View Full Details of Leah Lodge Care HomeWe have all been really happy with the care provided at Leah Lodge. My stepdad settled in quickly, and is very fond of the staff, telling us how well they look after him. He has really enjoyed some of the activities, and the activities staff are outstanding. The care is very good and staff are quick to communicate any concerns. He says the food is great, and it's nice to have the cafe area to sit and talk when we visit. It has been a huge relief to know that he is safe and well cared for. I could never have imagined someone so fiercely independent would be happy in a care home, but it has suited him remarkably well.
Management and all the team at Leah Lodge provided our family with exceptional support when we needed it the most. On entering a care home setting for the first time, Dad presented significant challenges to the team and his family and the Leah Lodge team worked with him and the family with great care, sensitivity and compassion. We, the family, our very pleased to be able to recommend Leah Lodge to readers considering placing a loved one in their care - our experience has been a very positive one, in very difficult circumstances.
I moved into Leah Lodge 10 weeks ago; it is now my permanent home. Before I came, I was well supported by the publicity and recruitment staff, who patiently answered my many questions as worked through a life-changing decision. My experience of living here has been very good. All staff know me and address me by name at all times. Help is available at the touch of a button, and it is given cheerfully and willingly; there is an excellent balance between any support needed and respect and encouragement of my independence. The activities coordinators work hard to maintain our social skills through varied and imaginative projects, including frequent opportunities to go further afield in the minibus. As for the comfort and maintenance of good health, menus are varied and interesting, beds are wide and comfortable, rooms are well furnished, and there is ready access to the doctor who visits the home every week.
Leah Lodge is a well run, caring place for people with dementia. The staff are professional but kind and friendly with the residents, who are given plenty of agency over decisions. It fosters a good environment, with plenty of activities and things for the residents to do. This is the fourth home that my mother has been in (this happened more by accident that because we're difficult!), so I have a good understanding of how care homes work, and it is definitely the best, from the settling in process to the day-to-day lived experience.
My uncle has been here for 5 years and is safe and content. He has excellent care and the staff are very caring and attentive. My mother (his sister) and I visit regularly and are always happy with his care.
I always thought putting a relative in a care home was the last thing I should do until a friend became a permanent resident in Leigh Lodge. It's such a happy and caring home, somewhere I'd enjoy living myself. The carers know all the friends and relatives of the residents. The relatives know each other's mothers and fathers. It's like being part of a large family. The relatives meetings a time to connect over a glass and nibbles. The pizza, curry and fish and chip nights for the relatives an opportunity to chat with each other and the staff. The managers, senior carers and the lady who runs the activities. My dogs are always welcome and enjoyed by the residents. The staff have an extremely difficult job, which they manage calmly. There is often much laughter and fun, dancing and singing. Leigh Lodge is always thinking up new ways to improve the lives of their residents. It's exciting to be involved in their plans and to be asked for our ideas.
Leah Lodge provide a high level of personal care. All staff from housekeeping to reception are helpful and friendly. My father is happy there, enjoying the food and company of the other residents and staff who have taken time to get to know him and will always have a chat.
Leah Lodge was the obvious choice for Mum when she needed residential care as my mother-in-law had lived there previously for several years and been very well looked after. Mum has been there for over 18 months now and is very happy. She settled in straight away so the transition was much easier than I expected. I think it is due to the warmth and friendliness of all the carers who convey a great deal of compassion and kindness mixed with good humour and fun. Overall it is a very welcoming and friendly place which I believe sets it apart from other homes.
My mother has now been at Leah Lodge for just over 9 months having moved in just before Xmas last year after suffering a stroke. She took quite a few months to settle in but is now happy and doing lots of the activities offered (the activities co-ordinator is exceptional). The food is good with wine offered at meal times. Staffing is also good. The main thing about Leah Lodge is that as soon as you walk in you don't feel like it's a typical care home setting as the reception area and cafe is very welcoming and friendly. The rooms and communal areas are also very personal and comforting. To conclude I feel Mum is safe and well cared for.
My uncle has lived at Leah Lodge for a few years now and they are fantastic. He is very happy and considers it his home. It is a blessing to know he is cared for and the staff are great! The meals are nice and the social aspect provided has really kept him more with it than I've seen at other homes. I am so grateful for all that they have done.
My mum has been in Leah Lodge since mid-December last year. We chose the home because it was near to my sister and we liked the cosy atmosphere. It took my Mum a little time to settle in because it was such a big change from her previous life but she has adapted well and appreciates many things about the home, including the enthusiastic activities team; many kind staff; and the nice places to sit out in the courtyard, garden and lobby/cafe area. She gets many visitors and we appreciate the ability to make ourselves tea and coffee in the cafe. There are often parties and events - my sister and husband accompanied my mother to the summer fete up the road at the sister home. I attended the Wimbledon strawberries and cream party and have been out with her and other residents on several trips to the pub! We also appreciated the kindness and flexibility shown by a staff member who recently ensured she did not have a long wait for hospital transport home by going to collect her on the local bus.
September has been a trying time for my father-in-law, he fell in the night presumably on the way to his bathroom, and cracked two of his ribs. His pain and physical discomfort were compounded by his dementia and very poor memory. However, the response from Leah Lodge was excellent. They called an ambulance promptly and accompanied him to the hospital, where I joined him. The staff were clearly concerned about his health and were proactive in getting him the pain relief he needed while recovering in the home. They carried out a thorough investigation and made a number of recommendations, which will be implemented to help prevent a similar fall from happening again. Their communication with us was prompt, clear and comprehensive and I would just like to say a big thank you to all who have been involved. My father-in-law has made a speedy recovery, which is remarkable as he is 94 years old, and I believe that this is primarily due to the high quality of care that he has received.
Our uncle has been at Leah Lodge for 5 years and from the moment he went there he has been very happy. The staff are so friendly and kind and he receives fantastic care and support. All the family are made to feel welcome and we could not have wished for a happier place for him to spend these years. He has absolutely thrived there, sometimes he likes to join in the activities and sometimes he doesn't and this is always respected. The accommodation and food are excellent and we are continuously updated on activities, and special events, and always get feedback after routine visits by the doctor, we feel very informed on his health and wellbeing. We have absolute peace of mind he is being well cared for at Leah Lodge and we appreciate so much that every member of staff goes the extra mile to make his life happy.
Leah Lodge is a small residential and dementia care facility located on a quiet street on the Blackheath and Lewisham border in South East London with easy access and parking for visitors and hospital transport. The care is exemplary. The food is excellent and drinks and snacks are available 24/7. Residents and their visitors use elegant cafe facilities and exquisite garden areas which are beautifully maintained. Housekeeping teams ensure the highest standards of hygiene, a professional laundry service and impeccable levels of cleanliness. Most important for residents at Leah Lodge and their families are the staff. A kind, professional team at every level, with many years of collective experience of elderly care, tend to our precious family members and give us, as far as possible, peace of mind. Regular social activities engage and stimulate. The loss of independence, so painful for our loved ones, can be a safe, joyful, sociable and loving stage of their lives here at Leah Lodge.
Really nice caring home with a lovely friendly atmosphere. They have done wonders with my mum completely improving her physical and mental health. More like a hotel than a care home and it's right on my doorstep and there are no visiting hours you can visit your loved one whenever you want.
My dad stayed in Leah Lodge between January and April 2024 for respite care following a stroke. The staff here are wonderful and kind, it was an ideal place for his recovery. Dad's consultant said recently that she thinks the excellent respite care at Leah Lodge made a huge difference to his recovery and the outcome we have now. Having Dad so well looked after and so local to us made a huge difference to our whole family. We were always welcomed at Leah Lodge with huge kindness and warmth and I felt confident that he was being cared for very well.
Mum has been at Leah Lodge for nearly 2 years now, and overall we are very pleased that we chose Leah Lodge (from the 9 care homes we looked at) - it is a small building, which has its pluses and minuses, but we love the homely and friendly feel it has, partly as a result of it's size. Mum's dementia has, sadly, been steadily getting worse and, in the last few weeks, we have had to deal with particularly difficult changes involving loss of mobility, eating problems and extra health issues, all of which the excellent staff have handled with great care and professionalism. The superb care she has received has made it so much better to bear as a family and, more importantly, Mum remains happy and content for most of the time - the fact that Mum has been able to stay at Leah throughout her challenging journey is a big positive for us. Also, the communication with the family from the senior care staff, and their attentiveness to Mum's changing condition, has been excellent.
We love Leah Lodge! It's like being part of a big extended family. From the moment, they 'thought outside the box' and took our Dad in with just two hours notice, with a member of staff coming to Queen Elizabeth to do his assessment to bringing Dad back to life and then helping us through our mum's sudden death, they have been nothing short of wonderful. We go in every day to see our Dad and everyone is always there, ready with a smile and a chat. The staff and carers are so human and care deeply about the residents and their families. The lodge itself is cosy, clean and calm and the gardens and courtyards are really beautiful. Plus there's always coffee, homemade sausage rolls and fairy cakes in the cafe for residents and visitors. Leah Lodge will have a special place in our hearts forever.
Group meeting with senior management regarding dissatisfaction of customer service on many issues. Meeting was managed appallingly, staff were aggressive and bullying ethos towards relatives. Several attendees cried or walked out. Attendees interrupted each other and managers berated relatives for raising their voices when upset. No care or concern shown towards relatives. Relatives told that if they were not happy, "Then why is your loved one still living here?" Management didn't listen to relatives and were unsympathetic and did not seem willing to change. Residents viewed as 'profit' not human beings.
I was very well looked after by all of the staff, everyone was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There was lots of activities and the outdoor space is really lovely. I’m looking forward to my next ‘holiday’ at Leah Lodge
