View Full Details of Heathlands Care HomeMy mum was transferred to Heathlands a few weeks before she died but the staff and management were brilliant. They were so kind, caring and could not do enough for us. My mum was treated with the utmost dignity and care. They were so patient with us as we have so many siblings. It was kept so clean, plenty of parking, refreshments for visitors too. Nothing we asked was ever too much.
Although my husband was only in Heathlands Care Home for 3 weeks before he died, He was very happy there. All the staff, care nurses, carers, kitchen staff and the management were excellent to name but a few. They were all very sensitive to the needs of the patient and the family during visiting. The doctor seemed to come regularly (Thursdays) I believe was very nice. Plenty of parking and visiting was not tied to certain times although they preferred you not to visit during mealtime.
Generally all quite good, sometimes outstanding, and sometimes not so good. Management has improved recently. This has led to an all-around general improvement in all areas, however, they have lost the best member of the entertainment staff and needs to be replaced.
My Nan is so happy at Heathlands which she now refers to as her home. She has her own room, the team is consistent and Nan adores her keyworker and praises the other staff. She couldn't ask for better care everyone is so friendly, positive and meets Nan's care needs. There is a nurse on Nan's level at all times who meets Nan's medical needs booking her in with the relevant agencies ie audiologist and chiropodist. The home has fantastic choices of food. The activities team is led by a fantastic team leader, all are enthusiastic, caring and lovely making sure Nan has a great day, they do arts/crafts, coffee mornings and garden visits. The nursing home also arranged for the local day nursery to visit and Nan loved interacting with the children. They also have fun days including live singers for all the family to enjoy. There are regular family meetings and posters where you can keep up to date with what's going on. Nan gets her hair done every other week by a hairdresser who comes to the home.
The transfer from hospital to Heathlands was handled very efficiently and professionally. The care was overall good. The food was very good with a good choice. The care of my uncle's clothes was excellent. The home was very clean and the majority of the staff were friendly and caring. My only complaint was when my uncle died I didn't feel the bereavement care for us as a family was very good.
My mum spent her last six months under the care of Heathlands and we were extremely happy with the way she was looked after here. The staff always made time for a chat with her and were always very kind. Family members who visited her also voiced the same opinions about the home and staff. Her room and laundry were always extremely clean and the cleaning/laundry staff members always made time to chat to my mum too. My mum always said that she had made the right decision about moving into this home and she was very happy here.
From the day she entered Heathlands staff went out of their way to make my mum feel welcome. Her bedroom was a good size, and she was able to personalise it with family photos and items to make it more homely. The level of care I witnessed was exceptional. The staff were attentive, and professional, treated my mum with dignity, and put her needs at the centre of every interaction with her. Some of the individual carers are brilliant, exactly the sort of people I wanted to care for Mum. I was welcomed every day as a visitor, and every staff member from the minute I walked into the home greeted me with a smile, and all showed an interest in Mum. I was very impressed with the way in which families are kept up to date. I had remote access to Mum's care plan and was able to see the current state of her wellbeing. Discussions with the nurses were always professional and realistic. I would certainly recommend Heathlands.
I am very pleased with my mum's care. Her health has actually improved since being in hospital! However, she feels the ‘personal touch’ from carers drops a little at weekends when contract staff come in. It is also not ideal that some of her room is used to store boxes of medication materials.
Overall my dad is very well cared for by staff who show him compassion and attend to his needs. My dad enjoys the activities in particular singing. The home offers extra facilities including a hairdresser and foot care.
It's a shame as this nursing home has potential, let down by head office and certain staff as some lazy carers with the amazing decent carers leaving or picking the slack up for the terrible ones. Activities by team poor, they do not adhere to the activity schedule, hoodwinking management. Food indistinguishable as to what meal it is, the cheapest ingredients used. Inadequate changing of residents, smelling, crying out in distress, no regular pattern of changing, it’s just as and when which doesn’t work as carers off on breaks/sat on phones. When meant to lock away items of great value, missing from residents' rooms and nothing done to rectify it. Some carers are horrible and shout at the residents with severe Alzheimer’s and I've seen many go unfed at supper time whilst visiting and had to say they need feeding. Agency nurses do the bulk of nursing and are mostly useless, not adhering to the MAR chart, meds not crushed despite being put by GP. This went on for two years till my dad's death.
Definitely not worth the fees that they charge. Management are rubbish and will not deal with any complaints. Residents not showered regularly and therefore end up with infections that could be avoided. Lots of safeguarding issues. 1-2 Carers that are rough with the residents to the point they have had an investigation but still allowed to work with vulnerable people. Lots of temporary staff, not enough permanent staff. Food is awful. The home has really gone downhill since we first arrived, and I was even told by the social worker that she wouldn't recommend my family member to come back after a hospital stay due to neglect and safeguarding issues. The sad thing is there are about 8 careers that are amazing and very caring and if the whole home was like this and had a decent manager it could be turned around but all the good careers are leaving. I am only talking about one floor of Heathlands but I know there are lots of complaints at the moment.
Excellent care is given to my dad. All the staff are very friendly always ready to help. My dad is happy in this environment as it doesn’t feel too clinical. The rooms are homely and comfortable. The communal spaces are very welcoming.
My wife has been at Heathlands for 1 year. The staff are very caring and friendly, my wife has dementia and her care is very challenging, I am so grateful to all the staff at Heathlands for caring for all of my wife's needs. The food is very good and always on time, which my wife enjoys. The rooms are clean and tidy. I cannot find words to thank the management and staff enough for looking after my wife.
The staff are friendly and approachable. The home is very clean. Visiting times are very flexible. GP attends weekly and hairdresser appointments every other week. The entrainment staff are very enthusiastic and caring about my mum's needs, and that includes all staff.
At the present moment I have no complaints, I marked the food and drink as a three star as Mum has liquidated meals and thicker in drinks. Activities I put as don’t know as my mum can’t really get involved too much.
Do not put your loved one in this home. Some of the staff are lazy and extremely unhelpful. If you complain you get ignored by the staff, the management does not respond to complaints and in some cases as mine and another family in the home, they evict vulnerable elderly people if you make a genuine complaint. No quilt on a 93 year old lady's bed in the middle of December. An untaken tablet found on the bed. Showered once in a month. Pad not changed regularly so every time you go in, your relative is walking around in a smelly pad. Do not pick up on health issues, like water infections. Are always short staffed and the corridors are empty a lot of the time. The lounge was taken away on one side of the building. The room was left open and not watched. Easy target for falls. Food put in front of the resident and then moved. If not eaten, little or no encouragement to eat. Activities are very minimal. They do not treat the residents with dignity and seem to forget they are people. Please rethink before you put your loved ones here.
I am very pleased with the care of my husband. The staff is super knowledgeable and dedicated to the residents. Both the rooms and the food in the house are great, tailored to the needs of residents. I highly recommend looking at this home.
A team of hard-working staff. The caregivers have a professional attitude all round. I have great respect for the wonderful team of nurses and extended care team for all of their efforts to take care of the patients. They have a five-star communication portal to get an understanding of the patients' day, with a daily report and tracking of the patients' activities and their wellbeing. Thank you to the team.
Since my dad has been at the home he is very happy, I love the way the staff treat my dad and look after him, they are always polite and helpful as well as caring towards him. I've been there on a number of different occasions and have found that all the staff are lovely and caring people.
My husband has been at the Heathlands Care Home since December 2021. He has Parkinson’s and Bipolar which has proved a very difficult combination to care for. I have been very pleased with the care my husband has received during this time. He has a good-sized room with basic furniture. The room also has its own toilet and sink. We have been able to put up pictures and curtains and generally make it more homely for him. The staff are helpful, friendly and caring, and they have helped my husband settle well. His general health has improved a lot since he arrived in December. The nursing staff manage my husband's health well, informing me of any medical assessments or needs. My husband enjoys the activities that happen on a daily basis, especially if it is listening to music or armchair exercises. I am able to help my husband with his evening meal in his room and the food is always generous in size and varied. The office staff are very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend Heathlands Care Home.
