View Full Details of Glencairn Care HomeLiving so far away (New Zealand) from my dad, I am so relieved that he is being looked after so well at Glencairn. Thank you to all of the staff for providing the opportunities for the residents and for creating such a homely environment.
My father has been at Glencairn for just over a year now. Glencairn has provided a very homely and caring environment for him throughout this time. This has been a great source of comfort for my sister and me. I can say that the staff at Glencairn have been consistently supportive and considerate and have encouraged my father to participate in events at the home and in particular, excursions which he has clearly enjoyed very much. I really can't praise the staff at Glencairn highly enough.
My mother went into Glencairn for 4 weeks of respite while work was carried out on her flat. She was very unsure about going in and was certain it would not be a very pleasing experience. Instead, she has enjoyed the company, the activities and the food. She confessed she was nervous to go back to living alone and asked to stay longer. She is delighted that this is possible.
I chose to go into Glencairn Care Home for a week of respite following major surgery. I went in believing I would receive the very highest level of care and companionship as I recuperated and I was not disappointed. As a volunteer who had previously dropped into this home, sometimes to paint with residents, sometimes to attend church services, I had observed from a distance how well cared for the residents were. I found myself part of a family who all shared the same high level of care, encouragement, thoughtfulness and friendship from a very highly trained team of staff, in all departments. Rooms were immaculate, food was excellent, presented as an attractive offering to the most reluctant appetite. The care was superb. I have no hesitation in recommending Glencairn to anyone as an excellent, peaceful and caring home from home.
Glencairn is a lovely, welcoming Care Home and oozes happiness and compassion. The building is beautifully presented and my aunt's room caters for her every need and is kept spotless. The staff are a credit to their profession and work hard to maintain a happy and caring environment where the dignity and well-being of residents, is of the utmost importance. The management team are relentless in offering a first-class service to residents and relatives with their hands-on approachable style, ensuring relatives/friends are kept up to date with all issues of care and hospitality. Communication and transparency is excellent through verbal and online meetings and newsletters. Although I am not as regular a visitor as my sisters, my visits endorse the above comments on every occasion.
As a family, we are extremely happy with the quality of care given at Glencairn. My mum has Dementia and after going around many care homes, Glencairn just felt right. The staff are excellent and really get to know the residents and the families who visit. Nothing is too much. The activities and trips out are great, family members can also go along and join in with both. I would definitely recommend Glencairn, where there are high standards and exceptional staff.
It's never an easy decision to place a relative in a care home but when my mum was diagnosed with dementia and my own health situation required a lengthy recovery to find Glencairn was a relief. I can't praise Glencairn too highly, the care given to my mum is excellent. The staff are wonderful and caring in every way. Standards throughout Glencairn are first rate and I couldn't wish for my mum to be in a better environment. The food provided is freshly prepared and of the highest standard, communication from the staff regarding Mum's condition is also to be highlighted as very good. The activities throughout the week for the residents are also excellent be it word games, painting or visiting musicians etc. The high standards throughout from the management and staff are wonderful and welcoming to all. Glencairn is highly recommended.
I last visited my mother at Glencairn in February 2024, with my dad, when I was back for a visit from my home abroad. I was able to see her each day for a week and observed how the home is run, meeting many of the staff, too. My mother has dementia and the empathy she receives from the staff and fellow residents is wonderful to see. I feel reassured that she's being treated well and that the care is tailored to her needs. Her room is tidy, fresh and offers a lovely view towards a particular hill, which is a familiar landmark to my mum, having lived so long under its famous crags. Glencairn is the best place she could be.
Feel Mum who has dementia is in the best possible place for her staff outstandingly good and I feel she is treated with dignity and respect.
My aunt has been a resident at Glencairn for the past 29 months and in that time the care and attention she has received has been, and continues to be, exemplary! From day one, the staff have communicated well with the family and have been proactive in offering solutions to address my aunt's changing needs: all of which have been very successful. One of the many positive aspects is the fact that all staff take the time to engage in conversation with her, which she enjoys immensely! It is of great comfort to the family that our aunt is being so well cared for in Glencairn, which she now calls home!
My father has been a full-time resident of Glencairn since the end of April 2023. Obviously choosing the right care home was a big decision so I researched pretty much every care home in the city with availability and visited the top four. Glencairn stood out because of how flexible and welcoming the manager and her whole team were. On top of that the outings - weekly in winter, sometimes biweekly in summer - are a key part of my father's enjoyment. And the language and culture classes really stimulate him. He's pretty switched on and loves getting his paper every day to keep up with news and do his crosswords. The staff are so helpful and friendly and although I was worried that my dad wouldn't settle, he pretty much loves it. His room is lovely and very peaceful, and he enjoys the afternoon coffees and cake trolley. He says that the food is excellent too. They also welcome family and friends and hold quarterly social events, with live music adding an extra bit of fun.
From day one of my Mum's residency, the staff could not have been more helpful, empathetic, and supportive towards both Mum and myself. Mum, due to her mental health, has had difficulty adjusting to life in a care environment and staff have been patient and tolerant personified, dealing with whatever comes their way with a smile. The quality of accommodation, cleanliness, activities, and catering have been excellent and whenever I have had to ask management for clarification on any matter or support, they have responded quickly and efficiently. Care is expensive and that is unlikely to change and although the cost is high, I feel Glencairn does give good VFM. I have great admiration for how the staff conduct themselves and how they support my Mum and there is nothing of any note I would take issue with. All I would say to the manager and her team is thank you and keep up the great service.
My husband has been a full-time resident since December 2023. This was a huge decision to make and I am so relieved to see how settled he is at Glencairn. All the staff are fantastic and look after him with great care and friendliness and this in turn makes me happy, as it has been a difficult time for all my family. Nothing is too much trouble and I love the way the staff work with him and give him the support and confidence to make his day worthwhile. The staff are so welcoming to me too and always keep me informed of any decisions they have to make on my husband's behalf. They really do care and am glad I made the decision to go to Glencairn.
It is a big thing coming into care, I was quite uptight before coming in, however, I very quickly settled and it has been like home since. The staff are out of this world, they cannot do too much. I feel the people, staff and residents are my friends and are like my big family. I have been on various trips and outings with the care home, these are fantastic. I have been to museums, barge trips and all around Edinburgh for coffee! The leadership sets the tone and flows throughout the home.
My aunt has been three months in Glencairn, she has settled in well, the staff are very friendly, they are very caring to all the residents and their family, nothing is any trouble for them, my sister and I are very happy.
My dad had respite care for a week. This was the first time my family had external help, which was quite difficult for us all. Everyone and everything about Glencairn couldn’t have been any better. Most importantly my dad was happy, relaxed and very well cared for. Mum had a well deserved break and the whole experience was so much better than we expected. So many details are thought of for the residents and when visiting my dad this was evident. So much time was spent with us as a family prior to his stay, which made his visit easier for us as a family. Thank you.
The moment my mum first entered Glencairn she knew she'd feel at home. Arranging Mum's stay beforehand was so straightforward and stress-free and the staff could not have been more kind, helpful or accommodating throughout her stay. Mum was extremely well looked after day and night and did not want for anything. She particularly enjoyed her delicious meals and the flexibility of where she might eat and was also very happy to be involved in the activities organised plus the luxury of having her hair and nails done. Any worries about staying 'in care' disappeared very quickly and Mum is looking forward to her next opportunity to stay! Such a positive experience has given me and my siblings great reassurance.
I feel that my mother is being extremely well cared for. Staff are kind and attentive and quick to deal with any issues arising. Communication with myself and my brother is excellent. My mother mentions various activities that she has enjoyed. The facilities are maintained to a very high standard and the food is excellent.
In entering Glencairn House, I feel, on every occasion, that I am coming into a warm, friendly and inviting home! And my aunt, who has been at Glencairn for over fifteen months and who is partially blind and mainly bedridden, is always treated with the same abundance of kindness, respect and dignity that each and every member of staff shows to all who live and visit there.
My Mum has dementia and moving her into care in September 2021 was probably the hardest decision I have ever made. However, within a very short time, it became apparent that moving her to Glencairn was one of the best decisions. The standards are really first class and she is treated with the utmost respect and care. She is safe, happy, and so well looked after. I visit most days and am constantly impressed by the home and the marvellous staff. I could not wish for better.
