View Full Details of Riverside PlaceOur dad was a resident at Riverside Place for 8 months. During his stay we were very happy with the care that he received, and all staff were kind, considerate and responsive to all our requests and to dad's needs. The environment was calm, clean and nicely decorated with a lovely welcoming reception including the bistro care where many activities take place. The entertainment staff were particularly kind including dad in as many activities as he could manage and the hospitality team arranged a lovely room for us to celebrate dad's birthday including a lovely homemade cake. The nursing team were approachable and compassionate to dad's needs. We would highly recommend this nursing home to anyone who is facing the difficult decision of having to find somewhere for their loved one.
Mum has settled in very well. She's hard to please, but often comments that the staff are lovely and any issues, they phone us straight away. A few months into moving in, she celebrated her 90th birthday at the home. The team provided wonderful food and service, at a reasonable cost, and nothing was too much trouble (e.g. bringing balloons and decorations in ahead of time). She will "remember it forever". Day-to-day care seems fantastic, and Mum looks and feels better. She's eating well, taking her medications properly, and taking part in activities. She wasn't doing any of these on her own. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Very happy so far.
Excellent care, friendly staff, good food, and nice environment. My Aunty was well cared for during her 4-week stay in respite care. I was so impressed. We also had a family birthday and utilised their special room for events. It was prepared by a particular staff member who did a brilliant job getting the room ready.
Riverside Place was recommended to me first by my hairdresser. From the beginning, it was very welcoming and felt/appeared more like a hotel than a care home. The carers, catering, and hospitality staff are so kind, caring, and "go the extra mile" to help - unfortunately, like everywhere else, they are understaffed and are not allocated enough time per resident. Luckily, I'm mobile and able to do things for myself but I hoped to get more assistance. Sadly, it's very expensive and I couldn't afford to stay any longer.
My sister has been in Riverside Place since 2023. The care she gets is very good and having nurses on hand is great. The carers are kind and the activities couldn't be better. The food is good and plentiful. The nurses inform us of any medical issues.
Excellent care home. We chose Riverside in July this year when my Mother required Respite care and are back again as she now is in poor health. All staff at the home are responsive, empathetic, and professional. Nothing is too much trouble to arrange. The home itself is clean, and luxurious and caters to all needs. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. I would certainly recommend the home to anyone whether it's for respite, nursing, or residential care.
Excellent facility and care provided. The staff and in particular, the care home manager are all very professional and compassionate. I have peace of mind that my family member is very well looked after in a safe and welcoming environment. The level of support provided by the care home staff to our extended family has also been invaluable.
Do not be fooled by the warm reception on entry and plush surroundings. It's the care and attention to detail that counts via the working staff. Many are excellent but let down by the few who shouldn't be there. The main problem is the lack of communication. For a few the Queen's/BBC English is not their first language. Therefore it is difficult to understand them and often they do not understand your requests. Also being woken up at 5.30 am each morning was a problem. Although informed not to call it did not get through when there was a change of staff. Bad communications again. Also, response to calls is often either non-existent or a great delay (e.g. 30 mins.) Are there enough staff? Overall the care home could be first class but let down by a few. First-class payments with third-class service. If considering Riverside Place, it's okay if the residents are able-bodied and generally care for themselves but be aware of limitations when more help is needed.
The hospitality team prepared a private dining room for us to celebrate Mum's birthday and provided all drinks and a lovely birthday cake. Nothing was too much trouble to make the day go well. Mum really enjoyed her day! Thanks so much to the team for helping to make a memorable occasion for our family.
Take care when placing your relatives. Our mother was placed at Riverside for one week of respite care. The reports of her stay were glowing from the Managers and staff. We were told if she wanted a permanent place there they would accommodate her. We were told how easy she was to care for etc. It has since transpired that they have refused her a place as she is too loud due to her deafness. They knew this from her assessment and we explained that she had lost her hearing aids, and we would be getting replacements. To discriminate against an elderly person in this way is shocking. So long as they sit and are quiet they will be fine! In the words of the Managers at Riverside, 'You have to understand that they could not afford to get any complaints' We retract our previous review of 21 June as it is obvious that they do not mind taking your money and will push you for a good review, but that's where the 'care' ends. We have lodged a formal complaint with Aria.
From the moment we stepped into Riverside, we felt it to be homely and we knew it was the right place for our mum. Initially Mum went for respite care, which has now turned into permanent residency! She feels safe and we are thankful to the staff who are caring for her - it's not just a job for them - they genuinely care. Staff come to find Mum so that she doesn't miss out on the activities whilst respecting her space if she wants to sit quietly in her room. We have seen our mum come to life since being at Riverside, enjoying the company, the activities and the food! Up to this point Mum had lived in a flat and was unable to get out on her own so really enjoys the benefit of being able to walk out into the garden, sitting for hours (weather permitting) in the garden and enjoying the fresh air. Riverside is a safe place for Mum to be and we are thankful to all the team for making this transition for Mum and for us as comfortable as possible.
All members of staff at Riverside put the care into caring. From walking through the entrance doors until you leave there is a warm, homely environment. This gives me peace of mind that my mother is 'at home' in her new home.
My husband was transferred to Riverside Place from hospital for palliative care. The decision was taken out of my hands as my husband needs 24-hour care, I was apprehensive, however, I now know that I should not have worried. Since being in Riverside Place he has been treated with nothing but care and dignity, kindness has been shown to the whole family at a very difficult time for us all. The home is warm and welcoming throughout the building, the staff are all amazing, each and every one of them.
Always a warm welcome from the receptionist. The design of the home makes the place feel just like a home, warm and welcoming. The Bistro area at the entrance is excellent. The dining area looks like an expensive restaurant. Love the photos on the walls. Carers/nurses always seem efficient and caring. The bedrooms are a nice size and kept clean and tidy. Love the Karaoke afternoons. My friend is always cheery and upbeat. Two members of staff in particular are brilliant at keeping everyone happy. Always attentive to people's needs. The staff member's singing is as good as a professional.
I have spent 4 weeks in Riverside Place following a major hip surgery. The chair in my room was much too low. It was changed straight away and with a booster cushion just meeting the height requirement for my condition, I would recommend higher seat chairs to benefit the mostly elderly residents.
This is an excellent nursing home with friendly, professional and caring staff. The nursing staff are first-class, very experienced and available at all hours for whatever might appear. The care staff are also first-class and very dedicated. A special mention to the activities staff who brighten up everybody's day, residents, relatives (and staff)!
Dad has received consistent kindness and great care from the staff here at Riverside. Staff are always stopping off to joke with him and try to make him smile. We love the garden and weather permitting try to take him out in it for a walk. The food is excellent and I often sit with him while he eats his 3 courses.
We recently celebrated my father's 100th birthday at Riverside. The Orangery had been beautifully decorated and a delicious buffet of homemade food was enjoyed by our guests. The hospitality team were extremely helpful, both in preparation and on the day. Dad was able to enjoy this special day in an environment where he felt comfortable and secure.
Selecting a rating for Riverside is difficult because whilst the facilities are excellent and the regular staff very kind and caring the overall management of the home and communication with is appalling. There have been 3 managers in the last 15 months which doesn’t help with continuity. Communication with the home outside of office hours is extremely troublesome, this causes great concern if the resident is unable to use the telephone themselves. When the reception isn’t manned e.g. after 5 pm I have had more than one occasion where I’ve called repeatedly throughout the evening to no avail. This is both upsetting and extremely concerning. Sadly mum passed away almost 4 weeks ago but the communication issue to close and settle her affairs remains. The current manager does not return calls so in desperation I’ve contacted head office only to be told they had not been informed of her passing! If your relative cannot communicate independently this is probably not the right place for them.
We used the private dining room for my dad's 93rd birthday. One member of staff in particular could not be faulted and really looked after us and catered for our various dietary requirements. Everyone enjoyed the meal and was a great way for us to celebrate Dad’s birthday.
