View Full Details of Benson HouseMy Dad came to Benson House for planned short term recovery but ended up staying for a number of months. We can not fault the staff who were incredibly accommodating of his dietary requirements. All staff were without fail always cheerful, willing to spend time with my Dad and do whatever it took to keep him happy. This was from all kinds of staff - the maintenance team, catering, nursing carers and the management and administration. We were so impressed. Whenever we had a query or concern, response was immediate. Benson House is a fantastic care home. They made my Dad' s last months as a comfortable as possible.
Benson House cared for my uncle for 3 years and at times he wasn't always grateful, but I know he was safe and had people around him instead of being home alone. I felt very supported by the staff and especially the carers who cared for Allan throughout his time at Benson House. They followed his wishes and when the time came for my uncle to leave this planet they gave him a dignified death and allowed him to be discharged from hospital and die with the people who he knows and cared for him. With me being overseas and him having no relatives their care and support after he died with paperwork was so helpful. I am so happy we found Benson House, my uncle was happy there. With my heartfelt thanks.
My mum came to Benson House for end-of-life care. All the staff have been excellent, very caring and approachable. The level of care has been tailored each day to my mum's needs. My mum's room is very comfortable and cleaned regularly with accessible bathroom and shower, TV and telephone. There is a weekly activity programme which is very good for interaction between residents. The meals are outstanding, with a good choice of options. The management is very approachable with any concerns and responded quickly to our questions.
Staff at Benson House were very helpful when we required care for my mother at short notice. Mum had an assessment at home within a few days and moved into the home the day after the assessment. Circumstances meant we extended mum's stay at short notice but this was never an issue for the home. We were very happy with the care and attention mum had from staff. Access to the nurses was easy and they always had time to talk and discuss mums progress showing a deep understanding of her needs. The nurses communicated well with mum's GP and hospital clinicians, adjusting medication as required. Unfortunately for mum an out break of covid meant that access to the activities was restricted but she still had chats with the other ladies at mealtimes It was reassuring to have audio in mums room as we were concerned for her, especially at night. Family were always made welcome when visiting. The home was very accommodating when mum continued to visit Benson Day Centre a couple of times a week
Really delighted with the kindness, care and careful attention to individual needs at Benson House. The activities and engagement (even with a reluctant joiner in!) are great and there is a lovely, unstressful atmosphere. Thank you.
The staff were caring, thoughtful and attentive throughout my father-in-law's stay. The management were responsive, listened to concerns and responded quickly to our questions. Very professional care throughout.
You want clothing articles named, I bought eight pairs of trousers for my husband in July/August 2024, three pairs of which I have never seen him wear or in his room, I know he is incontinent. His sports jacket was ruined when it had been washed, most of the shirts and many pairs of trousers now in his room are unnamed and not his. He has had a watch, two pairs of glasses and an electric razor and charger go missing. The glasses and watch had not been labelled. His file of photos and framed pictures seem to have disappeared. I am well aware that in the time my husband has been with you his behaviour has been diabolical and a fair bit of the time, very awkward, not his old self at all, fortunately he seems totally unaware of where he is and doesn't seem distressed about it.
My husband came into Benson House to provide respite care for myself and my family after almost a year of being cared for at home, which had become increasingly stressful for all concerned. All the staff at Benson were friendly, welcoming and accommodating in providing excellent care for my husband and support for each member of the family. We were able to visit at any time, day or night, and were always made to feel that no query was too much for the kind and caring staff. We all found Benson House to be a lovely environment to visit and spend time in, it is clearly well-maintained and comfortable for residents and visitors. The atmosphere was calm and caring upon every visit.
My dad spent his final week at Benson House and we're so grateful for the kindness, care and compassion of the staff. Although he was only there for end-of-life care, the difference they made was immeasurable. Having Dad at Benson House instead of at home allowed us to focus on spending precious time with him, free from the stress of managing his care. The staff were professional yet warm, always going the extra mile to make Dad comfortable and treating him with dignity and respect. Their attentiveness and empathy extended to us as well, offering reassurance, support and a calm presence during such a difficult time. We felt so confident in how Dad was being looked after and the atmosphere of care and compassion they created meant the world to us. Benson House gave us peace of mind and dignity for Dad in his final days and we'll always be deeply thankful for the exceptional team.
The staff are always very friendly and helpful and make every effort to support my husband on a daily basis. They keep me informed of any changes in his health and of any incidents which occur that I should be aware of. All the staff are compassionate and professional when dealing with the residents on the first floor, many of whom have varying stages of dementia. The rooms, both the bedrooms and all the public areas, are kept immaculately clean by a very competent group of cleaners who also show great respect and understanding when interacting with the residents. Overall, the home is very well-run and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking a residential home for a loved one.
Facilities are good but overall communication still requires some improvement. Patient information and welfare stats/updates are very limited. Too often case/key workers do not pass on information to all (management/all with a need to know.) This has been an ongoing issue. Many pass the buck (especially management). Too often I hear "I was not here" so don't know, this is unacceptable.
I cannot fault Benson House in any way. My mum hasn't been as happy and contents as she is now since joining Benson in March 2024. Mum has Alzheimer's and is confined to a wheelchair but she is included in a lot of the activities and has a lot of mental stimulation from these and the general interaction with the nurses and carers. All the staff treat mum with respect and love. It is honestly a joy to visit the home. The welcome I receive is always warm and friendly. I highly recommend Benson House to anyone looking for a loving, warm, caring and friendly home.
My aunt has been a resident since November 2022. Both she and our family are very happy with the way in which she is looked after. It took her a little while to settle and, as one might expect, the change from living independently was significant but she and we believe it was the right thing for her. During our consideration, we were made welcome and all our questions were answered in a straightforward manner. Benson House are pretty good with communication so we are usually kept well-informed. The general difficulties with Covid were well-managed and we were kept up to date with the necessary temporary changes. Aunt is very pleased with the hairdressing service in the well-equipped salon. She is a regular user. During a professional career, I visited a number of care homes and there is no doubt in my mind that this is the best. The only downside is the noise in the garden from the busy A-road but that is a minor detail.
Mum has been at Benson House since May 2023. I am extremely happy with the care and support provided to her. The nurses and carers are very sensitive in ensuring that her dignity and personal preferences are always considered in their care. They consistently provide good individual support and give time, which allows lovely relationships to be formed. The communication is also excellent: I am promptly kept up to date with every aspect of Mum's needs and care. The well-being team are invaluable with the activities and one-to-one sessions too, they really do take care to identify individual's preferences and give the time to them. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, there is a real feel of comfort and calm at Benson House. The food is also of a very high nutritional standard and very appetising. I visited many care homes when choosing and I immediately knew this was the one for us - I highly recommend Benson House.
Mum moved into Benson House in July 2024. Until then, she had lived independently but it had become clear that she needed high-quality, residential, palliative care. Finding a room at Benson House was a godsend! Mum could relax, happy in her garden room, surrounded by kind staff and well nourished with delicious food. All the staff - from nurses to carers, cleaners, catering staff and managers - cared about mum as much as I did. It felt like we were a team with the same goal - mum's well being and comfort. The nurses are truly amazing! With kindness and professionalism, they did their utmost to look after her right to the very end. Integration with other health services (GP and Sue Ryder) was exceptional. I will be forever grateful for how everyone made a very difficult time so much easier for not just mum but me. I miss her greatly but also the team there. So supportive at every stage. This is how end of life care should be. Couldn't recommend more highly.
Each week I escort my friend, who has been a respite resident at Benson House, to revisit the care home and join in the table tennis activity. On arrival, we are always welcomed with a smile by the staff who are friendly and genuinely helpful. The atmosphere at Benson House feels happy, relaxed and inclusive. These visits offer my friend the opportunity to do what he loves as sport has played an important role in his life. Thank you Benson House for your kindness and support.
My mother moved to Benson House in March 2023, she passed away in June 2024. Mum's medical condition was severe and she needed high-quality constant care which she received from the kind, professional carers at Benson House. Her medication was regularly reviewed and adjusted to suit the deteriorating stages of her illness. Her food had to be puréed but was always tasty, colourful and nutritious. The wonderful chef made Mum a beautiful birthday cake for her 90th which you would never have known was puréed by looking at it, she thoroughly enjoyed it. Mum's fluid intake had to be thickened but, again, was never boring and she was given a variety of juice flavours. Mum's weight started to improve after a couple of months and so did her skin. During Mum's final week, it was obvious the end was near, I had at least one call every day from the nursing staff to update me, as I don't live close to the home. I can't fault the care my mum received and would recommend Benson House to anyone.
I first came to Benson House when it had just opened three years ago. I said then if my care needs grew I would not hesitate to come back here. Three years later, I am back at Benson House and as satisfied as before.
Good overall.
My very dear friend has been in Benson House for a year and a half, she is well looked after by all the staff. They always have time for a chat and a little dance with the residents. The cleanliness is excellent, the food is always freshly cooked and there is always a choice. Always freshly cooked cakes for afternoon tea! The staff are very kind and caring to all residents!
