View Full Details of Portobello PlaceA very pleasant stay, comfortable at all times. Nothing too much trouble for staff.
If you're looking for a nursing home for a family member then look no further. Portobello is the best. I've visited people in many others. Everyone looks immaculate, they are kept busy and entertained. The meals are restaurant quality. This is not God's waiting room, this is living a very good content life with pride and dignity.
I booked myself in for a lunch which I ate at a table in the bistro with three other residents. The bistro manager and service staff were polite, helpful and easy to talk with. It was Friday and the fish and chips and peas were delicious and beautifully cooked and presented, and the dessert, fruit pavlova, was perfect. The table was laid with a cloth, napkins and flowers, and the whole place beautifully clean. Good conversation made this a perfect and unhurried lunch. Well done!
The staff are very caring and helpful. A very nice come I cannot fault it.
Great care home. My mum was here for 7 weeks respite care, and I was very impressed by the overall care provided. Firstly, the building - this is a very modern purpose-built home, well laid out with separate floors for residents depending on their needs (floor for residents with dementia; those who are more independent; and less independent). This is very well thought through and works well. Secondly, the food - it's very good. Varied and interesting menu, and good quality. Thirdly, the staff - Portobello seems to be able to attract good staff, who make all the difference for residents. Lastly, management - they are on-site, available, responsive, hands-on, and seem to be on top of things. Would also just mention the security - codes to enter, and when visiting my Mum late evening, I would get challenged by staff before they got to know me, which is a good sign in my view. Very good experience overall and would highly recommend.
Private dining. Absolutely fantastic service from the maintenance manager and the head chef for the private dining at such short notice. Very much appreciated. Excellent food and great service. Well done to these two particular members of staff.
My mother, in her nineties, was a resident for over three months. She was very well cared for. Portobello Place is very clean and spacious, with excellent facilities. An extensive programme of activities is available, including several well-being options. The food is of high quality, with daily changing menus offering lots of variety. The staff at all levels were consistently helpful, kind and friendly, attentive and on call 24 hours. My mother was very happy with her care throughout her stay. We would highly recommend.
My dad, who has Alzheimer's, has been at Portobello Place since August having previously been in another care home for a short period of time. The difference in our experience is immeasurable from the previous home. Portobello Place has been amazing right from the start. The team worked quickly to have my dad transferred from the previous home, they listened carefully to our concerns and put a tailored plan in place so we felt comfortable. Dad is not the easiest of people particularly given his condition, but Portobello Place have been nothing but supportive and understanding. They have worked hard to integrate Dad into the home, encouraging him to join in the fantastic array of trips and outings which he is now more readily going along to. We find the staff fantastic, so caring and kind. A big shout out to the member of staff who supports Dad at the weekend, she is just wonderful, it is easy to see how comfortable Dad is with her and also two other members of staff in particular. Thank you all for everything you do.
My father has been at Portobello since January 2021. While our early experiences of the care home were extremely frustrating, we have noticed a significant improvement in the quality of care over the last 2-3 months. My father has reached the end of life stage and following a week in hospital he returned to the home on November 6th. The staff have been wonderful to both my father and us, his daughters. They have listened to our wishes regarding our father's care, as he is not now able to make decisions for himself and we have power of attorney. He and we have been treated with respect, kindness and care. Thank you.
My father has been at Portobello Place for 8 months now; he immediately felt at home right from the start and his overall well-being has improved noticeably during his time here. It ticks so many boxes for him and for us as his family; making new friendships, having regular trips out, along with exercise classes (Tai Chi and Qigong!) which have all helped to give him plenty to look forward to each week. The food is superb at Portobello and I know that this is another highlight of each day for him; we are able to join him for meals when we visit (we just need to let them know a little bit in advance) and is usually a real treat. There is an overall sense that the staff are wanting to do their very best for residents; there is a friendly, patient, and caring atmosphere between residents and staff; this extends throughout the home from caring staff to management. In short, Dad is extremely happy at Portobello; it's an excellent and well-run place and we are really happy that he's there.
Everyone has made my mum feel very welcome and comfortable. I have been made to feel very confident that she has received the best care.
Here for respite care, I have been able to observe whether I would like to return later as a permanent resident and the answer is yes! I have watched and listened to the kindness shown by staff to everyone. The infinite patience and the attention to detail, always going the extra mile to help and support their patients. Thank you everyone! Varied and delicious food too/interesting menu.
This can only be a snapshot rather than a review as I have only spent three weeks here. On arrival I was immediately made to feel welcome, shown to my accommodation, the bistros, lounges and happy areas being picked out. There are plenty of helpful staff to guide if needed and I was given a copy of the weekly calendar with all the daily activities. Between events, there is time to spend in the bistros where there is a supply of good quality food and drinks. Time is passing quickly and I am so pleased that I have become a member of Portabello.
Dad seems to have settled into life at Portobello Place remarkably quickly. My brother and I have both noticed a clear improvement in his well-being after only 3 weeks. He has been warmly welcomed into Portobello, as have we! A highlight of his first week was having Sunday lunch with all his close family. The wonderful member of staff who looked after us so royally and we could see the absolute delight on Dad’s face to have us all there. We all loved the experience so thank you so much to the manager for arranging it. Big shout out to two other members of staff for a delicious lunch and Dad is clearly thriving from having fantastic home-cooked food, not to mention the odd alcoholic drink in the evening!
Great staff and support. Pleasant atmosphere, like a cruise ship, rather than a typical " care home" type. Relaxed feel and kindness. Staff seem to genuinely enjoy their work. Food looks ok and must be hard to cater for sensitive and restricted diets, but may benefit from more "comfort food" options as well as international cuisine. Overall, an excellent experience.
Since my father has been staying at Portobello Place. I can see a great improvement in his health. We looked at a lot of homes and Portobello is one of the best. We are so glad Dad is able to stay here. All the staff without exception are excellent. Food is very good and staff are very friendly. My only grumble is after, 5 pm it's difficult to get into the front door with a wait on occasion.
I have been very happy here and felt very safe. My health has improved tremendously and I feel ready to go back to my flat and cope with life there on my own. Many thanks.
I chose Portobello Place as a potential place of convalescence for my 92-year-old mother following her month-long stay in hospital. My mother immediately decided she wished to become a permanent resident, and it’s easy to see why a decision I heartily endorsed and actioned on her behalf. At every stage of my dealings with the home, I have been impressed with the very high standards of professionalism, care, the individuality of attention, as well as the environment and amenities. Not only has my mother appreciated the warmth of welcome and care as she makes this significant transition from independent living to residential life, but so have I. As her only daughter and living alone myself, I have nobody with whom to share the practical and emotional impacts of this significant change, and I too, have received empathetic and valuable guidance and personal support. This is one leap of literal faith neither of us shall regret. Thank you!
My mum had a lovely couple of weeks being cared for and made many new friends. The place is like a 5 star hotel so doesn’t feel like a care home at all. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms airy and comfortable.
Mum moved to Portobello Place a couple of months ago she has settled in well. The room and all facilities are lovely and the staff are welcoming and inclusive even to me when I visit Mum. It is so lovely, me and the husband think we'll move in when we get too old to live at home.
A very pleasant stay, comfortable at all times. Nothing too much trouble for staff.
