View Full Details of Gilwood Lodge Nursing HomeMy husband was taken to Gilwood Lodge in November 2023. He had challenging behaviour which they managed with expertise. He had complex medical needs which they also met with expertise. Both my husband and myself were totally supported by both management and staff. I cannot thank them enough for their love and support. He sadly passed away on 6th February, his passing was peaceful thanks to the diligence of the staff around us.
I would like to put in words the wonderful care this nursing home gives to my lovely mum. She has advanced Alzheimer's dementia and her illness is slowly getting the better of her sadly but the love and care of the team at Gilwood Lodge never fails her. The professionalism and dedication is second to none. Currently, she is in bed a little under the weather but she is turned hourly and has company sat with her making sure she is 100% comfortable. I myself am going through a tough time in my life but the management team are there for me too. They are a well-run, well-managed family of carers. Bravo!
My brother has recently moved into Gilwood Lodge due to the last care home not being adequate in many respects. I was introduced to the manager who was so very helpful and professional, a person who really cares for her patients. This is the third care home for my brother and my heart goes out to them as for the first time I am happy, content and so very pleased my brother has found somewhere he can call home.
I can’t tell you how much we as a family are relieved to have Mum at Gilwood Lodge! She has Alzheimer’s disease and our past experience of care homes has not been good, where we felt Mum was neglected and at risk of harm. At Gilwood, Mum is always warm and appropriately dressed in her own clothes, she is always clean and comfortable. The meals appear good and she is putting weight back on, staff provide hot or cold drinks as soon as she asks and encourage her to eat snacks in between. We are able to visit in her own room which is always warm, clean and with her own nic-naks is welcoming and familiar for her. Staff always stop and talk to her and us and respond quickly and accurately to any questions or concerns we have. The care she receives is fabulous, Mum always appears comfortable and very happy with the staff and the interactions that she has with them, it is very reassuring for us as a family. The home is in need of a little updating, but I believe this is underway.
I have been visiting my mother now for 3 years and find the nursing care very caring and professional. However, over these years the receptionist has never said Hello or even acknowledged myself and my siblings... to the point of being ignorant and rude (at every single visit we have made). Surely when visiting a loved one in this kind of environment, a welcome or a smile/acknowledgement would help to make a difficult visit for many more pleasant.
Having to place a loved one in a nursing home is a heart-wrenching thing to do. After visiting several homes, we were told about Gillwood Lodge and straight away it felt right. The staff were excellent. Straight talking and very easy to deal with. Dad had some very challenging behaviour and the early days weren't easy but the manager and her team stuck by us and after a short period of time Dad settled in. He still can be very challenging at times but the team here are amazing with him. The communication from everyone is excellent and everyone knows who my dad is. I get told stories about him every time I visit and the team here definitely lightens a far-from-ideal situation. They've taken a massive amount of pressure off of Mum by looking after Dad the way they do. Thanks to all of you. Keep up the good work.
My husband has been a resident since January 2023. All staff are very helpful and always pleasant and obliging. We can visit any time of day and it is always the same, all staff are ready to help where they can. Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding.
Myself and my family cannot thank all staff at Gilwood Lodge enough! From the moment my dear dad arrived at the home, over 6 months ago, the staff have welcomed him and cared for him like he was their own dad. I feel truly blessed that my dad is being cared for at Gilwood. I can say from the bottom of my heart this is home from home. We always feel welcome, nothing is ever too much trouble. I can sleep at night knowing my dad is being cared for and looked after properly. He has settled in so well, the home is clean, comfortable and most importantly safe. I feel my dad is in a safe environment with people that genuinely care for him and want to make sure he is properly looked after. Thank you all so much for everything.
From what I’ve seen the Staff are always polite and helpful with residents and visitors. The Lodge is clean and tidy and the Residents are happy and well cared for. Carers and nursing staff all do their very best to keep the residents comfortable and happy as do the Cleaning and kitchen staff.
Superb nursing home which provide excellent health care not only to my grandfather but all the service users residing here. Gilwood Lodge has been an excellent help to my grandfather providing all his needs within the home. My grandfather has always been happy with the home and the staff, he often tells me how he "gets treated like a king". With Covid-19 ongoing, my visits have always been facilitated in the most safest way for me and my grandfather. The management have always updated myself and my family with new policies regarding covid and any other issues regarding my grandfather. I can not fault the management and staff in any way, my grandfather sees all the staff members as extended family they are perfect with him. Management keep all their staff up to date with training and the ongoing Covid-19. The management and staff have always kept my grandfather safe and ensure that my visits are 100% safe when I visit. I want to thank all staff I couldn't ask for more.
All the staff I have dealt with seem really caring and loving towards the residents. I have dealt with the activity coordinator more than most as she was the one-to-one for my friend for quite some time and she is a very special lady. She gives it 100%. She goes the extra mile to make the residents and their families feel special. Since she has changed positions and become the activity coordinator, it seems from the content on Facebook that there are many more fun things going on now at Gilwood Lodge to entertain the residents. It seems really well managed by the manager and I would recommend it to anyone who was considering a residential/nursing home for their loved one.
My friend has been here a few years now has been cared for in a great way. It is a caring home with the staff being very helpful when you attend. My friend seems very happy here and before Covid, it was like a second home to me. Yes, there are things they can improve on all places have that, but generally, I am very happy with everything. Communication between the home and myself has been great, I can all anytime and usually get through, apart from a weekend. The phone can ring for a long time and then ring out. Her husband is in another care home and their contact is my prime importance, and I would like to think Gilwood for feeling the same. Helping to charge the phone and supporting the arrangements they have. The staff are very friendly and I feel happy leaving her in their secure hands.
Significant improvements to the environment and atmosphere in Gilwood Lodge have been made over the last two years, bringing it up to the standard that you would expect for a modern-day Care Home facility.
I find everybody very helpful and friendly. Always willing to talk when I ring up, the home always contacts me if I need to informed of any issues my husband may have; hospital attention. I think he has settled in very well, he comes across content and at ease.
I find the staff of Gillwood very helpful. Unfortunately due to the Covid we have not been allowed into the home, my mother was admitted during lockdown so we have been unable to look at the home inside, but what we have seen seems nice. From pictures and videos of the staff and patients there seem lots of activities to do.
The standard of care my mum has is of a very high standard. My mum has 24 hour care. The staff are very friendly and care for everyone very well. My mum has been in a few care homes over the last four years, Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home is the best, by far. Thank you all.
Beautiful place to live, but most importantly, wonderful staff. It takes away the worry and guilt of putting our loved ones in a home when we know they are comfortable and have the best care ever. Nothing is too much trouble and a big shout to one member of staff in particular, who always is cheerful and bright, despite the nasty covid making things difficult. Keep up the good work everyone - you are all wonderful.
My mother-in-law has been a resident at Gilwood Lodge for around 18 months or so now. With new management in place shortly after she arrived there, the care she receives has always been excellent but with the advent of Covid their tender loving care has stepped up to an amazing degree which has demonstrated how much real affection the caring staff have for all their residents. As we have had extremely limited contact for the last 9 or so months the care-staff have become de-facto family and friends and have provided so many wonderful experiences for them to enjoy - pamper days, art activities, musical experiences, baking, dancing - the list of creative ideas appears to be endless! In addition, they have initiated a FB page for family and friends to keep in touch and see what’s going on and to learn about developments and changes in guidelines in a timely fashion. I cannot commend and thank them enough. I am so grateful to them all for their tender, loving care. Thank you all.
My husband was put in Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home on 11th October 2018, he has settled very quickly and I can't fault the care he has had. The staff are very caring and pleasant and every morning they have an activity hour which he enjoys, they also are supportive to me and keep me well informed on how he is doing.
The staff are all really warm, friendly and attentive at all times. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Their ethos that this is the residents’ home first and foremost is printed large on the wall and this is apparent in how residents are looked after. What I loved most about this place is how the activities are all very upbeat, staff and residents genuinely all enjoy themselves during that time. The activities leader has such an amazing energy - she has fun with the residents and they absolutely love it! The activities are all designed with real people in mind and the positive impact of that is really clear to see and an absolute joy to be a part of!
