View Full Details of The Cambridgeshire Care HomeMy mother was a resident of the Gt. Shelford home and I think she had a marvellous time there. We had tried to look after her at home but it became apparent that even with 24-hour days of three shifts of care nurses and family members the good old family home was an issue. At Gt. Shelford, the constant attention, the very high level of care and, I must say, the equally high quality cuisine ensured that my mother's autumn months were spent wrapped within a mantle of mentally stimulating and physically comforting friendship of luxurious comfort. Even after my mother passed, the customer relations manager and deputy home manager went out of their way to help the family with much emotional support. One may not realise it until afterwards, but the time, help and attention we received form all the staff at the Home was a substantial support during the time the family needed it the most. This is something more lies outside a 'business plan', it is humanity, friendship and the essence of 'care'.
Moved my mother here from Lancashire in December from a care home she had settled in for the past year. The Cambridgeshire Care Home team have done a superb job settling her in. She is looking great and is very much at ease. She loves the staff and the environment. I found the staff responsive and very professional.
I am so happy we chose The Cambridgeshire Care Home for Mum. She is happier there than she has been in decades. She laughs a lot and makes the staff laugh, even though she is sliding into dementia. The staff know her likes, dislikes and foibles. They clearly love her and are very attentive, treating her with kindness and patience at all times. Food is delicious, varied and plentiful. I was a little concerned on a recent visit that Mum wasn't eating all her lunch. It turns out that she regularly has three breakfasts which the staff cheerfully help her with. Her room is nicely decorated and she has several pieces of furniture and paintings on the wall, making it home from home. The communication from the staff is excellent - they will telephone if there is something to pass on about an aspect of Mum's care and are always available to talk and listen when I visit. The activities are varied; Mum gets a lot out of meeting baby goats and lambs, singing and listening to the Banjo man, to name a few.
A good friend of mine has been living here for the past year. I visit her on a regular basis and I'm always impressed with the staff and facilities. Staff are attentive to not only the residents, but also guests. Special attention is paid to all aspects of residents, ensuring quality care. The facilities are very well-kept, clean, welcoming, and beautifully decorated for the holidays. The home offers a range of engaging activities for residents to participate in on a daily basis. It is with pleasure I recommend Cambridgeshire Care Home.
Having to put your loved one into a home is the worst feeling ever. I cannot rate the whole team highly enough. All of the home staff have been brilliant not only to my husband but to me as well. Friendly chats with all staff, a very happy home from home to be in and visit.
Superb care and good opportunities for residents to meet and chat. One downside, it would be better for the residents if more staff could speak English more clearly as most residents seem to be hard of hearing and this can make understanding difficult.
My mother has lived at Cambridge Care Home for over two years, and we both agree that it could not have been a better choice. It's a bright, welcoming place with comfy rooms, well-tended and attractive gardens, and plenty of space for the various activity groups to meet or just chat. Having so many on-site services like hairdressing and podiatry makes life easy and we love the Bistro when we're visiting for coffee and cake with Mum. Catering deserves a special mention as the meals are freshly prepared and are of a very high standard. The staff are unfailingly cheerful, warm, friendly and efficient and always go the extra mile. It really feels like a home from home!
What a fabulous Christmas celebration season The Cambridgeshire Care Home have given us. Where do I start? The attention to detail of all the wonderful decorations including the amazing fairy lights well before the big day. The spirit of the happy go lucky party atmosphere of the Winter Wonderland enjoyed by all. The wonderful memories of spending Christmas Day with my lovely mum enjoying a very tasty meal. The Cambridgeshire Care Home even assisted in putting our tables together with other residents which enhanced the party atmosphere. Nothing fazed the staff at all. My mum has now been experiencing each and every day the best care we could have asked for after one year. We often remark she looks better now than she did one year ago. I feel that Cambridgeshire Care Home are all extended family members. The love, care, transparency and consistent commitment is exceptional. We have no hesitation in recommending The Cambridgeshire Care Home to all we meet. Well done.
The staff have been very kind to my mother over the last four years. They all seem very genuine in their interactions with her and she is happy and I know she feels safe at the home. Happy to recommend the care home to other families.
From early December The Cambridgeshire Care Home came more alive with lights, refreshments (mulled wine), energy and joy. The Winter Wonderland event was well attended, not to be missed next year, the food fabulous (as always) the entertainment and stalls, a great festive vibe. The staff go out of their way to make sure the residents and their loved ones are included and catered for. Credit must go to the Home Manager and all the staff for putting on such a warm festive event.
My mother has been at The Cambridgeshire Care Home since September 2024. We are so thrilled with the care she is receiving. The staff have been friendly, helpful and welcoming from the start and there is a great sense of family and care. Communication is very good and we have been kept in touch on any issue, however small. Mum is living with quite severe dementia and needs a lot of stimulation. There are plenty of activities which families can also join in when visiting! Family and visitors are made so welcome at any time of the day and it feels as close to a home from home as such a place can do.
My husband has been a resident for four months. We were made so welcome on our initial visit to the home by every member of staff and that welcome has continued throughout my husband's residence there. He has settled very happily, is extremely well cared for by amazing supportive staff and enjoys the excellent range of activities on offer each day. All the residents are treated with respect and dignity but most importantly with love. The home is spotlessly clean, the rooms are attractively furnished and residents are encouraged to personalise them with favourite pieces of furniture and pictures from home. The food for every meal is delicious, beautifully served in attractive dining areas and birthdays are celebrated with wonderful birthday cakes. If we have any concerns they are dealt with immediately and likewise the staff inform us immediately if they have any concerns about my husband. We are delighted with the care and support we have received in making this decision.
Home administrator, deputy home manager and the team to the rescue! Professional, sympathetic yet very personal help, advice and assistance at the drop of a hat. So reassuring to know that your loved ones are in, without any doubt, the safest of hands.
Wonderful to see my aunt and uncle being cared for so well. My aunt was loving the Christmas background music and tapping her feet and Uncle was content and happy. We had lots of laughs, in and out of dementia, and some poignant moments too. The staff were attentive and kind and friendly, including management, receptionist and carers. I will be back!
Great welcome, delightful friendly staff. I was convalescing after a knee replacement. My only concern was not enough physiotherapy, which was necessary for me. During my two week stay I found the food was excellent. I was keen to progress, so I did as much for myself as I could. I had a game ready machine which needed regular supply of ice, this was a problem initially because of the kitchen closing at 6pm but a small freezer was found, which made life easier. Thank you.
I have unexpectedly been very unwell since April and unable to visit my Mum in the Cambridgeshire Care Home. Obviously Mum has been concerned and very worried about my health and upset that I couldn't visit her, but all of the staff have gone the extra mile to support and reassure her during my absence. I am very grateful, knowing that Mum was well cared for, and it was one less thing for me to cope with during my illness and recovery. I have recently started visiting again and receive as much care and support from the staff as Mum does! Thank you to everyone for making such a difficult time much easier, and for the care and attention given to both myself and my Mum and making us feel like we are part of one big family.
All the staff from top to bottom were wonderful and so caring. I will always have fond memories of them all.
Making judgements and/or comments on a place that you don't visit that often, sometimes not for that long and only experiencing a small part of the operation can be risky. Perceptions might be skewed by your relative's or loved one's own views when they themselves are not aware of the extent of the whole operation and organisation. For these reasons, one's judgements become more valid as time goes by and a 'portfolio of snippets' becomes the bigger picture, both of the care home itself and one's sense of how that relative or loved one is generally getting on. This crystallised with this summer's luau (garden party on steroids!) when at the first real opportunity in some years, most of the home's staff and residents were out and about in lovely weather. We always knew the staff were great but to observe them in such circumstances was a whole new angle and I can safely say it was their natural habitat! The care and affection for the residents were at a level I had never before realised.
From the very beginning, the staff have all been welcoming, supportive and caring to both me and my mother. It is very much a family atmosphere and residents are treated with dignity and respect. Mum has been very well cared for and has been happy during her time here.
I must commend The Cambridgeshire Care Home on the friendly and family environment that they provide to residents and their families. Nothing seems too much trouble to make residents feel safe, loved and cared for. We chose this home after much careful research and feel confident we have chosen the best possible place to care for our loved one. Thank you so much for all you do!
