View Full Details of Hawkinge HouseWhenever we visited my brother he was well cared for by cheerful, pleasant staff. Also my husband and I were treated with courtesy by the staff. We know he was safe, warm, well fed and cared for. Prior to going to the care home he lived alone, in a cold home unable to look after himself. He is in the best possible place.
Staff are welcoming and management is visible and aware of family members and needs. Lots of activities if wanted. Food is good and the team work hard to make a hard time easier for residents and families. Constantly being cleaned and tidy.
My father respited in Hawkinge House's short-term care unit for 2 weeks. Whilst he was there the care was excellent, staff were professional and extremely courteous. Dad enjoyed his stay and wanted to stay longer. In addition, it was a really simple process to get him accepted and comfortable.
From the moment we walked into Hawkinge House we felt welcomed. All staff were very caring and helpful. My dad was very well looked after. Staff were very good at letting you know how things were going. Phone calls to let you know how things were going. Phone calls to let you know of any changes. When my dad died, the phone calls were full of sympathy and what to do next. We could not fault the home.
My husband has been in Hawkinge House since April last year. The staff are very friendly and professional most importantly listen to any of your concerns you have regarding your loved one. When my husband moved into Hawkinge House I was apprehensive but was put at ease straight away from the time I went to view Hawkinge House to the time my husband moved in and a year later still feel the same. I am always involved regarding my husband's care and needs and it is so nice to see him happy. I have looked around many nursing homes and Hawkinge House in my opinion is outstanding from the manager to the nursing and care staff.
Mum has been resident in this care home for two years now ( through the pandemic) Apart from the caring frontline staff and their senior staff for a diverse staff team that Mum loves - share has been well cared for and treated as an individual. I think the most influential positive factor for me is that the care home followed the guidelines correctly during the pandemic; essential caregiver status was upheld and monitoring and safety was followed. Making sure that individuals for to see their loved ones (which accounts for more than words can say) and upholds the dignity and values of those with support needs. Hats off to Hawkinge House for respecting this need where the majority of care homes failed miserably and where people suffer. Want to add the new manager has my confidence in reviewing and making positive changes so far!
My mum spent her final months at Hawkinge Care Home, following discharge from hospital. I cannot praise the staff at Hawkinge House highly enough, for the outstanding level of care, kindness and attention they have provided to both my mum and myself, during this time. The Staff at Hawkinge House are professional, empathic, sincere and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. They all gave my mum their undivided attention and fully supported me through what has been an emotionally distressing and challenging time. The level of commitment from the staff, is outstanding. There is always someone on call to assist with anything. The standards are high. The meals varied and exceptional. There are snacks and drinks available all day. The home is spacious, clean and homely, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Residents are encouraged to make their suite into their own home, which we did. I looked at many nursing homes in the area and Hawkinge House stands out from them all!
Lack of basic continuing care, falls way below the standard described and paid for. Many residents continually ignored. Respect and dignity lacking.
Room is big but flooring is bad, needs new carpet. Needs more staff to look after the residents. Staff seem to be okay with residents but need to be more vigilant and aware of what the residents do. They are always friendly. Receptionist is friendly and informative. They do email well to keep family informed. New residents must be aware of personal possession (rings, watches) can go missing. Maybe do not take them in.
Thank you for taking my wife into your care. From day one I had to admit the security, cleanliness and attention my wife was given. For the first 14 days, I was allowed to talk to her every night. Since then I have visited every other day so the rest of the family and others. Though Hawkinge House is 15 miles away I could not wish for a better place for my wife, she has never complained, she is getting lots of TLC and all her family thank you very much for your dedication to your work.
I like my room at PAU (Proactive Assessment Unit) Hawkinge House because it is big and I can move around in my electric chair. I have made friends. I like the gardens. The food is ok. I am looked after. I have my meals when I want. I am listened too. I have support from other people. This is a nice place. I am going shopping with staff and buy what I want, it is better now I have my scooter to get me about a lot more. My room has a fridge so I can put my drinks and snacks in there. I am here to be supported to get me home safely.
There is no doubt that Hawkinge PAU (Proactive Assessment Unit) must surely be one of the best care homes in the country. A bold statement I know, but the level of care I received was amazing from the cleaners to ward managers. They were all extremely helpful and friendly. The care staff is extremely pleasant and the level of care they give is excellent. Their attention to detail is remarkable with all of them getting to know all my preferences from food to care and other quirks very quickly. The unit recruitment program is certainly working well, finding friendly, caring, and competent staff could not have been easy. As an ex-company owner I know how difficult this is to achieve. The training program must be very good to achieve this level of care. So, full marks all round for Hawkinge PAU and all staff and management on PAU. Value for money is one area that I cannot comment on as I was there as an NHS patient.
My mum moved into Hawkinge House in July 2019 suffering with Vascular Dementia. The care my mother received was second to none. Her suite was large and clean and presented a warm homely feel. Staff were fabulous. Always willing to help and often going above the call of duty to cater for my mother's needs. Sadly in early November, my mother's dementia had progressed to end of life stage. Staff at Hawkinge House made my mum comfortable and developed a unique and warm bond with her during her final weeks. I come from a large family (my mother had ten of us) and we were all able to visit Mum at any time of day. I often visited as late as 3am. Mums final days were made comfortable and dignified, her family kept a vigil around Mum's bed and the staff kept us in food and drink and never once got tired of offering whatever assistance was needed. Excellent beyond words.
My husband has received the very highest standard of care and comfort since arriving at Hawkinge House 14 months ago. The staff have done everything to make my husband feel safe and secure at all times. The kindness shown to all of the residents is outstanding, there is always a hand to hold for those who need it. A true home from home.
My mother has lived in Hawkinge House for five years now and is very settled. The staff go to great lengths to keep her interested in life, for example entering one of her poems in a competition. I think the care she receives is outstanding. I like the way the staff know me too and keep me informed.
