View Full Details of Townsend ManorMy Mum has been in Townsend Manor for two years now and the loving care she receives from the staff has definitely prolonged and improved her life.. Townsend Manor is warm, very clean and the staff are dedicated and kind to both residents and their visitors. The only problem my Mum mentions is that particularly at weekends, her alarm buzzer doesn't always get answered. I would like this to be addressed.
I have found Townsend Manor Care Home a very nice place indeed. The staff are kindly - friendly and caring- nothing being too much trouble. Their patience is remarkable. It is a modern building with lots of facilities- more than i expected. Sometimes when they are busy their are delays responding to the call button- but when the emergency button is used they are there straight away. i think it would given that nowhere is PERFECT Townsend Manor comes pretty close. The food at Townsend Manor is very good and i would compare it to restaurant quality.
I was never sure how my mum would adapt to living within a care home environment after living in a house that was isolated , but with us having the ability and support from the home management we personalised her room with pictures and some furniture from home and we created her a tub garden outside her door . Mum now has a real connection with the staff who look after her and her sense of humour can be quite infectious , she now very much feels at home at Townsend and has become very settled , she can never speak highly enough of the staff and the care and consideration they show to her , my sister and feel if we have an issue with anything we can talk to someone to resolve it
To put Mum into the care of all at Townsend Manor was the hardest decision of our lives and the guilt we feel has been overwhelming. But we have been reassured by the manager and her team, who have shown nothing but kindness and professionalism towards our Mum and indeed our family that we now know this is the right move for Mum. The care staff are all amazing and we have seen them many times now encouraging and interacting with residents, and you feel they genuinely care and love their profession - they make a difference! The home is clean and well cared for, the food is exceptional and we love the coffee shop area, where tea and cake with Mum feels like a treat. There are numerous activities planned during the week and it's a personal choice if residents choose to join in, but they are encouraged to and it's nice to see residents enjoying themselves. There are areas that need improvement, but nothing in life is perfect, but this home is as near as you can get - a home from Home
My Mother has lived in Townsend Manor since May 2024. She was admitted after several weeks in hospital after an infection and following falls. She had a few previous admissions to hospital and it became clear that, aged 99, she needed 24-hour care. She received a very warm welcome from all the staff - had a lovely ensuite bedroom with a door to the garden. Her care has been excellent, the activities provided have generally improved her quality of life and she and I know she is in the best possible place.
My dad has been a resident at Townsend Manor since November 2022. He is constantly praising the excellent care he receives and how much he loves all the staff. Whenever I visit the staff are always friendly and will answer any questions I have on my dad's care. Sadly he does not like to go out of his lounge so does not benefit from the excellent facilities, however, the activities staff do engage with him and encourage him to get involved. I am often there at mealtimes and have eaten at the home with our family and the food is excellent. The chefs go out of their way to ask if there is any particular food he would like which is great. The manageress is is often in early in the mornings and she is very approachable and supportive and listens to any comments or questions. I feel that the home is a friendly and welcoming place and I feel like the staff goes above and beyond to make Dad feel safe and happy.
The care home resembles a 4/5 star hotel but sadly although the staff remain kind, caring and vigilant, it's clear that staff numbers have dropped since Mum arrived and sometimes they are at full stretch to cater for the needs of the residents. I do feel sometimes it seems a bit sparse on staff around the home and at times Mum is still in bed at 11 am waiting for her personal care. The care home is always clean, tidy and warm and welcoming and the family are grateful that there are no restrictions on visiting and agree that with Mums' limitations she is now in the best place.
My mum has been a resident at Townsend Manor for 10 months now and in that time she has been well looked after. Despite her age and disabilities she takes part in many great activities that are on offer. She is happy and has made new friends as well as caught up with many she hasn't seen for a while. She has built up good relationships with all her carers and everyone who supports her. The medical support on hand means I don't have to worry as much as did before she moved in.
I highly recommend Townsend Manor. My mother and I have only been met with kindness, patience and understanding from all of the staff. They have done everything to help my mum settle and to make sure my mum has the correct medication and care. Townsend Manor home is beautifully decorated and has a feeling of calm. The food is of a high standard and always well presented. The cafe area downstairs is a lovely touch.
My mother has settled quickly into her spacious room and reports everyone is lovely to her and the food is good. She's enjoying having daily showers in her own wet room. Staff are kind and sensitive to her needs. They have encouraged her to be more mobile and social, where previously she had isolated herself because of her hearing difficulties. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. My mother has enjoyed some of the activities when someone has helped her to access them. She loves the Bistro area when we visit, especially the cake! As visitors, we always feel welcome and relaxed.
We are generally pleased with the care that my uncle receives. I have, however, spoken to a staff member about the state of my uncle's clothes. He has several nice shirts, jumpers and trousers, but we often find him in grubby clothes. I've tried to encourage him to put his clothes out for washing, but he says he will wash them himself, which he doesn't. The staff member I spoke to is going to check his wardrobe, get rid of anything not worth keeping and make sure that anything grubby gets washed. Otherwise he seems quite happy at Townsend.
The care my mother receives is very good, there are a few negatives but on the whole I am very happy. It does slightly shock me that there are often services not working fridges, dishwashers. Which I think are a given in quality care homes. The staff are delightful and always on hand although occasionally there has been no staff in the sitting room where my mother sits.
In general, the home is now looking tardy, including upholstery that is not looking as clean as it should. They have some very good carers, but some that are seem to do their job without going that extra distance. The events near Christmas were good, but in no small part due to events that were organised by friends/relatives of the residents; over the last year they have, on occasion, been lacking, although I appreciate it will be difficult to cater for all residents. As for value for money, regrettably no longer the case.
My dad moved into Townsend Manor on the 18th August 2023. On 1st January 2024 the fees were increased by 10%. I was not at all happy with this increase as my dad had only been there fir 4.5 months. The manager said she would put our case forward but nothing happened. Now I have been given another increase of 9.9% which I feel is totally unacceptable. Despite numerous residents including myself requesting a visit from head office to discuss, this has not materialised. The area manager attended the meeting but could tell us nothing. My dad has dementia but can still carry out his own personal care, dressing and toilet needs, therefore he requires very minimal attention from the staff. Dad has had a few falls since being in the home, some of which we were not notified about. We had to ask why he had a plaster on his forehead. Given the standard and level of care provided, I feel we are being overcharged already, prior to any further increase.
The support my dad receives is very good, staff are all very friendly, manager is very easy to approach with all problems, Dad enjoys the activities.
This care home have gone above and beyond to make sure my husband is happy and settled. He has some lovely carers who know him so well and this helps to get him to get the best care he needs. They are always willing to try new things, listen to our ideas and they have all supported me and our children as well as my husband.
My husband had only been a resident a few months before he sadly passed. Townsend Manor was my saviour. The way Townsend care for their residents is second to none. I'm truly grateful from the manager to the team of nurses and carers how quickly they worked out how to handle and approach my husband as he could be difficult at times. I was kept informed on any health or medication changes. I felt at ease with him being at Townsend Manor unlike previous nursing homes. He enjoyed the food that was served which was a must for him and he also enjoyed being taken down to the bistro area for coffee especially the cakes. We often sat here when I came to visit this is such a lovely area to be together to have a coffee especially as I was unable to take him out anymore. The rooms at Townsend Manor are spacious, airy and well-designed, especially the wet room, privacy and dignity met all in one place. They made me and my 2 dogs very welcome on all occasions. This care home is 5 stars in my eyes.
I was delighted with the level of care my Mum with dementia received. The carers soon got to know my Mum and were very adaptable in meeting her needs. Her end-of-life care was met with heartfelt care, consideration, and putting Mum first. The management was always available to talk to and discuss what was best for Mum. I really felt such gratitude to have my Mum in such a caring home as Townsend Manor.
My Dad was a resident of Townsend for just over a year. I really can't thank all the staff enough for all the love and care they gave my Dad right up to the very end. I really felt they all went above and beyond. Not only do the residents feel part of the Townsend family, we all did too. Visiting is unrestricted which makes it feel homely. There is always a member of staff available to talk to. I personally feel that not only have I lost my wonderful Dad but also some lovely friends too.
I can't fault the staff. They all did their utmost to care for my dad. Sadly, Dad was only there for about eight weeks. He died very peacefully in his room, with his family around him. The staff made it possible for the family to be with Dad for however long we wanted. There was never a time limit or set visiting hours. Also, any number of visitors could come and visit Dad, obviously being considerate of other residents. The only thing that I can find fault with was that there wasn't an over-the-bed table available. As my dad was bedbound, a table would have been very helpful. It felt as if we were part of a big family. I still go back to visit the staff, as they're all so lovely.
