View Full Details of Barchester The Spires Care HomeFood excellent, carers kind and caring, very hospitable.
My Dad and his partner spent a week in respite care at The Spires. The room, facilities, food and staff were all A1. The anticipated respite was achieved and my Dad in particular had a fabulous time enjoying the activities and meeting new people.
The staff on the reception desk are always so friendly, helpful and caring. We have been so pleased with the responsiveness of the nursing staff who have guided us through everything so kindly. The home is spotless, we always comment on how clean Mum's room is and how lovely and tidy the whole home is. Mum has only lived there for five months but says she loves it and doesn't have to worry about anything!
Upon visiting to see my friend's mother (two weeks respite), I found it was a lovely place, friendly and a real pleasure to visit!
This is the fourth time my mother has stayed here for respite care. She has dementia (nine years) but it always happy to spend her time here. The food always looks so appetising, the surroundings so comfortable and accessing the outdoor balcony area is a treat for her. It looks and feels like a five-star hotel with every detail taken care of. The last couple of times when it has been time to go home, she has cried as she has enjoyed it so much. We're always confident that she's comfortable and well cared for during her stays at Barchester The Spires Care Home.
Barchester The Spires Care Home is a wonderful place. The staff are very loving yet professional, highly compassionate and attentive. As a visitor of a resident, they made me feel very welcome and were extremely helpful whenever I needed information or support. The atmosphere in the home is warm and peaceful. Additionally, management as well as staff are both very considerate and accommodating. It feels good to know my friend is being well looked after here. To everyone working at The Spires Care Home: thank you for everything that you do every day!
I enjoyed y respite week very much. The room ad its bathroom were lovely. All the staff were very kind and considerate. Drinks were always available and there were choices for meals. The food and drinks were excellent. I took part in two sessions of exercise which were good, also watched the streamed Sunday service from the cathedral. I watched the Olympics on TV and listened to the radio, also did my own hobby of painting. My husband felt welcome when he came to visit me. The garden is kept very well, I wish it was more used by residents. My husband was very pleased with the care I received, at the end of the week, he knew I had benefitted from my stay. Although I had said that I did not have sugar, no response! No puddings at first.
Great environment for those needing very minimal care. Most carers are lovely. Management very poor and lacking in compassion and overall ethos seems to be more about what they can't do than what they can do. Repeatedly told 'we're not a nursing home, we can't do that' and felt like there was a disclaimer on everything. Dad was only there for 6 weeks and had multiple falls. Injuries were not well cared for and some were ignored and not recorded. Several minor medical matters (which they could not treat) not escalated. When we chased we were promptly told they couldn't meet his needs so he had to move. This was only 5 weeks since their assessment. No discussion or warning. He had been accepted as a permanent resident and we were due to sign the contract in a few days time. Their 'requires improvement' CQC status is in part due to leadership and I agree. With hindsight, Dad should not have been accepted, they could not offer the required level of care, maybe a case of £££££ over care!
We'd like to express our sincere thanks to all the team at The Spires for their care of Mum over her time there. It began during Covid so there were all kinds of restrictions in place, but you enabled us to have good regular contact with her, and in the time since then you could not have been more helpful in the way you looked after her and always made the family feel welcome too. Mum was really contented at The Spires and often told me how pleased she was to be there. The friendliness and cheerfulness of the staff were always obvious and everyone seemed willing to go out of their way to help as much as possible. As the end of Mum's life approached, we were impressed with the care and sensitivity of everyone, and we're so grateful for all the ways in which you made Mum's passing so peaceful and stress-free, both for her and for the family.
Mum only lived at The Spires for a few months until her recent passing but in that time she was looked after so well, we could not fault her care. Staff went above and beyond their duties to keep her happy, safe and as comfortable as possible. For that, we will be eternally grateful.
Mum has spent the last four years of her life at The Spires in Lichfield. Words can not adequately express our thanks and admiration for the staff. They have provided Mum with a safe and caring environment, which became home to her. Nothing was too much trouble for the brilliant staff, who became like family to her. Regular visits were always such a pleasure for the family We were made so welcome and witnessing the dedicated work of all the staff gave us peace of mind that Mum could not have been better cared for. Thank you so much.
Excellent atmosphere and ambiance. The residents are obviously treated with care, dignity and respect, with a smattering of good humour to get through the day!
There are so many staff at The Spires who have been so wonderful in caring for my dad that it would feel disloyal to mention any specific individuals. As a team, they are quite simply magnificent. My family and I can only praise them for the way in which Dad, and all of us, were treated with care, respect and dignity at all times. There is a real sense of community at the Spires and so many inclusive activities for all residents. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Dad's personal care was excellent and all his medication was administered correctly. We would 100% recommend the Spires to anyone looking for a care home and will be forever grateful that Dad was able to spend his final days in such a wonderful environment.
Made welcome from first entering the care home and all paperwork is completed very efficiently by all members of staff for me to volunteer. Staff members spoke very respectfully and kindly to all residents, extremely clean and I felt a general feeling of well-being. All members of staff were very well trained and helpful. Very well-run care home and a sense of community, for all the residents that I met, nice to see so many activities for those who want to join in but residents' health and well are a very important part of daily life.
My mother came to The Spires very reluctantly, after a couple of falls. Staff have been patient, unfailingly kind, observant and won her over! She has made new friends, been able to get back to hobbies, like singing, and is thriving. I have found communication very good. My family and I feel like part of the community. This is what care in old age can and should be like.
Could not thank everyone enough for all they have done for my nan over the last few weeks, she came for respite and hasn’t left since! The care she receives from each individual care worker/catering team/general manager is amazing and they always fulfil her needs. Nan has improved in ways I didn’t think possible since being at The Spires and for the first time in many years I have the nan I grew up knowing back due to everyone who takes care of her! The team are so friendly and welcoming I couldn’t think of a better place for her to stay! Thank you again!
My father is safe and well looked after. It would be great if there were activities for men as the activities on offer seem to be focused on the female residents. As his capacity deteriorates, I'd like to know what happens when he needs extra help with personal hygiene, and dressing, etc.
Mum enjoyed her time at Barchester The Spires Care Home. She enjoyed her room, facilities and food. The staff were caring and attentive. She felt safe. She enjoyed having the company of others. She enjoyed the activities provided to keep her physically and mentally active. The care staff made sure Mum was clean and dressed nicely. Staff administered her medication and kept her safe. Mum was happy in company.
Mum was a resident at Barchester The Spires Care Home from March 2023 - September 2023. From the moment she arrived everyone at the home made her feel welcome. Facilities at the home are great, particularly the Lounge/Cafe area where you can get drinks and cakes when you visit. As Mum was declining the staff were brilliant with their learned advice and care. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone looking for a care home.
Considering Mum didn't want to go, she enjoyed her stay with you, the experience was much more pleasurable than Mum had thought and she learned a lot. If Mum had to go to a home again we would definitely choose The Spires. Thank you, everyone.
