Accepting that caring for Dad at home was no longer tenable has been tough. Following a fall, hospitalisation and a somewhat unhappy period in a nursing home that couldn't cope with Dad's level of dementia, we found Bowes House. Dad fits well in an environment which is geared to residents with various forms and manifestations of dementia. He is well looked after and treated as an individual. Staff are friendly, attentive and patient, treating each resident with respect and kindness. Communication between the home and ourselves has been excellent. All staff contribute to the sense of welcome and homeliness from the moment we walk in. The physical environment is clean and spacious with wide corridors, very nice individual rooms and lovely communal areas for residents and guests to gather in 'non-institutional' settings. Dad has taken part in some of the many and varied organised activities which add to the sense of a safe and stimulating environment for all residents.
My dad spent the past few weeks at Bowes House and has received really good care. I visit regularly and Dad is always cleab, comfortable and content. My dad is bed-bound and I've been impressed by the standard of care, regularly changing his position to avoid any pressure points, checking he has eaten/had a drink throughout the day and of course, all the personal care. All these aspects are carefully monitored throughout the day and night and a checklist has to be signed at set intervals. I would recommend Bowes House.
My sister and myself have both commented on how calmer and more organised Barley unit seems since one member of staff, in particular, has been there. 2-3/12. We've had a few issues which I've taken to management but I've taken the incident from last week straight to this member of staff, who dealt with it there and then, said she would discuss with the team. Today (12/12) she updated me. I feel with this member of staff and another two, in particular, it's the details of care that have improved, all the staff on Barley are great but a few shine. A member of staff now on Meadows is awesome. Dad's face lights up when she comes in to say hello to him, as does Dad's face with another member of staff.
What a wonderful place Bowes House is, we found it after comparing a few different care homes and this is by far the best. The staff are wonderful with my mother-in-law, they have adjusted meals to accommodate her needs and supported her in building friendships. Truly 10/10.
Bowes House was an amazing find. Right from our first discussion and contact with a member of staff it has been impressive. My mum, I think it is fair to say, had a predetermined idea of what the care home might be and she has had a complete change of thinking. She now wishes to stay on after her respite. Bowes House was immediately friendly and welcoming from the staff and all the residents. The layout is fantastic - lots of different areas that residents can go to rather than one big lounge. My mum was instantly included in activities and she has blossomed in their care. Their flexibility to support individuals needs is fantastic and supporting her independence has been at the center of it. Knowing that my mum is in Bowes and is enjoying her later years is so reassuring. One member of staff in particular has been a great contact throughout and is always quick to respond to queries and provide advice and support when requested. Thank you.
My close friend has been at Bowes House over a year now. She was very low when she came in after struggling at home. She has settled in well and made very good progress after feeling very unwell and unable to walk. She loves the friendliness of the home and in particular, the lovely staff who support on a daily basis. She is very happy and highly recommends the home to all her friends.
It was lovely to share lunch with our ex-neighbour in a restaurant-type environment. The lunch was well-presented, hot and wholesome. The staff were attentive and showed sincere care for the resident and his visitors.
I visit my auntie at Bowes House, and I must say with all honesty how wonderful Bowes House Care Home is. From the first point of entry, the team is so pleasant, with smiling faces, so very helpful and professional. An absolute delight! Bowes House itself has a full array of amenities, a beautiful cafeteria section with pastries on offer. The whole vibe of Bowes House is simply outstanding, all the residents seemed so happy and content, and my auntie is just so very happy, it’s so easy to see how the team prioritizes the health and well-being of the residents, Bowes House is immaculately clean and seems active for the residents. The management and team deserve full credit for how organized and well-run Bowes House care home is. Truly amazing.
I have been bringing my client to Bowes House for some time now. It is a truly excellent care home. The staff is wonderful and friendly and I can’t recommend them enough. Also, a certain staff member is wonderful and I cannot thank her enough for all the great work she does. Thank you so much.
Mum came into Bowes House for respite care for 4 weeks. We were very impressed from the outset as we had a long conversation about Mum's health problems prior to admission and the home arranged for the GP to see Mum on the day of admission. The staff quickly identified that Mum needed 24-hour nursing care and she was moved to a lovely room which was bright and airy. Unfortunately Mum was very ill at the time and she died 4 days later. The nurse that was looking after Mum on the day of her death was so lovely both to Mum and to myself, my dad and my sister. All of the staff at Bowes House have been so supportive and caring throughout and we cannot praise them enough.
Bowes House kindly accepted my 93-year-old mother for a week's respite following a pacemaker operation. All the staff made it easy for us to do this so she came straight from hospital. From the first phone call, to the assessment and chat with the manager was all completed in a friendly and competent manner. Mum had a perfect week's respite. Every member of staff was caring and went out of their way to make Mum comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bowes House to anyone. Thanks from us all!
My dad had the best care, he was loved and taken good care of. The staff treated my dad with so much love and dignity, everyone went above and beyond for both my dad and my family. Such a warm loving place to be. He passed away there on 9th January 2024 at the age of 93 years old with dignity and surrounded by staff that loved him and took good care of him. Everyone there is amazing, it gave us peace of mind knowing he loved it there and the fact all staff were so kind and nice. He had vascular dementia and became bed bound but the care he got never changed even at the end. Can't thank them enough for all they have done for both my dad and my family. He died with dignity. He was there from January 2023 to January 2024. What an amazing care home, keep up the good work.
Mum is so very happy with the services she is receiving at Bowes House. The staff are always so friendly and caring. They are also very professional. I have visited my mother on several occasions and the staff are always very welcoming.
Everyone is very kind and looks after me so well.
Dad has been well cared for and all his needs have been met. All the staff are very kind and pleasant.
The staff have been extremely helpful. This is my first time in a home. It has taken a bit of getting used to. I have enjoyed the music. My family have visited me most days. I have been able to visit my family on several occasions whilst here.
Very good experience, friendly and compassionate. It has been quite an adjustment for my dad and family as our first experience of respite care, but it has been made all the easier by the kind, considerate staff, and their care has been much appreciated. Thank you.
I am so pleased with my husband's care at Bowes House Care Home. The staff are kind and caring and I am delighted with the care my husband is receiving. They even look after me when I visit.
Mum has been at Bowes House for 3 months now. I would recommend this care home. Staff are kind and caring, conscientious and helpful. Clean and safe environment with lots of activities. I need to reserve a room for my own later years! Thank you all.
I believe my wife was very fortunate to have been offered a place at Bowes House. Suffering from dementia, a heart problem and an eating disorder, my wife requires medical care I am unable to give her at home. The staff at Bowes House appear competent, caring, considerate and provide all the necessary attention that my wife’s condition demands. The rooms are private, spacious, clean and very comfortable. The whole place has a warm, welcoming feeling about it, and the staff are all very polite and friendly. Yes, Bowes House is definitely the right place for my wife and exceeds my expectations in all respects.
