View Full Details of Alston House Care HomeMum moved into Alston House in June 2024 after a hospital stay, as it was no longer safe for her to stay at home. The whole process was so simple and stress-free. The staff were all so kind and respectful to her and made her very comfortable at all times. She was encouraged to join in the many activities available, although she wasn't always keen to do so. When we visited, every member of the staff greeted us like close family and knew exactly who we were and who we'd come to see right from the beginning- it made us feel so reassured that they really cared on a personal level- not just doing their job. The food was always appetising-looking and well presented. The care that Mum and our family received in her final days was amazing (gentle music to ease the horrible silence, an amenity trolley, offer of a room to stay)- so thoughtful and discreet, and her passing was so peaceful. We couldn't recommend Alston House high enough with words. Just a huge "Thank You" for looking after our very precious Mum and wife.
The homemakers are so friendly and I find that whatever mu question, the answer is 99% 'Yes'.
Having been at another care home we moved Dad here and the difference is amazing. The staff respect the residents and the different activities on offer keep the residents busy. They are also on top of medical treatment and if there are any changes they will let the family know. All of the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much effort. They are always quick to help when assistance is needed. The residents all eat together for lunch and supper and the menu on offer is flexible and offers choices for the residents and always looks good and very nutritious. My father has settled in so well and this is all down to all of the staff.
Mum was one of the first residents at Alston House after its opening in early 2023. From the moment she moved in she felt loved and cared for. A hesitant participant in the activities at first, she was gently encouraged to attend and soon enjoyed attending many of them. Sadly Mum isn't with us anymore, but even towards the end of her life, the staff showed such care and compassion, not only to her but to us as a family. We can't thank everyone at Alston House enough for everything you did for Mum.
Mam was a resident at Alston House Care Home for 9 weeks before she sadly passed away. All the staff showed nothing but compassion for Mam and showed empathy. The staff were so friendly both to Mam and her family. I would strongly recommend Alston House.
This is a fantastic home. The home is beautiful, just like a hotel with wonderful facilities, the residents really enjoy the activities and there is always something going on! The gardens are beautiful and really accessible. The menu is varied and Gran really enjoys her mealtimes. The staff are really friendly and really interact with Gran. The home is clean, comfortable and has everything there. What a wonderful team I couldn't praise them enough. Gran is treated with dignity and respect and her choices and preferences are always respected.
As a resident from now on, I consider it unbelievably lucky to enjoy hopefully for the rest of my life the staff and facilities amassed by the site manager. The staff's attitude and kindness are unsurpassed who will make my final days as comfortable and pleasant as could be. Expensive but one gets what one pays for. I just hope that my bank account dies after I do!
Our mum is settling into Alston House very well. She is receiving excellent care by the nurses and the homemakers. She said that she likes the relaxed atmosphere and the organised activities every day. Her favourite time is when she can help with planting in the garden. She loves being outside when the weather is sunny and warm. Our mum also enjoys listening to music, singing and joining in with the music and movement class. Recently we had afternoon tea outside to remember the events of D-Day and the sacrifice made by so many. A singer entertained us with songs to join in with. It was a lovely afternoon.
My mum spent four weeks respite at Alston House Care Home after several weeks in hospital. The care and support she received from all the staff was second to none. They are kind, thoughtful, encouraging and caring and, despite her initial reluctance to spend time in a care home, she had a happy and stimulating stay. There is a good variety of daily activities and my mum enjoyed the pamper afternoons and having her nails done. She also enjoyed the variety of food offered in the restaurant each day. It was nice to be able to pop in and have a coffee with her in the bistro area. Thank you to everyone at Alston House for looking after my mum so well.
These are just a few lines to share my appreciation of the benefits that I feel my wife has made since being a resident at Alston House. Today I popped in to visit her and found her in a knitting - or perhaps I should say a knitting and chatting - group and thoroughly enjoying herself. And generally I notice that her cognitive attitude has improved in leaps and bounds, assisted by the obvious care and attention of the staff at Alston House. She has also mentioned how much she enjoys the breakfast, lunch and dinner, which I understand she shares with her new friend. It's a traumatic time to commit the daily care of a loved one into the hands of someone else, but having seen the way that the staff at Alston House operate, I have full confidence that I have made the right decision.
I visited my mother. The staff and facilities were first class. She was extremely comfortable and happy in the great surroundings. I would highly recommend this facility to people whose loved ones require great care and attention.
My parents joined Alston House not long after it opened and were instantly made to feel so welcome and so cared for. They also felt they had a voice and were listened to when they wanted to discuss anything to do with their care. My mum became quite ill, with limited mobility and struggling to eat. One of the wonderful chefs went to so much trouble to not only puree the food but present it beautifully. Mum sadly died in hospital before Christmas and the staff could not have been more considerate and supportive, to me as much as to my dad. One of the lovely nurses, one of many lovely nursing staff, even offered to help my dad during a hospital visit on her day off. The management at Alston House is also very approachable and helpful. I would highly recommend Alston to anyone who has a much-loved family member who needs daily care, delivered with humour and affection.
My sister is very content and settled having been anxious and troubled. The home has played an instrumental role in this making her daily life enjoyable and safe. Thank you.
My sister had to go into dementia care, and having seen a selection of homes in the area, we knew immediately that Alston House was the one we wanted her to be placed in. Having been shown around by one member of staff, we were delighted by all aspects, from the furnishings, staff, care given, the rooms and the fact that nothing seemed too much trouble to arrange. My sister has settled very well, and we can see a marked improvement in her, although her dementia will always be with her. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas day lunch with her, with first-class meals being served, and again had a family lunch in the private dining room a few days later with her son and granddaughter. Nothing was too much trouble, and we had not seen my sister look so well for many months. Thank you to all the staff who are doing such a magnificent job here at Alston House.
My mother, who has Dementia, had to move care home due to nursing care. She found the move very distressing. The first few days were a challenge for the staff. However, due to very careful and in-depth care, my mother has now settled. The care at Alston House has been exceptional. The staff have taken time to get to know my mother and to find the best way to keep her calm and happy.
From the moment we were shown around by the manager, we knew this was the right place for Mum. All of the staff from the office, to nurses, homemakers, lifestyle and well being coaches and chefs are friendly, caring and approachable. Staff are always available if you need to talk to them. There is a good sense of humour about the place. Mum is happy, feels safe and is joining in with activities and making friends. There are varied activities from Scrabble, knitting, film afternoons, performances by singers and visits from a therapy dog, exotic animals and miniature ponies. There's encouragement but no pressure to join in. There are lots of opportunities for friends and relatives to join in with tea parties and Mum's sister has joined her on several occasions to have lunch together in the dining room. It's easy to visit. Just turn up and sign in at the office. We are kept regularly informed about Mum's well-being. Mum's been able to bring some of her own furniture to make her room feel more personal.
I've visited my friend for a few weeks since she moved in. Today he has invited me for lunch. Being Friday we both had fish, chips, peas, tomato & tarter sauce, followed by a chocolate brownie and ice cream. Also had a white wine spritzer. All perfect, fish and chips was delicious. Staff were helpful minor criticism they were too attentive. Needed to be further away from us eating, as they were talking quite loudly. Apart from that a lovely experience.
My brother and I can't thank the staff enough. They put on a lovely tea party with entertainment for our parents - 70th wedding anniversary. Our parents were overwhelmed by the love and attention they received on their special day. In general, the care and attention at Alston House Care Home is exceptional. Thank you to all the staff, including the chef.
My mum stayed for respite care for five weeks. She was looked after so well, and it was what she needed. The staff were wonderful, and the entertainment manager made sure she kept the residents busy with all the quizzes and games they played on a daily basis.
From the moment I left hospital to begin my respite care here in Alston House, I felt welcomed, relaxed and safe. The level of care I received made my recovery all the better. I would not hesitate in recommending Alston House to anyone requiring a high level of both nursing and physical care in a beautiful relaxing environment. Thank you, everyone.
