View Full Details of Avonbourne Care CentreAll staff are very caring and knowledgeable. They look after my mother-in-law and understand her. At present, she is losing when it is day and night so is spending all day in bed and then getting up in the night. She needs to get out of bed in the morning, perhaps we need a meeting.
We are hugely grateful to the manager and his team at Avon Court for their kindness, compassion and unfailing good humour. Our mother moved into Avon Court on very short notice following a very distressing experience at another care home and the team couldn't have been more understanding and accommodating. They had no problem at all with her nighttime wandering, understanding it as a symptom of her advancing Alzheimer's and meeting her with care and interest as an individual. We were always made to feel welcome when we visited and kept regularly updated. Very sadly our mother died after a short illness at the end of December and again we have met with great kindness and lovely anecdotes that showed how well the manager and others had got to know her even in the short time she was a resident. It's not the fanciest of care homes in terms of decor but the rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-furnished, there is a fantastic programme of activities and most importantly, the staff really care.
After initial hesitancy, my cousin is extremely happy and joining in all the activities she is capable of doing, especially when the animals come to visit. She gets on well with the staff which is essential as she relies on them very much for her personal and nursing care. From our personal point of view, it is often difficult to contact the care team by telephone and there seems to be a need for more staff.
There is a lack of care. My friend has dementia, sometimes shes clear in her mind other times shes not and she needs compassion and care to cope. However, yesterday one of the carers was very impatient and intolerant and my friend was feeling trapped and unhappy. In a care home the food should be one of the highlights of the day and should be presented tastefully, not cups of tea in big ugly mugs, etc. Residents need a nice view from their windows, her view is reasonable but the window is very dirty.
Due to my father being partially sighted and his age (101) most things available for him were very restricted. He was very well treated by all the staff.
I am very well looked after by all nurses and carers and feel safe here. The chef and the catering staff make every effort to accommodate my dietary needs caused by my difficult stoma.
Very satisfactory.
I find living here happy comfortable and relaxing and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
Absolutely terrible place, the staff just sit on their phones and don’t treat their elders with care at all! Not impressed. My grandmother has been there just about a month and she is already leaving to be in a nicer care home. The place is disgusting and isn’t cleaned properly.
My mother arrived at Avonbourne in November 2023. On the whole, she has been well looked after but I don't think the staff were well briefed about her underlying problems, particularly with dressing herself due to shoulder injuries and also the challenges she faces with the seating as she is a tall lady and therefore finds standard chairs and toilets etc. too low. She has always cooked from scratch and finds the menu very poor, on many occasions not getting what she asked for. There is no evidence of the menu offering a healthy choice. There is too much sweet food and not enough protein and fibre.
It's always a difficult decision when it becomes apparent a relative may need full time residential care. My sister has been coming to Avonbourne for respite on a regular basis and it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to be at home. Having support from the wonderful manager and care staff they made the transition almost stress free and welcomed my sister with open arms. She has since settled very well and tells me the food and activities are great. Her room is always spotlessly clean and it is a wonderful safe environment. I leave after visits with nothing to worry about knowing she is happy and well cared for.
My mum went into this care home in May 2023 and is enjoying being there. The care is good and the carers have got to know my mum and how she works so they are fulfilling her needs. Always good entertainment which my mum takes part in. Mum was living on her own so was very lonely but now has people with her all the time. We now have peace of mind.
All the staff were kind, helpful and supportive. We felt reassured on all levels and the building and garden were safe and secure. We were treated to a wonderful lunch with my mother. The table was beautifully laid, the food was fantastic and the staff so attentive. There was always a list of activities available if you wanted to participate. My mother's room was very comfortable and it felt like her home, and she started to settle in really well. Thank you!
I am a friend of a resident and his wife. I have visited the home many times. the staff are always very helpful and my friend seems well cared for and content. the building itself is open and airy and it is a pleasure to visit.
When my mother moved into the care home, she soon settled down, and I cannot thank all of the staff for what they do for Mum on a day-to-day basis. When I visit, the staff go out of their way to make me feel very welcome on her unit, and they treat Mum with respect and dignity and are never rude to Mum, even on her challenging days. So please keep up the good work you are all doing to support my mum.
Food is not suitable for elderly patients who can now only eat basic foods. Although the staff say my mother can ask for anything, that is not her experience, in reality, and staff become off-hand with her. No real staff (most agencies) and not interested in building relationships with patients. Some reception staff rude to visitors and do not pass on messages to management. The place is generally dirty. I doubt underneath my mother's bed has ever been hoovered. Staff not proactive in helping or getting things done.
When my mother was transferred to Avonbourne Care Home, the very first time we went to visit, we were very impressed with the layout and cleanliness and friendliness of all the staff in their various departments. We would thoroughly recommend Avonbourne to anybody whose relatives need to go into this type of facility.
My father has been a resident within Avonbourne Care Centre for three weeks now and I cannot fault the care and support that all the staff have given to him, myself and my mother during this time. I was very anxious as to how he would settle into the environment given his health conditions but these anxieties were soon reduced having seen daily how well the staff interact with him and the compassion that they display for their work. During this short time, I've had contact with all the departments in the home, the manager is brilliant, the nurses and carers are second to none, the domestic staff do a great job, even the handyman lent me his screwdriver during one visit! Whilst my father cannot participate in planned activities, he certainly keeps the staff entertained and I am very grateful to them for their understanding and patience.
Avonbourne was a perfect place for Dad's recovery process, the staff and management have been great, empathetic, sympathetic and very supportive at all times. A very clean home, the meals were delicious and ample food to eat! A great entertainment team to keep the residents occupied. A wonderful place for a family member to reside.
The staff are friendly, approachable and concerned not just for my mother's well-being but for that of the family as well at what has been a difficult time. Bourne House is spotlessly clean, rooms are well presented, bright and airy and my mother has now settled in nicely.
