View Full Details of Southlands Retirement ApartmentsMy mum has recently moved into Southlands- a huge move having lived in her previous home for 50 years. The sales manager was extremely helpful, patient and understanding, reducing our stress and going out of her way to provide information and help keep our purchase progressing. My mum has been made very welcome by both staff and fellow residents and for the first time in many months I feel she is safe and well cared for. Southlands has a busy programme of activities and it has been great to see my mum getting involved and keeping busy.
Southlands is not only a beautiful residence but the staff are very caring and friendly. The meals are kept in a beautiful state and my father is very happy here. He has lived here for nearly three years and loves it. The best decision I have ever made was to move my parents from another location (where they lived for 70 years) to Southlands to be closer to me and the grandchildren.
My Dad, after much deliberation, decided that it would be a good idea to do a trial stay at Southlands. He's a widower and has a few health and mobility issues and the house was becoming too big (and cold) for him. On coming home day, he was down in the dumps and quickly made the decision to make the permanent move. The apartment is so tastefully decorated and furnished and as warm as he chooses it to be without having to worry about expensive bills. There are always people around if he wants to socialise, he has 3 meals a day prepared for him and he feels safe and secure knowing that there is a team of care staff on site is a real plus point for my sister and me. Everyone there is so friendly and caring, so my sister feels so reassured. The manager cannot do enough for us and has made the whole process so stress-free. Such an asset to Westward Care - we'll never forget how she made one of the most stressful periods in our lives, so much easier for us.
A telephone/intercom would have been helpful. The staff were extremely courteous and polite. The lighting could have been improved. The standard of food was variable. Maintenance was good and repairs were dealt with properly.
I have stayed at Southlands for two weeks of respite care following knee replacement surgery. My father had been a resident here for seven years before passing, and I had no hesitation in choosing to return for my recuperation. I was welcomed 'back home' like an old friend. My respite apartment was a bright, spotless, airy environment with a wet room-style bathroom. Perfect! I was afforded total privacy, but care was 'on hand', and when requested, I was helped swiftly, with respect, and always with a cheery smile. I was able to join in as many activities as I felt able to and was always welcomed warmly by old friends and newer residents alike. The atmosphere of 'family' is what makes Southlands extremely special. Care was on hand when required, and my daily progress was encouraged and gently supported. I shall return home mentally and physically much more able to cope on my own, and grateful to Southlands for this amazing start.
I stayed in Southlands after hip surgery for three weeks! I was welcomed warmly by management staff and residents. During my stay, I was treated with dignity and respect, and I shall keep in touch with the friends I made there. I had a comfortable apartment overlooking the garden. I shall certainly consider using this facility again if the need arises.
My mum (87 years old) stayed at Southlands following a hip replacement operation. Although she was apprehensive about not going straight home, Southlands provided her with the help and support she needed after her hospital stay. Mum enjoyed her four weeks at Southlands and made some new friends. Think she will be back to visit.
We had to move out of our apartment so that people could instal wardrobes etc in our bedroom. They required the removal of the beds to another part of the apartment, which meant we could not live in it. Southlands made the guest suite available to us for a week, which was extremely accommodating; otherwise, we would have had to find temporary accommodation elsewhere.
I was redirected to Southlands as another home had Covid. After being a week at Southlands, they contracted Covid, therefore; I had little contact with other residents. At no point did I feel unsafe. It was handled well. I cannot stress enough how friendly and helpful every member of staff was from the managers to the cleaners. The apartments are outstanding in comfort and attractiveness. It was a good experience, and I would go there again should the need arise.
I moved here to be nearer to my son, wife and grandson. I am thrilled with the outcome. Being at Southlands allows me to be as independent as possible with help, care and food available if I need it. The staff really do care and are excellent. The residents have welcomed me warmly, and very quickly, I felt like one of this happy family. Situated on the edge of the park, close to the big clock and just a walk or bus ride to Street Lane are such a bonus.
Very impressed with the facility, and the guest suite is very wonderful.
Very lovely convalescence stay. Southlands looked after Mum very well.
Quality of care and friendliness cannot be faulted. They had an answer for every problem. Accommodation is tastefully and excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. The offer of a trial stay was most helpful. That my sister decided against moving in, in no way reflects on what Southlands has to offer.
Southlands has supported my mum through a very difficult move to live near me. Although Mum is still very able, we wanted her to move to her own retirement apartment that allows her to love her life but has all the support if and when needed. The staff are all amazing and are kind and caring. It feels like a small family. Thank you for looking after my mum.
Went into Southlands for a months respite. Everyone was very kind and helpful.
From my first contact with Southlands, I found all the staff incredibly caring and sympathetic to our requirements. All members of the team could not help enough, and they were all genuine in their approach and highly professional in their work. The facility was excellent and of a high standard and very much had a "lovely" feel. This was key for the respite my parents had been booked in for. Thank you to all!
The care given to my father and stepmother for respite and end of life was excellent. We really could not have asked for more. Nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff were so very helpful and kind.
In May/June 2021 my father and stepmother had respite care at Southlands. Initially, my father was in the hospital, and my stepmother, who had dementia, moved into a Southlands apartment with care to await the arrival of my father from the hospital. Although initially unsettled, she responded to the excellent support provided by the team at Southlands and enjoyed meeting other residents and joining in activities. My father's health deteriorated in hospital and eventually, he was discharged bedbound for end of life care at Southlands. He joined my stepmother in the apartment but sadly died 6-days later. The time spent together at Southlands was crucial to giving my father the peace of mind he needed in his last few days and gave my stepmother the time with him that she so much wanted and needed. The care and support given to both of them at Southlands were excellent. I and the rest of our family will be forever grateful for the time they had at Southlands at what was a difficult time for us all.
Mum is well looked after. Laundry is exceptionally good. Her apartment is regularly cleaned. The menu needs a bit more variety, and timings for tea could be a little later. The activities could be more varied, but some of this may be Covid related. It's back to its happy environment and things have settled into a satisfactory routine. Overall, Mum is satisfied with Southlands.
The warm welcome my parents received on arrival in December 2017 has continued with staff unfailingly cheerful and courteous, despite the many challenges presented by Covid. Monthly tests have become the norm, all residents have now received their second vaccination and activities, though necessarily restricted, have continued at a slightly lower level. I will always be grateful to all the staff at Southlands for the way they looked after my mother, who finally succumbed to Parkinson’s, after battling it for 26-years. May I also mention the head office staff who are, in my opinion, an exceptional group of people who, like the staff 'on the ground’ at Southlands, really do care about the welfare of their residents. My father, now aged 91, continues to thrive at Southlands. I think it is very hard to put into words, just what a huge relief it is to know that I can go about my daily life, 100% confident that he is in such good hands, his health and security prioritised.
