View Full Details of Buchanan CourtThe lifestyle coordinator and the team are extraordinary, their dedication and care for the residents is something of a joy to watch and that is why all the residents are so happy. The chef is also unbelievable, great food. The place is warm, fun and spotless. It was a joy to have Mum there in the holiday season and she was very happy and well cared for.
My father moved into Buchanan Court in November and lives there now. He has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. The staff there, at every level, have made a huge effort to get to know Dad's likes and dislikes, life history and eccentricities. They're kind, thoughtful and caring and the way they manage both his mental and physical needs is very impressive.
This was only the second care home we looked at for my Dad, but as soon as we entered we knew this was home. We began with a five week respite stay in November 2023 and eventually full time dementia care from June 2024 until Dad sadly passed away in November. All the staff guided us through the whole process clearly and kindly. They not only looked after Dad but they cared about us to. We could always talk about any concerns. The communication was superb and I never doubted that Dad was in the right place.
My mother celebrated her 100th birthday this weekend at this care home. She has been a resident there for three and a half years so this birthday was very special. All the staff at the care home made sure it was a real celebration! From the start, they decorated the foyer with lovely balloons and Mum was dressed in the outfit I had got her - plus a tiara and sparkly sash. We were entertained by a lovely singer who was the daughter of one of the relatives of a resident there too. Our family made up a party of eight adults and two very young children and were seated around Mum, with other residents close by. There was much music, laughter, food, drinks and cake for everyone. Mum did manage to wave and clap to the music and loved her party food - also holding her great-grandchildren - no mean feat when they aren't exactly small! I cannot thank the staff enough - well done all of you for making the day special - and Mum got her special card from the King and Queen too.
After a week in hospital, following a fall, my mother was transferred to Buchanan Court to recover. The care was excellent and the team were kind, considerate and looked after her so well. Even though the staff were sometimes under pressure, the care remained good and treated my mother with consideration and respect. The physio/rehab was very supportive and helped her recover well. They also were very helpful when visiting her, happy to help out and answer any questions. My mother is now back home, with the support she needs and having greatly improved during her stay.
I was nervous, at first, when my father moved into Buchanan Court but the manager and her team immediately made me confident that we had made the right choice. The facilities are superb and the staff are amazing, the manager is a first-class home manager and I must also praise a member of staff on the nursing team who looked after my father, she was brilliant!
Excellent care home which provides a caring and safe environment for my mother. Staff are professional and treat my mother with the utmost care and dignity. I would recommend Buchanan Court to anyone looking for a loving, caring home.
The food today is nice, the chicken soup was tasty, today the cod fish was good.
My mother-in-law was very well looked after. She was a very strong character and the staff dealt with her very well. I was able to speak to staff whenever needed. She passed away with dignity.
My mum spent a period of respite care at Buchanan Court. All the staff welcomed her and did all they could to support her and make her stay pleasant. Her room was clean, spacious and well-equipped. Communication with the team was responsive and informative. The care was excellent.
Buchanan has handled the admission of our mother into respite care with compassion, calmness, and professionalism. They seamlessly organised her discharge from the hospital, medication and new GP whilst keeping family members informed.
My husband seems to have settled in well and appears to be happy. The carers work hard and are very helpful and his room is kept very clean and tidy. I would like to see him more involved in activities. Music and singing, which he loves, is very important for Alzheimer's sufferers. It is quite difficult when there are only a couple of girls, involved with activities, across all the floors.
From the outset, he was made to feel very welcome. He is really catered for well, considering her has complex needs. His wishes are well respected, and carers always treat him with dignity. Elton Suite is well run, and one member of staff is really efficient, good-humoured and is always happy to communicate with me regarding his progress and general demeanour. I am happy and relaxed about his care.
My mother has been a resident of Elton Unit since 2019 where her care has been of an extremely high standard. The carers and team leaders are friendly, hardworking and always willing to solve any query that I may have. The recent allocation of key workers for each resident is also an added bonus. My mother's room is clean, warm and welcoming, just as Buchanan Court is in general. Residents have the opportunity to take part in various activities, however, there is a need for more at weekends. The quality of the meals does not reflect the high cost of residing at Buchanan Court, however, a new chef is in the process of being employed. Over the past few years, there have been changes in management which has affected the running of the home and brought about a lack of communication. There has been improvement by the present management, however, it would be wise to attend the relative's video meetings held by the care home manager to give and hear the views of other relatives and to be kept informed of future plans and changes as these are not always communicated to those that do not attend.
The care that my mother currently receives is excellent. The staff are attentive and go beyond the call of duty in ensuring that residents are treated well and are safe and comfortable. With the high turnover of management staff, I feel that relatives are not always being kept in touch with what's happening in the home and we have to keep chasing and asking obvious questions. The fees are very expensive and for that amount would expect an overall excellent service, but getting there.
My mother has been at Buchanan Court for a year and loves it. It is located in a place where she can watch the world go by through her window. It also has a lovely living area with lots of light. The staff are friendly and the food is great. Sometimes the food is too rich for the residents' age and condition. The resident nurse is always available to talk. They really take time to talk to you. I'm happy Mom found this place.
There can be very few care homes which don't bump up against a perfect storm of multiple challenges hitting them at the same time. For Buchanan Court, having gotten through all the issues related to Covid, 2022 was their annus horribilis, a year when, from my perspective, the home almost came off the rails. A combination of ineffective management, poor decision making and low staff morale resulted eventually in Care UK's head office sending in a team in September to sort out the problems and return Buchanan Court to the happy, well-run home that it always used to be. Despite my reflections on 2022, I should make it clear that my wife's care in the dementia unit was always exemplary and in this respect, I am extremely grateful and have no complaints. I also realize that a care home should be judged not only on the effectiveness of its day-to-day operations, but by the way it responds to problems. Under a new manager, it's now getting back on track and is definitely worthy of consideration.
As soon as I walked into the warm, welcoming reception area, it felt homely. The rooms are comfortable, large and clean. Most importantly, the management/ staff on the first floor worked hard to get to know my husband's individual, complex needs; they manage him with kindness, respect and dignity, for which I am truly grateful. They also have been an incredible support to me and my family who visit - you feel so welcome when visiting. All the team I have met working at the home are friendly and helpful. The staff are a credit to Buchanan Court. Placing a loved one in a care home is such a stressful process, and I feel blessed to have found Buchanan Court and am happy to recommend.
The home is always clean and my wife's room is kept very well. All the staff are very helpful if you have problems and look after my wife with great care and patience. Although the staff have changed a lot recently they now seem to be very settled and the new management are doing a good job. I would highly recommend Buchanan Court, as it is a lovely home.
I come and visit. I always find things nice, friendly and clean with no smell. I would love to be able to come when I am old.
