View Full Details of FernleaThe outstanding feature I see at Fernlea is that all of the staff who I have come into contact with, care. The word care in this situation covers all aspects of my mother's care. From meals, to entertainment. From personal care to visits out. Not forgetting all the emotional/religious support given when her loved ones die. This care does not stop with my mother, the staff at Fernlea care for the whole family. Yes, there are times when my mother doesn't have her call bell answered within a few minutes, but that is usually at the times of day when everyone needs to go to the bathroom. The social activities range is very varied, and should suit most tastes. When moving into a care environment my mother had 2 wishes, to have an ensuite and to have a bacon sandwich for breakfast that someone else cooked. She has her wishes and I can see that although it is not her own home, she is very settled at Fernlea and is being exceptionally well looked after.
My Dad has recently moved to Fernlea from living independently at home. Sadly, his health declined and after a very hard decision, he moved to Fernlea. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very caring team and as a family, we felt so very reassured by this. My Dad has settled so well and just feels at home. He's absolutely delighted with the care and wellbeing he is receiving by all the staff. I know he's now in a safe and caring residential home which gives me such peace of mind.
When visiting care home in the evenings, doesn't appear to be enough staff on about 7 PM as when outside call button was used, there was a 20-minute delay in any staff at the main door, although busy, which is understandable. Residents needing help (buzzing) and shouting, no staff around. Then as a visitor, found a member of staff on a mobile phone sitting in corridor, while residents needing assistance, are they interested in their job! Leaves a lot to be desired!
Absolutely disgusted with this place. Every time I visit my relative here the alarm bells from patients are just ringing and ringing. I visited my sister the other day who needed the toilet. I literally sat there for a whole hour and no one came to tend to her toileting needs, it is not isolated either it is every time I visit. All you can hear is alarms ringing for hours. It seems very understaffed and in my opinion, is a disgrace. It should not be functioning if it can not provide the level of care our loved ones require. I am currently in the process of making a complaint with the local council and this place should be closed and shut down until it has the staff to function correctly and provide a suitable level of care, not leaving my sibling sat for an hour in their own faeces. On speaking to my son about it he knows a girl who works there and after discussing it with her she said that it is understaffed and when they do get the extra staff they quickly leave due to the high workload with short staff.
My 92-year old mother has been a resident of Fernlea care home for 6 years now and we continue to be absolutely delighted with every single aspect of the service. The care team and management are fantastic and always find time to respond to my calls/questions and give us updates on my mother - even when they are busy and under pressure (as has been inevitable during the last 2 years of the pandemic). In my opinion, they seem to have coped extremely well with the extreme difficulties of the pandemic and have been very rigorous in terms of their safety/health procedures. My mother herself is always complimentary about the care staff and she enjoys the food and the activities. Overall I have rated it 5 stars for every single category, which is well deserved. Thank you, Fernlea.
My mother-in-law has been a resident at Fernlea for almost 3 years. In that time she’s received first-class care with her changing needs well catered for. During Covid, staff went the extra mile to ensure the residents were able to keep in touch with family through a variety of mediums. It can be stressful all around when a family member needs to go into a care home. We feel that both management and staff have looked after us as a family and are mindful of our stresses and strains too. The team at Fernlea are professional, understanding and very caring. Thank you, everyone.
Through the difficult times of COVID, staff have gone above and beyond in keeping me informed. All staff are very friendly and welcoming at all times the care of my son is excellent, giving me great comfort when I'm not there. I look forward to hopefully in the near future all restrictions are lifted and relatives and residents can mix again, enjoy time in the lovely home environment, the bistro and lovely gardens.
My dad suffered a CVA and became a resident at Fernlea. I cannot thank the staff enough for their hard work and dedication. This makes my dad feel like he is at home. They have become his family. They are always smiling and enjoying their job. My dad could not have gone to a better place, we feel he gets five star care. They go above and beyond each and every day.
So many of our care homes and staff get bad press, I had my own previous experience caring for my father and it did have some disturbing traits. I did not choose Fernlea it was thrust upon me due to unexpected events in my life. As I walked in, I was surprised, no smell of urine! Silly but true. So Fernlea, the staff in the main are aged between 20-40 and their attitude towards the residents is both caring and professional, the attitude is also mirrored by all who work at the home ie:- front of house, maintenance and activities. The bistro provides an excellent catering experience, a range of culinary delights, international and traditional. There are many more things I could say but I leave it with my two sons who say "you look well, you look happy and we know you are safe".
