My brother stayed at Cotman House for three weeks in November/December 2024, to recuperate from a full hip replacement. My brother has learning difficulties and autism. Cotman House provided a safe and happy environment for him and he loved all the staff and the many activities provided for residents. Everyone at the home is friendly, helpful and caring, and I also received moral support from key members of staff, which was invaluable. I cannot thank everyone enough. My brother lives locally and it is a great comfort to know that, when the time comes, there will be a lovely place for him to go and live. It is excellent in every respect.
My father initially went to Cotman House for a 3 week respite break, with a view to make this a permanent residency should he feel happy and settled, and the home met his needs. My first impression was of a clean and modern home, spacious, with a great location and stunning views over the seafront. The staff that handled our initial enquiry and application, were very friendly and professional, everything was carefully explained. My positive comments are: The staff are very good, always in good spirits and they communicate well with my father, and ourselves. The home is clean and well organised, the various social spaces mean that there is always somewhere quiet to sit, the views are fantastic, the garden is also a little gem. Activities take place twice a day, and include light chair exercises for physical activity, singing, crafts, games etc, plus there is a dedicated cinema room. There is a cafe on the lower floor, very useful. We feel very involved and welcomed as visitors.
Experience has been excellent. Thank you to two staff members in particular and all staff and carers for all their kindness.
My mother was a resident of Cotman House for a two week convalescent period following a fall at home. The staff of Cotman House prior to her arrival, were extremely helpful, informative and supportive on the telephone, especially one staff member in particular. One arrival, my mum was made to feel very welcome and she settled very quickly and happily into 'Cotman life'. The attending staff were all polite, willing to help and encouraging. The activities provided were appropriate, enjoyable and where necessary, suitably challenging.
I spent two weeks at Cotman House for convalescence care following foot surgery. I cannot speak more highly of my experience from my first contact with Cotman House and throughout the duration of my stay. All the staff were so supportive, caring and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Once my recuperation is complete I look forward to being able to return to Cotman House as a visitor.
My Grandad has recently started to experience some confusion at home and was struggling to complete basic tasks confidently himself, as he's always been a very independent man and takes pride in being capable he was apprehensive about going into a care environment. I am so grateful we were able to find Cotman House as our first impressions were simply amazing, the home is located a short distance from the seafront and benefits from some impressive views, we were given a full tour and any questions were answered immediately, nothing was too much of an ask so we knew this would be the right place for my Grandad. Upon arrival, we were assisted to his room and all the care staff was incredibly helpful and understanding, he settled in quickly and enjoyed spending time with other residents, particularly with the resident ambassador as they often had breakfast together every morning, he thoroughly enjoyed his respite at Cotman House and we cannot recommend it enough.
The staff are excellent - caring and sensitive to one's needs. I have lived here for six years and always received care, and politeness.
In March my mum was in hospital and could no longer live with my husband and myself. I needed to find her somewhere to live. I did some research and a friend's mum was a resident at Cotman House. I was met by a lovely member of staff. I was taken into a room where we could have a private chat about my mum’s needs and my expectations. I was immediately put at ease. She then took me on a small tour of Cotman's house. I got to choose a lovely room for my mum. All the staff are very friendly. The house itself is extremely clean and doesn’t come with the usual smell that sometimes is associated with homes. My mum’s health has improved so much. There are so many activities every day. So you can pick and choose what you want to join in with. There’s no pressure it’s up to the individual. In summary, my mum has put on weight, she’s got her appetite back and her health has greatly improved. She has made new friends and I couldn’t wish for more at this time in her life.
Overall excellent - Cotman House is very well run. All the staff are competent, kind and respectful (we can't believe they are not paid more!).
All the staff have been very friendly, and helpful and always have time to care. The home has always been found clean. The activities have been so helpful for my mother. The experience has given her a new lease of life
Following the recent passing of my mother-in-law I have visited Cotman House several times in an attempt to support their ventures. A small way of showing my appreciation for the high level of assistance and care the staff provided to her during her almost 2 years there. One such venture is the Paws for Coffee. Still in its early days, but each time I've visited I've been impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the staff and residents alike. An hour of interaction with the dogs is always enjoyed by all. The residents often repeat how much they love seeing them because it reminds them of their own pets from the past. Plenty of potential moving forward with new ideas suggested each week. Long may it last.
I was able to move both parents here in a crisis thanks especially to a particular staff member and one parent unfortunately passed away soon after. Although mother had two major life changes at once, she adapted to a totally new way of life thanks to the kind staff, including of course the activities team. The food has been wonderful and she's so grateful to the laundry staff as nothing has been lost! (I had been unable to label items). She's now making friends and any minor problems seem to be ironed out without too many problems. It's great the staff seem to enjoy laughing and chatting to her. Thank you!
My dad has been a resident since January 2024, although he was admitted for respite straight from the hospital, the care and compassion we have received have been second to none. Thank you to all staff and management who dealt with this situation over a very busy Christmas period, with grace and dignity - you made a horrendous situation bearable, and we cannot thank you enough.
This was Mum's 3rd stay at Cotman House (temporary respite care) and she had a wonderful time. To say that she was reticent to go to a care home at all initially is an understatement having spent her entire working life as a social worker arranging care packages for the elderly. I think it speaks volumes about the place therefore that she now looks forward to her stays. The staff from the outset have been friendly and efficient, and Mum's particular request to have a room where she can see the sea has always been met. She has made friends at Cotman and takes part in activities during her stays - it has become a real home from home for her which means that I, as her main carer, can enjoy guilt-free respite time without worrying whether her needs are being met. Communication throughout has also been first-rate. Highly recommended.
My husband chose to stay in respite care as we moved home. Following a year of traumatic poor health he felt uneasy about the impact and chaos of the moving period. I sought a care home in the area with high-quality amenities and quality care. Cotman House was very clear, clean and professional in its delivery. The staff were friendly and courteous and my husband was well cared for.
From arrival at reception, where a very warm welcome awaits, genuine care and effort for the resident to feel at home and understood with dignity, respect and enthusiasm. The management team oversee every aspect of delivering the perfect care setting, ensuring at all times that Cotman House functions with the highest level of care and attention to fine details, it's home from home at possibly the most difficult time for the resident. Cotman House functions with the highest regard for the good and full benefit of their residents. The full team at Cotman House are dedicated and respectful to the resident and their family members. Highly recommended.
I have been a resident at Cotman House for four years. I have found the staff excellent and friendly, they will even go the extra mile to help. I am more than satisfied with all the facilities.
Mum has been making a slow recovery from having pneumonia at the end of last year and in February she had a nasty viral cough. The staff have been wonderful, helping her regain more strength and independence in her room. She’s content with the food. Slowly we’re moving towards spring so hopefully she can improve more with everyone’s support and the weather!
The staff at Cotman House have worked very hard and with great warmth, humour and humanity to care for my mother who has been there for three years. Despite the many additional pressures of the pandemic, they have not only managed to provide basic care but have also organised countless activities which delivered with great joy. Under their care my mother has grown in strength and trust, engaging with others, taking an interest in the outside world again, and putting on weight! The staff have an approach that respects the individual needs and inclinations of the residents whilst also setting boundaries and goals for wellness, which is not always easy to achieve but is always done with a smile. I can't thank them all enough for restoring my mother to me.
