someone to look after me. I have been made so welcome and I feel part of a family. I no longer feel isolated. I am part of this family and I have peace of mind.
My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago and her 3 week respite stay at Porterbrook Care Home was the first time that she had been away from home and from me. I was anxious and concerned how she would react to a period in a care home, I need not have worried. After a couple of days, she had settled in happily. The standard of care which she received from all the staff was excellent and I shall have no qualms in arranging further respite at Porterbrook, as my wife's condition progresses.
My husband has been in The Porterbrook Care Home for three years and over that time, particularly with the change in management soon after he went in, there has been a great improvement in all aspects of the home. He is, by no means, an easy patient but the care given to him is very good with gentle and genuinely loving carers who work so hard and whom I have never heard complain, in spite of long hours and caring for this, at times, difficult patient. I am full of admiration for their devotion. The one time when I was not happy, the situation was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the manager. I find it incredibly hard not to be able to care for my husband myself, but I too have received care and support from the staff and I am sure that one senior carer, in particular, has saved me from a complete breakdown on more than one occasion. The atmosphere in the home is always cheery when one arrives and I have never felt unwelcome, quite the contrary.
One to avoid. Dad was a resident Mar 2017 to Apr 2019 and from early 2022. When he was a resident the 1st time far higher staff-to-resident ratio, lots more activities for the residents and regular trips out and about. Some pleasant staff, but the home is clearly understaffed and struggling, even asked to supply toiletries and incontinence pads. Reassurances were given that Dad would be checked regularly to ensure that he wasn’t left with a full pad, however, the family repeatedly found him sitting in his room soaking wet. Often he looked dishevelled, unshaven and with food on his clothes or not his own clothes. Moved Dad end of Oct 2023 and despite repeated emails to the manager and Head Office we are yet to receive a refund for overpaid fees. Head Office replied stating the following ‘Sorry for your loss and condolences to you and your family’ and requesting a copy of the death certificate. Clueless! Classic Corporate Care, is more interested in profit margins than looking after its residents.
Everyone working here is very accomodating. The place is tidy and the atmosphere is very friendly.
Very friendly helpful staff. Really polite and interested in the residents. The home is clean, comfortable and fresh.
This care home found us, from the initial enquiry phone call where I heard enthusiasm, love and help in plenty. Every single member of staff appears happy to be doing their job in caring amazingly for my brother and his wife. Nothing is too much trouble for them or their relatives. The food, care and activities are excellent. Thank you Porterbrook Care Home I cannot recommend you highly enough.
All staff are very friendly, kind and caring. All seem well informed about my friend and can answer questions easily. Food is plentiful and generally of good quality. Difficulties with TV in room and control (missing). Some recent issues with crockery and cutlery are being addressed, I believe. Not sure if my friend is offered the opportunity to access the full range of facilities (e.g. cinema).
The Porterbrook Care Home is an exemplary haven for my husband. As a visitor, you are always met with a warm welcome. The facilities are equal to a boutique hotel due to imaginative decor, piano, coffee bar and hair salon which provides a good visit twice weekly. The ensuite and communal areas are meticulously clean thanks to the wonderful head housekeeper. All staff are caring, compassionate and genuinely interested in their residents. Chefs make delicious meals, pies, pastries and birthday cakes wonderful. Activities are high on the agenda to socialise. Would not hesitate to recommend it.
I hold The Porterbrook Care Home as a very high-quality residential home that goes above and beyond to ensure residents are cared for, engaged and happy. The facilities including the dining room, quiet lounge and cinema room are all immaculate and give residents lovely areas to relax and socialise with one another. The staff are constantly checking up on the residents and are extremely creative with the activities/events they complete with residents. I am very happy that my grandmother has moved to The Porterbrook as I believe they can provide her with the best care possible.
I'm unable to visit my mother very often but when I do I am always reassured that my mother is well cared for. All the staff seem very helpful and caring. Unfortunately, my mother is unable to move from her bed so is unable to take advantage of the activities and many of the activities available.
Lovely friendly staff and fantastic care.
My mother-in-law moved in today and has received a wonderful warm reception from all the staff. Significantly every member of staff has introduced themselves by their name, this is such a small but powerful action. I'm sure that my mother-in-law will be extremely well looked after and importantly happy here.
Mum's been at The Porterbrook for 1 year now. Today we had a lovely lunch. They really do make an occasion of so many events (today Wimbledon) and have wonderful activities, with a fabulous coordinator and celebrations and everyone joins in. Mum also gets her hair and nails done weekly, in the lovely salon. ALL staff are really caring and helpful, be it the receptionist, housekeepers, carers, and management. They have gone out their way to make sure Mum has settled in, despite her worsening mobility, health, and memory. The activities lady encourages Mum to join in with the quizzes, events, crafts, etc. Mum has seen various health care professionals, who all visit and the staff follow their care instruction and always contact them if needed. Staff also contact me, with any queries or concerns. Mum loves The Porterbrook and we're so glad we chose it. It was a daunting decision especially us both being nurses, that this was the right one. It is! Thank you everyone at The Porterbrook for making it Mum's home!
Our Dad lived at The Porterbrook Care Home for just over a year before recently passing away. We were so relieved to find a safe, caring environment for him and have been really impressed with the facilities and the activities for the residents. Above all, it has been the caring staff who really made a difference during Dad's stay.
