View Full Details of Hillside HouseWe cannot rate Hillside and its staff highly enough. Mum had wonderful care and although mostly in her room, she was comfortable and able to access help whenever she needed it. Her room was light and spotless with a lovely view across the valley from her window. The food was excellent and the carers looking after her were so kind. Everyone did everything they could for her until her passing.
Have felt comfortable and at home ever since my arrival in November 2022. I find the carers friendly and very helpful and very attentive and feel secure here. I should add that my family are also very grateful for the care I receive here and are happy to speak to the members of staff and, of course, the manager, if and when they wish to.
My experience in this home has been first class from the staff.
If you bypass this one, then you have missed out on something special. Hillside House is a small family-owned residential home, providing care in spacious ensuite rooms, enjoying lovely views overlooking the Devon countryside. The care and compassion shown by all the staff is second to none, making those staying here, feel wanted, safe and secure. We can't thank the staff enough for all they did for my mum and the happiness they brought her, for the 2+ years that she was at Hillside.
I cannot recommend Hillside House highly enough. Both care and home should be written large and underlined. The genuine care and compassion shown by every member of staff not just to my father but also to me and my family were second to none. Sadly, my father was a resident for only 6 months before he passed away at 96 years of age. Through the Covid-19 restrictions, Hillside House did everything that they could to ensure that residents could receive visitors in absolute safety. They recognise the importance of residents being able to see and talk to their loved ones and vice versa. Hillside House really is a home from home. There is no sense of it being an institution. There are just 14 individual rooms, each one different but all en-suite, bright and airy with superb views over the glorious Devon countryside. The tasty meals, always with a choice, are home-cooked. There’s a delightful residents’ lounge, an enclosed courtyard and plenty of places to sit and chat or just stroll outside.
Kind, friendly, helpful staff; spacious, bright, well-equipped rooms; beautiful surroundings. We were so lucky that a room was available so that high-quality care and attention could be put in place, making a difficult time the best it could be.
Wonderful position room overlooking fields and animals, pleasant outlook. Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful, lots of smiley faces. Excellent food, like staying at a nice hotel. Nice to be able to bring own personal effects; like photos, ornaments and pictures to make it feel more homely.
We were lucky to secure a room for Mum at Hillside House on the ground floor overlooking gardens/fields - a lovely outlook. The room is very pleasant with own en-suit. The staff have been lovely and have helped Mum to settle in. This is a huge change as Mum has always been self-sufficient until now! She seems to enjoy the meals provided. Family are allowed/encouraged to visit. Mum hs been allowed to bring her own personal possessions, individual pictures/photos/ small furniture items; which have helped her to settle.
Wonderful consistent care is given and we are so grateful. A brief respite stay with nourishing food for our mum - an admittedly fussy eater. Well done and thank you to the manager, mum's carer and the team.
As a qualified public health inspector employed by the local government for the best part of my working life, to assess and enforce standards of fitness, hygiene and safety in commercial businesses and premises, I feel well able to comment upon the service provided by Hillside House. I stayed at Hillside for 16 days recently and was well pleased with the experience. I am 92 years old and live on my own. I will not hesitate to return to Hillside in the future.
My mum originally came to Hillside House to convalesce after a nasty fall. Now fully recovered, she is so happy and content that she has decided to stay. Hillside House provides light, spacious and contemporary private and communal rooms with lovely countryside views. The environment is quiet and calm and the staff and manager are hard working, kind, caring and professional. My mum loves the delicious home-cooked meals and has commented on how happy and friendly all the staff is. They go out of their way to individualize her care and provide a stimulating environment for all the residents. Hillside House has a home-from-home atmosphere that is far removed from any institution and it is a pleasure to visit my mum there.
Fantastic - could not have received better care for my mother anywhere else.
I am very happy here and the staff (including the owner) are very caring. We are all made to feel 'special' and the residents (now my new friends) are lovely people.
This home really feels like HOME where staff and residents are all kind and friendly. There is a sense of freedom and encouragement. The bell system is very good and nights are quiet. All windows have lovely country views.
In September 2017 my mother became a resident at Hillside House. The decision by the family to choose that particular home was one that we will never regret. The level of care extended to my mother and all the residents is exemplary. Since being there my mother has been treated with courtesy and kindness by all members of staff who provide a range of imaginative activities throughout the week for all to enjoy. Privacy is always respected and personal choice is encouraged. Hillside House is set in a peaceful accessible location with stunning views over the beautiful Devon countryside. As this is a recently built care home all the bedrooms and communal areas have been finished to the highest standard. The facilities and amenities are first class. I can unreservedly recommend this care home.
I have stayed at Hillside House 3 times after hospital treatment. I had an excellent experience. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished with lovely views over the countryside. I needed a special diet and all my needs were catered for with delicious food. Everyone is encouraged to be comfortable and nobody has to eat in the dining room if they do not want to. I was told that the aim was for everyone to be happy. I certainly was and if I have to go to hospital again I hope that there will be a room for me to recover in. Who knows one day I might be a permanent resident. I can't think of a better place to be.
Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with far reaching views to sea at the front and down the valley to the rear. Ponies grazing, goats and ducks visually entertain. The Holistic, individualised care, home cooked meals, friendly welcoming staff and attention to detail led by the managers is simply amazing. I can only show appreciation for this hard-working, forward-looking team who are always planning new and wonderful things for all to enjoy; be it a party, craft activity, a game of cards over a cup of tea, gardening activities or you may be treated to sounds of the piano playing by one of the residents. Wonderful, empathic care for the good and bad days that chronic illness can bring. A sanctuary we are so fortunate to have found.
I call this care home, 'A little bit of heaven'. All the rooms look out over the wonderful countryside views, with goats, ducks and horses just outside. All the residents are extremely well cared for by the owner and a wonderful, cheerful, committed team of carers. The provision provided is exceptional, this includes, daily activities, lovely balanced meals, cleanliness, and beautiful surroundings. My mother in law has been a resident for 8 months, shortly after entering the home she sadly lost her husband who was also a resident. During this time she and the family were treated with respect and dignity. We continue to always feel our mum is safe, happy and well cared for. I love visiting her in the home where there is always a welcome, a smile and a cup of tea and a homemade biscuit. We all feel very lucky to have found this home.
