Very pleased that staff at Handley House know our parent, and their needs. The staff are attentive and react well to feedback or suggestions, based on my experience of our parent. Whilst there is currently a transfer between roles due to staff changes, activities are arranged every day morning and afternoon. Perhaps greater encouragement could be given to service users to take part, and a little more variety in activities too. Generally though the activities meet the needs of the service users, and our parent enjoys the trips out that are arranged. Whilst some of the service users have challenging needs to manage, overall, staff ensure that all service users are respected and included, regardless of their situation. It would be great if the garden area, and especially the area around the main reception, were given a little 'love' - plants are there but not maintained.
My father moved into Handley House in August 2023. I was told my father would be on a floor where people were getting forgetful! My father did not have dementia. To start with he had friends but over the last six months, this floor was filled with more and more dementia patients and a lady shouting, 'HELP ME!', night and day. I cannot fault your staff or management (at the home) but for £1558 per week, my father was left in misery. I have moved him to a better care home.
My mum has been at Handley House for several months now, and I can review the home with lots of experience. All of the staff are wonderful, friendly and positive, and go the extra mile to help your loved one feel at home, and are also very welcoming to every visitor. Food is wonderful and activities varied. The management is very approachable if you have any queries.
Absolutely fantastic staff, carers, as a retired nurse, I cannot fault the place. The staff, food, everything.
I would like to specifically commend all the staff who cared for my mother in her last week. Professional care, sympathy and affection were all very much in evidence.
My mother has been a resident at Handley House since August 2020. Throughout her stay, she has been cared for with all the dignity and respect I could have hoped for. Over the last year her overall health had got worse but at no time did her care diminish. When it became obvious that she was fading fast, the staff at Handley House stopped at nothing to keep Mum feeling calm and peaceful. They kept my brother and I fully informed and in her final days, they gave us both a space and time to share Mum's final moments. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Put Dad in for respite care whilst having a hip operation. Took him a couple of days to settle but then loved it, lots to do, great food, staff was brilliant. He was very happy. Shame it's so expensive.
The home is clean and tidy. Staff are very helpful, always there to help and very caring.
I'm very pleased to see how well my friend is being cared for. Despite his condition, he is always clean and tidy and well-dressed. The staff are very friendly and well-informed about his care and condition. It is very reassuring to know he is comfortable.
I find Handley House to be a well-kept, well-run, with excellent staff, good food and very comfortable.
I visited my friend who has hearing and sight loss, before I reached the room she was calling for assistance she lost the call button. She was sat on the wrong side. She has been moved to another floor from where there was higher staffing. I helped to make her comfortable before the personal care took place a little while after.
In view of the number to care for is quite good.
This is for my sister-in-law who has been here since the home opened in 2019. One of the first residents. She is happy here.
My mum is so very well cared for. The staff are always so lovely and caring. She is treated with respect and dignity. The transition from living alone to coming here was so very upsetting for us all but Handley Hall made it so much easier, she has settled in so well. The activities are amazing. Thank you all of Handley House.
My aunt has been very well cared for at Handley House. She had lost the will to live before she went there and was given a new lease of life by the care and stimulation that she was given by the wonderful, caring staff.
I have had the pleasure to visit once a week for the last 9 months and have always had a warm welcome. Since my neighbour has been in Handley House he has enjoyed every aspect of his life. He is communicative, always very presentable and takes part in a majority of activities. It has been a joy to see how he has improved since being at the home. Thank you.
All the staff I have encountered treat my Dad with care, dignity and respect. I love the fact they all know him by name and he loves it. When they show delight in his 'dapper' clothes. So many activities are organised for the residents. My dad especially enjoys the musical ones. It is also nice to see my dad interacting with other residents (he was lovely at home since Mum died). Well done to Handley House, expensive but definitely worth it to see him happy and the peace of mind it gives us as a family.
Mum lived at Handley House for 18 months; as she deteriorated, the wonderful staff increased the care and support they provided for her. In her last month, despite being a residential home, not a nursing home, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure Mum was looked after to the best possible standard. Not only did the staff provide personal care and support for my mum, they also found the time to do the same for me and my family. The staff care passionately about each resident and I can’t thank them enough for what they did for us. Mum loved birds so one of Mum’s regular carers took the time to bring in a canary to lift her spirits when she became less mobile. The staff do a very difficult job very well. I was so grateful that Mum’s last days were with her second family.
Handley House is to be commended for providing such excellent care for my mother. All the staff are kind, efficient, helpful and warm. It is so heartening to see the level of attentiveness provided for all the residents here, and also the relatives. It is comforting to know how well looked after the residents are. On top of this, the food is delicious. I've seldom seen my mum so keen for the next meal! The premises are beautiful and more like a top hotel and always clean and so well maintained. We firmly believe that my mum is in the best care home in the district and are so grateful to the whole team here.
Lovely residential home, clean and very tidy. I don't know if personal care ie, showering, and bathing is part of the service or if extra care is required. My friend has dementia and on occasion has same clothes on for days and her laundry doesn't get taken every day so she puts on dirty clothes at times two. Overall an excellent facility may be a one-to-one assistance person in hygiene.
