My mum-in-law was welcomed by Wharfeside Care Home on palliative care after a brief stay in hospital. All the staff, without exception, were comforting and respectful towards mum and all our family. Their care and understanding throughout her short stay made all the difference to how we spent our final days together and we shall be forever grateful. We were encouraged to visit as often as we needed, nothing was too much trouble and the kettle was always on. The facilities felt more like a lovely hotel, hairdressers, smart cinema room, bar with a view and the rooms were well equipped and peaceful, where we could enjoy some privacy. The communal areas were nicely decorated and spotlessly clean, and all the residents we chatted to were happy and content, it had a real family atmosphere. I would encourage anyone who needs residential care for themselves or a loved one and is anxious as we were, to visit Wharfeside and talk to staff and residents. This is a gem of a place.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the wonderful care you all provided for my uncle, he was a resident with you for 21 months. During his time with you, he called it his home. He loved all the staff, each and every one of you. He thought the food was fantastic and never left anything on his plate. He enjoyed the parties you have throughout the year. Playing dominoes and skittles. I cannot thank you enough for the care respect and compassion you showed towards him and his family during his final days with you.
My cousin has been a very happy resident for 4 years. During the COVID lockdown the staff were amazing - providing the most ingenious ways of keeping up morale- including involving the residents in social media videos. Over the last year as she became more frail the staff have been wonderfully compassionate and caring. My son recently visited with me and was amazed by the comfort and high standard of care as well as stylish surroundings and cleanliness. (Definitely not found everywhere around the country!) I couldn't possibly recommend Wharfeside more highly. It's a superb care home and I'm filled with gratitude.
Just home after a super high tea party at Wharfeside, such a large variety of savouries and salads and cakes, I will not be eating again today. The staff had decorated the dining room with bunting and the tables were laid with pretty cloths and lovely china. Many of the staff had gone into work on their day off (such is their love of the place where they work). All our family are delighted with the care provided. It's such a happy place with lots going on. We are so glad we chose Wharfside, it's so easy to go for a walk by the river or round the market. The food is always a very high standard and always a choice. Thank you to every member of staff for working together to make this a very happy home from home.
We attended a High Tea event with Mum at Wharfeside today on the Poppy floor. The Poppy floor staff had planned the event extremely well. The setting was superb with each resident having the chance to share the event with their family. The atmosphere and food was amazing and a good time was had by all. The staff had all dressed for the occasion making it feel special, some even came in from leave to support the event! We had a really great time as did Mum. Thanks to everyone at Wharfeside for making this such a special occasion.
The staff on poppy floor organised a tea party for residents and their families. It was a fantastic afternoon, with lovely staff who worked very hard making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, especially the residents. A really big thank you to all the staff, carers and catering staff, a really good do.
My mother initially moved into Wharfeside for respite care after a few weeks in hospital. She was quite frail at that time and disoriented, moving into a different home. The staff were very welcoming as were the other residents on her floor. They were also very responsive to my sister and I as we navigated our way around a new place and new ways of doing things. I spent 8 hours a day with Mum for 2 days shortly after she arrived at Wharfeside and so had a good insight into how the home operated. I was invited to join Mum for meals, which surprised but pleased me. The food is good, both quality and choice. Overall I quickly became reassured that Mum was in a good place for her respite care. She was getting stronger and benefitting from the level of care but decided that she did not want to go back to her previous home. Fortunately, a room was available so she is now a permanent resident and is flourishing in the supported environment. This is such a relief to my sister and me.
Lovely atmosphere as always when I visited my Mum at the home today. Strong winds meant a planned garden party had to be cancelled and the kitchen had suffered some structural damage. Despite this adversity, the staff coped amazingly as always and made sure the residents had a lovely buffet inside instead and had a really great singer come to entertain who was brilliant with all the residents. Staff and visitors also enjoyed the show. There is always such warmth from the staff team. I really enjoy spending time with my Mum at Wharfeside. There is a real family feel to the place.
Following a bad fall and a substantial time in hospital my father moved into Wharfeside circa 16 months ago. Firstly the move/transition from hospital was made as simple as possible and my father was made very welcome from day one. This is a purpose-built care home that is second to none in layout and facilities, being able to personalise his ensuite room made the transition a lot easier for my father. Whilst the food is excellent, and cleanliness is always at a high standard the biggest difference we have found in this care home is the staff. From whatever level the staff always find time to engage and encourage residents with a smile on their face.
My father has had a new lease of life since living at Wharfeside. He is fairly independent but does enjoy interacting with the staff.
Wharfeside is a modern and beautifully furnished care home. The staff are amazing - very friendly and caring.
My father came to Wharfeside for three weeks initially, just to try it, but decided to stay permanently. He said the food is excellent, staff are kind and friendly, and the rooms are well designed and finished to a high standard. I echo his thoughts. Staff have been great at diffusing situations when my dad has been confused, and he has settled in well and is more relaxed and less anxious. He is looking forward to spending time pottering in the garden come the spring, where there are areas to plant.
Not much good at reviews, but I really enjoyed today's visit. Everybody appeared to be very happy, including the staff.
From the moment we first contacted Wharfeside to enquire about a respite stay for Mother-in-law whilst we went on holiday, the staff team were, without exception, all especially helpful, friendly and accommodating. A visit to her own home before she went into Wharfeside was conducted in such a kind and caring way, setting her anxieties to rest, and this was followed through by the same member of staff coming outside to meet her in the car as we arrived for the stay. With a reputation for being hard to please, my mother-in-law said after her fortnight stay that the staff, accommodation, food and activities were wonderful and she 'could not fault' anything. Splendid praise indeed! My husband, family and I were always made to feel welcome when we called or visited too. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely place with equally lovely staff.
This was my first stay for respite at Wharfside, having previously stayed at another care setting. The care I received from the excellent staff was so good and kind, even when there was an issue with the call button not working they went the extra mile to ensure I was comfortable. The welcome I received and the facilities were like being in a 5-star hotel.
Whilst away on holiday I had a fall and fractured my pelvis. On my return to the UK, I needed short-term respite care to help with my recovery. I spent 3 weeks at Wharfeside. It was like going away to a posh hotel. All the staff were great and gave me the care and support I needed.
Mum spent a happy 5 years with Anchor Homes. She always mentioned how happy and settled she was, she loved the staff and they enjoyed her stories and sense of humour. She enjoyed the singing entertainment, art activities and games. Her room was always clean and tidy and she said her bed was comfortable and it was good she could personalise the room with her own things around her.
My 96-year-old father came into Wharfeside in February 2023 having previously lived alone since the death of my mother/his wife in 2009. Moving into the home can not have been easy for him but he was made to feel welcome from the outset and his requests were always dealt with. He found the staff to be friendly, accommodating and very helpful. The home is new and well designed with ensuite rooms, wide corridors and pleasant communal areas.
Beautiful place, the staff are always very welcoming etc. If we need to ask anything they tell us what we need to know. In the past we have had problems with the laundry and a lack of communication, however, thankfully this has now improved. A lovely place for my dad to be.
Wharfeside provides exceptional care within a wonderful facility. My aunt always felt at home, she was well looked after, totally at ease, comfortable and secure. Our family could not have wished for more.
