View Full Details of Shoemaker PlaceShoemaker Place a beautiful care home, the staff and care given to the residents is just amazing.
Mum has been resident now for 8 months. Her dementia is such that she struggles to communicate verbally more than a yes or no, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have opinions or emotions. The core caring team have never been anything but fantastic in engaging and communicating with her, maintaining her personal choice at all times and spending 1-1 time with her when she doesn't have capacity to join in the group activities. They have similarly been very welcoming to and caring of my father who is not resident but calls in most days to spend time. The current management team are fantastic. Proactive, visible, engaged, taking and acting on feedback. Communicating. Documenting and reviewing regularly both in monthly meetings for all relatives of residents and private reviews to discuss individual residents needs. Please never leave!! I was always content we chose this home for mum but now I couldn't imagine moving her anywhere else for better care because it's just not possible.
This is my second review and I am giving it now as I have seen vast improvements since a new management team have taken over. The day to day care of my mother is, as before, without fault. The manager has instigated a lot of new ideas, one of which is regular meetings with relatives of the residents where any concerns can be discussed and ironed out which is really beneficial. The only negative I have at the moment concerns the catering which my mother often complains about but there is going to be a tasting session of the meal selection provided and then i will have a better idea of the quality of the food rather than rely on mother's taste as all tastes are different. Today i have a meeting with the manager to discuss my mother's medical needs which is something that has never been offered before and is most welcome so that i know that she is getting the care that she needs. Keep up the great work that you are doing. Thank You.
This month the staff continue to assist my relative to meet all his activities of daily life. My uncle can be challenging to receive care, however the staff always remain calm and professional. The care they give is exceptional and I have full confidence in them. Thank you everyone, welcome to the new manager, well done to activity member for getting my uncle to join in.
This is my mother's 3rd stay at Shoemaker Place. The first 2 were for respite, this time is on a permanent basis. There is now a new management team in place who are very positive and proactive and have already introduced some new practices. As a relative, I feel much more included. All the staff are extremely caring, friendly, and supportive. There was a lovely atmosphere over Christmas with a lot of hard work put in to include residents and relatives. I look forward to seeing all the new practices and ideas put in place.
I spend a lot of time at the home keeping my wife company and find all the staff to be caring, friendly, and efficient. I'm content she's in a good place and well looked after. I'd like to see the garden better tended, we used to enjoy visiting gardens and seeing colourful and attractive planting. This garden has little interest.
My mother has been a resident for the last few months. So far I am impressed by the care and the new management. Mother appears well cared for, secure, well fed, and most importantly happy and content. The activities have been especially helpful with her integration into this caring community.
I originally submitted a review 10 months ago. The home has since had several changed in management which have not been beneficial. I requested a meeting re my mother's care plan with the home and the area management and was told this would be arranged but it never was. I agree with the CQC report re care given and have never had any concerns regarding the care staff. Since the new management team have been in place I have had the care plan meeting with the new deputy manager which was very comprehensive. We also had a recent relatives meeting with senior staff (the last one was 06/03/2024). It was very professional and was very reassuring to listen to the new ideas and plans in relation to concerns and issues. What was even better was that some of these plans have already begun to be put in place and I am confident that these will result in overall improvements to the running of this home and care for our families. I look forward to supporting the new management moving forward.
Two weeks of respite care to overcome the after effects of a fall down the stairs. The management bent over backward to speed up her admission to the care home. Thanks go to all the staff for their friendly, caring, and supportive nature during the stay. Care has been excellent. One consideration that might be improved would be guidance around building. Corridors are very similar and easy to get lost.
Having visited this home and read all of the available reviews we decided to place our mother into Shoemaker Place on 17th April 2024. A CQC visit had taken place on 4/5th April, the report in June rated it as 'Overall Requires Improvement.' Please read the CQC report as nothing has changed! A similar CQC rating has been given to one of their other homes. Mum's care plan was not followed. We had a number of day to day issues which were never really rectified. E.g. not ensuring that incontinence pads were always available in mum's bathroom, unwanted use of male carers delivering personal care, despite all clothes being labelled clothes would go missing, loss of personal effects not investigated, other residents support stockings would be used. Since April there have been continuous changes in management and significant over use of agency staff to the detriment of the facility and its residents. Different managers have consistently promised improvements which never materialised.
This is a lovely facility apparently only opened in 2022, my mother moved in in April this year, she settled quickly, its in her nature. The CQC says it "Needs Improvement, 6/10" June 2024, and having visited virtually everyday we agree entirely. The care staff are generally fine, the Management is not! During the last six months numerous management changes, at both the home and area level resulted in inconsistent communication and care levels. Overuse of agency staff is another issue. No family meetings took place. Mums care plan was compromised; use of male carers for personal care, male incontinence pads used, labelled clothes missing and use of other residents underwear. Sent to hospital in the evening wearing only a cotton nightgown. Mum waited 15mins outside on a trolley on one return from the hospital then had no hand over. Its very difficult to access this home on evenings/weekends, no one responds to the door bell. Regular promised improvements never transpired!
I am sending my gratitude to all the wonderful team at Shoemaker Place. You now care for two very special family members. From the lovely new manager to the happy cleaners, you are all truly wonderful. Thank you very much for all your hard work and support.
This is the second time I have placed my husband in Shoemaker Place for respite care. I find the staff and the care given is excellent. They treat my husband with respect and dignity as he has Dementia and Parkinson's. I would highly recommend Shoemaker Place.
The building is excellent. The staff are so kind and helpful. The teatime trolly looked like a top-end London hotel! On my first visit to Shoemaker Place, I was most impressed by seeing the residents looking so happy and cheerful.
This is truly an amazing place! The whole environment from the cosy rooms, cleanliness, fabulous facilities, wonderful activities, delicious food and, above all, compassionate, caring staff make it somewhere I feel happy knowing my mum is truly looked after. Mum has dementia and was initially upset but from day one, the staff have listened to her needs, been loving and caring and helped her settle into what feels like a big happy family. She is totally in her element, happy and relaxed when she is singing along to one of the many varied, organised events! Thank you to each and every one of you ... you make Shoemaker Place a happy home.
Generally, the care has been excellent. We feel very safe and secure. The staff are very friendly and helpful, while also attending to our needs. The home is very warm, comfortable and clean.
The care, love and attention from the staff at Shoemaker Place is first class. She feels safe and is well looked after. As a family, we are so glad that she is safe. We cannot thank everybody here for all they do for her. Well-fed, good activities and things to do all help. Many thanks.
My dear friend, like a mum to me was one of the first residents. Care and dignity are provided so highly by all staff in all roles. The atmosphere is calm and the surroundings, and furnishings are beautiful. Visitors are always welcomed in a friendly way. The food and snacks are delicious and visitors are invited to share meals if needed. Activities are varied and the local community visits, schools and entertainers, are so nice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any friends or family members. Certainly promising to become one of the best care homes in this local area.
I can't thank the staff at Shoemaker Place Care Home enough for the lengths they went to to accommodate our requirements at very short notice in extremely difficult circumstances. My mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, lives alone with her dog and was recovering from a broken hip, suffered a fire at her bungalow that ended up rendering it uninhabitable for more than four months. I live around 140 miles away, the "can do" attitude and flexible approach displayed in agreeing to accommodate Mum and her dog with levels of care/oversight, tailored and adapted to mere ever-changing circumstances, was invaluable in providing peace of mind in extremely traumatic circumstances. Mum is a private person but in the latter part of her stay, she had started to socialise/get involved in activities and in the end, was sorry to leave, a testament to the heroic efforts of the staff. Highly recommended!
She has been in Shoemaker Place for 12 months, and the care she is receiving is very good. The staff can't do enough for her, and for me when I visit, they are always willing to make me welcome with a nice smile and the offer of a cup of tea. Nothing is too much trouble. Keep the quality care up - always a pleasure to visit her. 10/10.
