View Full Details of Waterside Grange Care HomeThe care my mother received while resident over a period from 2021 till her death in October 24 was good, but we are disappointed and stressed from dealing with management of both Waterside Grange and their Head Office Portland Care. In May 23 my mum was assessed by Continuing Health Care and given funding. Unfortunately, due to our lack of understanding of what the funding covered and because we were not advised by the Care Home we continued to make payments up until Aug 24 when a reassessment was performed and the CHC Nurse made us aware that the funding covered all costs as from May 23. But we were still being invoiced by Portland Care! To date we are still trying to reclaim these funds, but they steadfastly refuse to repay it! Please make sure if you have any form of funding allocated, please make sure you are aware of what it covers as it appears you won't be informed by Waterside.
The staff went above and beyond when dealing with my Mum in her final days. They were compassionate and extremely caring with both Mum and all the family, nothing was too much trouble. Mum had been a resident at Waterside for the past four years, and it was obvious to see she was very much loved by the care and other support staff, who all seemed genuinely upset at her passing. We will be forever grateful to the home for taking such good care of our Mum.
During Mum's 2 years and 7 months in Waterside Grange there have been 2 owners, 4 managers and numerous care staff. The new owners, Portland Care, promised; to improve the physical environment, employ more permanent staff, have regular meetings with family with regular feedback, and not put prices up! Some remedial work was carried out but communal areas and bedrooms still need improvement. The internet has finally been upgraded! The permanent staff are caring but overstretched eg I regularly put in Mum's hearing aid, pour her a glass of water, and change her bedding. Mum struggles with the many different agency staff and they are less likely to get her to take medication/comply with their requests. The prices have increased from £724 to £1100 per week, while some improvements are being made, I don't yet feel Mum gets value for money. Specific issues I have raised over Mum's care have not always been dealt with successfully, however thinking positively a new manager started last week!
My aunty has been looked after by Waterside Lodge for several months now. Whenever we visit - always unannounced- she is clean and well cared for. I work in the NHS and can homes say that this nursing home is outstanding. It is a huge relief to family members that the care is so good and individualised. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff.
My brother has been made very welcome. He is treated with dignity and his needs are catered for. The care provided includes the specific physio exercises he had been prescribed. Staff attitudes are uniformly kind and attentive.
Although mum was challenging when she first arrived in December, the care team on Roche 2 were so patient in helping her to settle in. All the staff are kind, respectful, knowledgeable and professional. They have been amazing at supporting mum and us over the last few months as she continues to deteriorate and have been very proactive to ensure that mum is as comfortable as possible. After 10 years of caring for her at home we are so pleased to have found Riverside House.
My mum stayed in this care home for around six weeks. The staff made her feel very welcome and attended to her needs. As visitors, we were treated with respect and allowed privacy when we called. The room was spacious and clean and perfectly adequate for what she needed.
Mum on the residential floor from December 2022. New business owners from July 2022. Facilities - purpose built, maintenance issues left by previous business owners resulting in heating and plumbing problems, work ongoing. Care/Support - good, but staff shortage impacts on overall care and support given. Recruitment ongoing. Cleanliness - the general level of cleanliness is good. Dignity - Mum is treated with dignity. Food - V poor so far, mainly supplied pre-prepared and reheated. New food from this month, prepared and cooked from fresh on the premises. Staff - staff are excellent, compassionate and caring, nothing is too much trouble. Activities - there is an activities schedule. Management - good, responsive, listen to and deal with concerns, but 3 changes of manager in the last 3 months. Safety/Security - excellent. Rooms - nice, spacious, clean, ensuite, but previous lack of maintenance has caused recent issues which are taking time to resolve. Value - Excellent
Disappointed. If Dad were well enough I would be moving him. We chose Waterside Grange Care Home as it has good reviews, is local and has a 'Good' CQC rating. The first couple of months were good but recently things have gone significantly downhill. 'Treated with Dignity' is a rating. More than a handful of times I have found Dad laid or sitting soaked in urine - bottoms, t-shirt, bed covers and pillows completely saturated - how long he had been left like this I dread to think about. Covered in dried food, chocolate all over his face, hands, clothes and all over the floor - where is the dignity here? Most upsetting has been visiting recently, as well as finding Dad as mentioned above, he's always just laid in bed - no TV on, no radio/CD player. A jug of water/juice but no cup/glass to actually drink from. I raise issues, things improve for a couple of days or weeks then revert back. Dad is non-verbal so I have to speak for him. Not good enough!
We are so pleased that we chose Waterside Grange for Mum's care. She settled in really well and the care that she got was outstanding. Mum was a resident for just over a year until she sadly passed and she loved the carers and other staff - her face lit up when they came to her room while we were there. They showed great care, compassion and support, especially in the last days and it was comforting to us that they had such fondness for her. The staff on the Kirkstall floor where Mum stayed worked very hard and after staying there for a couple of days and nights before Mum passed, we know that their job is not an easy one. They are worth their weight in gold. Thank you to them all.
My father became a resident here in December 2018 after an accident at home. The staff looked after and cared for Dad for 3 1/2 years throughout the pandemic and his gradual deterioration until June this year when he passed away. I cannot thank the team enough for the help and support they gave Dad and myself throughout this difficult time. A great team and be confident your loved ones will receive the care they need.
The care and love shown by the staff at Waterside Grange have been wonderful. Heart warming to see my wife being shown so much attention and love. All the staff, from the phone/reception/care workers/nurses/cleaners, have all been wonderful.
My father has resided at Waterside Grange for over three years. Throughout this time he has received exceptional care from the team of dedicated, professional and caring staff, adapting to his changing needs. The decor, facilities and food are of a very high standard. My father is living very comfortable here and, most importantly of all, he is happy! Thank you to the Waterside family for all that you do to make the lives of so many, so much better.
My wife was transferred from the hospital, near the end of life care. The staff were helpful, compassionate and focused. Good standards of care and hygiene. Agency nurses sometimes lack understanding or willingness to advise.
Waterside never smells when I visit. Although visiting is restricted the receptionist is a very big help, always a smiling face and is very helpful. Lovely to have a friendly face when you walk in - nothing is too much trouble.
I have not had any problem with the care Mum received but the two managers in the office need to have some compassion. My mum was on end of life and they seem to make it very difficult for us to make an appointment and see her. I know about Covid and fully understand the need to keep it from entering the home. But I find their attitude all wrong for a care home. Mum passed away 13/08/2021.
Waterside Grange to date has been very efficient and more than helpful and kind during the whole process of Mum becoming a resident. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we are not able to see Mum as much or as easily as we would like but Waterside Grange have done as much as possible to make sure we keep connected. The staff are lovely and nothing seems too much trouble. It's early days yet but hopefully Mum will settle well and enjoy making new friends and becoming part of the Waterside Grange family.
My mum was transferred to Waterside Grange directly from hospital. It would never have been our family's choice for our family member to live anywhere other than her home. Waterside Grange have been so caring and compassionate towards Mum and our family. I don't think the sense of failure we feel will ever go away, but we all accept that Mum couldn't be in a better place. I can only offer our thanks and gratitude to the wonderful family at Waterside Grange.
My wife has been a resident at Waterside Grange for almost two years. The care and nursing she has received has been of the very highest standard. Every single member of staff carries out their services with great compassion. During the lockdown, the staff have been my wife’s extended family and they give excellent information and updates whenever I telephone them. Since visiting has been established again, it has been a great comfort to see how well my wife is looking, which demonstrates just how well she has been cared for. I am extremely grateful to the staff at Waterside Grange for their dedication and professionalism in looking after my wife. I would not hesitate in recommending the facility to any family looking to choose a care home.
I cannot recommend the staff on Fountains at Waterside Grange highly enough. My mother spent four and a half years on Fountains until she sadly passed away on January 25th. In all that time, Mum received the absolute best of care. This was always done in a professional manner and always with a smile. Nothing was ever too much trouble. It's always been of great comfort to me, that Mum was always treated this way.
