View Full Details of West HallVery well maintained, caring staff, excellent facilities and welcoming to visitors and family.
In Oak Lodge, lift has been out of action twice for more than 96 hours within last 10 months, inconveniencing residents and staff. The maintenance contract should have specified 24 emergency cover and availability of all parts within UK. Management failed to keep residents informed of progress. Bedmakers should be retrained to leave 8 inches of top sheet overhang at bed end to allow 4 inches to be tucked below mattress.
My husband spent one week in respite care and as he has communication difficulties and can neither read nor write it is hard to get his true thoughts on his stay. Speaking with him daily on his direct phone line he always seemed very happy, cheerful and extremely positive. There was never a derogatory comment about anything. When I collected him at the end of his week he said he had really enjoyed his holiday and would be happy to come again! From my perspective he had been well cared for in his personal appearance and clothing. Overall very happy.
I initially arranged for a three-week respite at West Hall but extended this twice, staying a total of six weeks. During this time I had an excellent and rewarding experience. The staff were efficient, hard-working and most importantly, very caring. The facility was clean, well-maintained and had a very comfortable feel throughout its numerous rooms. Organised activities were well attended and very interesting. Overall I highly recommend West Hall to anyone who has a need for residential care, not only for respite, but for those people needing full-time care as well.
West Hall is a lovely home. We are always greeted warmly when we arrive. The staff are friendly and helpful and they take great care of my great uncle.
Mam has not been here long, but sees to be settling in well so far. The staff are lovely and have been doing their best to make sure she feels at be and safe in her new home.
I have been visiting a resident at West Hall on a regular basis since April 2024. I have always found he is well cared for so have nothing to say about his care. The building/rooms are very comfortable with all the necessary facilities. The staff are all very helpful and welcoming. I always leave there knowing that my friend is safe and being looked after to a high standard. As to cost I have no knowledge of the level of care home rates so can not deal with the value for money question.
Our dad appears to be very happy here, it's only been a few weeks so he is still settling but isn't distressed at all. The staff are very kind to our Dad but to us all well. We are always offered a drink/food. There are plenty of food options and he is well-fed! His room is spacious, lovely and warm, very clean. He looks well-presented, shaved and smells lovely which is reassuring that he is being well cared for. The staff talk to us every time we visit with updates and concerns - all very reassuring.
Our mum is very happy living at West Hall. She is treated with respect and dignity at all times, and remains an active participant in the activities offered. Despite her declining health her medical needs are well managed and any concerns have been appropriately addressed.
It's not an easy decision to move any parent from their home into residential care. But, having looked at nine homes, there was little doubt that West Hall would meet Mum's needs. Since January 2023, things haven't always been easy - they rarely are when dealing with dementia - but over 20 months we can't fault the care, kindness, compassion and professional qualities of the staff who look after her on a daily basis. Across both Oak and Birch Lodges, the quality of care has been very good. I just wish that carers were rewarded for the job they do because, unlike train drivers, they deserve to be.
My father and I looked at West Hall as a potential location for him to move to. We were shown around by a very experienced lady who knew about the home in great detail. She was very patient taking us around, and answered all my father's questions, as well as my own. Whilst being shown around we were taken to look at a room. There is excellent storage space, and the rooms are well-designed, with even a small fridge. There is a balcony outside, and some people have put up their own flower pots and a little table. My father has been there for almost 6 weeks now, and is gradually settling in. It is hard for him to give up his home, but his wife is moving to join him next week. She has Alzheimer's, and only wants to see him. They will be able to spend their days together and share meals together in a lovely environment. Nothing has been too much trouble for the staff in arranging things for them.
My mother-in-law sadly had to go into care after declining health and we looked at many homes to find the right one. We could not be happier with the care she has received and has thrived since being in their care. Not only has she gained in strength she is also so happy in the home. So much so respite is looking to become more permanent. We cannot fault the team for their commitment to residents and the kindness they show to all.
My friend has settled in very well. The staff are very thoughtful and caring. The room is well-designed. It would have been helpful to know that the residents were expected to provide their own wheelchairs and walking frames.
The facilities are fantastic. The site is beautiful and the staff are amazing, kind, friendly, professional and like family. They couldn't have looked after Mum any better.
Excellent everything.
Thank you to the staff at Oak Lodge for preparing my father for a lunch out with me. He looked very smart in a suit and tie and was even spritzed with cologne. They made him feel very special with a big send off and welcomed him back too. Their care made his day very special. Thank you.
Overall very satisfied. Always staff around if there is a difficulty. Attractive, extensive grounds. Dependant on a relative/visitor to take me to the shop.
Great open light and airy building. Situated in lovey well tended gardens, surrounded by fields. The staff are caring and welcoming and supportive. Very professional. My husband has complicated and progressive issues, they are very sensitive to his needs, and very efficient in helping him. I could not recommend them more highly, they obviously have a very supportive management team.
My husband has received excellent care while at West Hall. Every effort has been made to understand his needs within the 'person-centred care' approach at the home. The focus on entertainment and activities for him has been very helpful. I have great confidence in the team taking care of him.
