View Full Details of CharterhouseI have been very impressed with all the staff & the car & concern they have shown my husband. Communication with me has been excellent
My wife has been in the dementia section of this care home for nearly one year. She has settled amazingly well due the attention and personal care shown to her by staff. For my part prior to my wife's placement, the St Monica Trust were very supportive and helpful to me personally in talking through my anxieties and concerns. The St Monica Trust reassured me that my wife would be able to maintain a degree of independent living with security and continue to enjoy life. This has brought renewed happiness to us both.
I spent over a week in hospital in December 2024 and moved to Christchurch just before Christmas. I had had a fall which broke my left hip in such a way that an operation was not possible. As a result, I arrived at Charterhouse virtually unable to walk. I came home on Sunday 2nd February able to get around very well on a variety of walkers, feeling very confident although I live alone and very grateful for all the care I received that enabled me to do so. My room was light. Food was adequate and I was able to leave my room early on. Above all the staff were simply wonderful, encouraging, helpful, and kind. All my physical needs were met, including sessions with the physios, which made my progress both easier and more rapid. I loved going downstairs and mingling with people of all ages from the local community. I cannot thank all the staff enough for enabling me to regain enough independence to return home.
I am a resident of another home and had a hernia operation on the 2nd of October. Someone suggested I might be helped to recover by spending a week in Charterhouse, which I did. I was helped there by having a room to myself, by visits from some caring staff, by having meals brought into me etc. What I found difficult was the noise, even with my door shut. Everyone had their own TV, sometimes on very loud with the door open. The TV in the middle of the room was on most of the day and late into the night and at various levels of sound and often with no one watching it. I realised later on I could go back to my room in the other home to have a siesta in the afternoon! The communal TV was usually turned off around 11 pm, however the week I was there a member of staff turned on the TV at around 2.00 am. On another night another staff member turned it on at around 3.00 a.m. I had to get up and say that I was trying to sleep before they turned it off!
Mum moved into Severn South at the Charterhouse Care Home after a spell in hospital. From the moment she arrived, she was treated with dignity and respect. The staff are kind, compassionate and friendly and the standard of care provided is excellent. The home itself is in a beautiful setting with wonderful facilities. She has a large light and airy room with lots of storage space. The place has a lovely atmosphere but what really stands out is the wonderful team of people working there. We are happy to have found such a lovely place where mum feels happy and safe.
Searching for a care home everyone said Charterhouse was the best, we have not been disappointing. Mum has settled in well. Staff and management, first class, approachable, understanding, helpful. Food is exceptional and tee and coffee is always available. Activities are really good where mum has attended. My only concern is sometimes activities or venues can be cancelled or moved with no notice causing disappointment. That aside I am so happy how well mum has settled in and how welcoming all the staff, from the front reception to the nurses, dinner ladies, carers have received her. So much better than I could ever have hoped for. Thank you.
The care my mother receives is excellent. The staff are always welcoming and attentive. We are very pleased with the efforts made to engage my mother with social opportunities and outings. Medical attention is also excellent. My mother seems to enjoy the food and has put on weight! We are grateful with 'alerts' over the need for new clothes and the opportunity to speak to those in charge when we visit.
Mum has been a resident at Charterhouse for almost 6 months and the care she has received has been exemplary. The staff are very friendly and caring and nothing is too much trouble. My Mum is enjoying the first-class facilities and the care she is receiving, she has settled in well all thanks to the manager and her team.
Mum has only been on Severn for a few days. She has been made very welcome. All the staff are very kind and helpful. It's a massive difference in care standards from her previous care home.
From the point of first contact through to the admissions process and on to the on-going care and protection afforded by them to my sister since December 2023, I have found Charterhouse excellent in all aspects. High standards are set and maintained by strong, compassionate and supportive leadership and management and well trained and experienced care teams. Staff in all areas of my sister's care understand the need to respect her environment as her 'home' (as it is for other residents), whilst ensuring that activities and social interactions, so essential for her emotional well-being, are purposeful, enjoyable and, wherever possible, take into account her personality, her past life and preferences. Alongside the provision for my sister, the Charterhouse team also seek to encourage and support relatives, helping them to cope with stressful and distressing situations.
The care staff is excellent and cheerful. Always helpful, amiable, and good to be around. Mealtimes are a little regimented. The food was okay with a reasonable choice of menu. Soup delicious. The room was a little dismal and needed redecorating. Leaving empty picture hooks was depressing.
My mother has dementia and she was welcomed at some short-list to Charterhouse Care Home. Since then I have found the team at St Monica Trust and Charterhouse to be very professional, skillful, and caring toward not only my mother but also our family. At times we have needed guidance and flexibility to help my mother and father settle into their new arrangments and this has always been forthcoming from the care team, the finance team, and the overall leadership of the Trust. I appreciate this humane and holistic approach.
So happy for our mum to come into this home. Staff are so friendly and understand their role in the home. They approach us with who they are and the part they work within the home on Severn (north). This is so comforting to know Mum is safe in her new home. Mum seems happy and relaxed in her fabulous room and enjoys her meals.

So little I can sat about these amazing people. They are so caring. I find them truly lovely caring people. God bless them all.
I have had 4 weeks here with splendid are in every way. My 1st week was on level 3 and 3 weeks on level 2. I had had 2 weeks in hospital with heart, diabetes type 2 and kidney problems due to inflammation on a leg wound. The care at Charterhouse suited my needs perfectly and I am now looking forward to going home. Thank you for all your tender loving care. The family are amazed at how well I was looked after.
My mother-in-law arrived with you last Friday and we have been so impressed with the support and care you have provided. The beautifully furnished environment, kind and patient staff, nourishing food and the positive team have made such a difference in her recovery. Thank you to you all for making her so welcome and safe.
Comfortable, clean, plenty of staff who are well-managed. Nurse in attendance. Food is good. Condition of furniture and decoration excellent. Staff are caring and appear happy with their work.
Lovely place. Understated. Rooms - bins are not being cleaned or emptied. No stimulation. The staff are lovely, not enough interaction with residents. No activities. Waiting times for the toilet are too long. Toilet/bathroom not cleaned.
My father always appears calm and content when I visit. His personal care is well managed with sensitivity. His room is always spotless and tidy. He is encouraged to participate in activities and to help with jobs around the care home.
