View Full Details of The Firefly ClubMy friend has vascular dementia and stroke deficits and suffers with a great deal of anxiety and can sometimes be tearful and difficult to keep calm. The staff are very patient and recognise the signs of escalating anxiety at an early stage and intervene appropriately with distraction techniques. There are a variety of activities throughout the day for residents, which my friend enjoys enormously. Firefly is small and has a real feeling of being in a regular home rather than a care home. The facilities are superb. The Hub, which is an activities room separate from the lounge, hosts various activities such as games, music events and films for those who wish to take part, and the hydrotherapy pool is a wonderful rehabilitation resource.
Firefly was the only provider we found, local to where we live, that could care for our mothers very complex physical and emotional 'post-stroke' challenges. The facility is new, stylish and well designed and not at all like a 'typical' elderly care home. The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and because of the size of the 24-hour residential care facility (8 residents) the level of care provided is more aligned to 1-1 or 1-2 care with good staff continuity. The residents' rooms are all individual and very generously sized with smart, contemporary bathrooms. The managers are professional, lead their teams well and accessible at all times (phone or email) for discussions on any medical and general welfare. The staff genuinely care about the residents and making their days feel a little bit brighter and more positive - this shines through - during the COVID crisis, a small core team worked gruelling shifts (27+ hrs each) to ensure everyone pulled through - they went above and beyond!
I cannot praise them enough for the care, support and dedication they’ve shown us all as a family, especially through these very difficult times (coronavirus). They are always at the end of the phone and communicate and inform us all the way. Nothing is to difficult, and we are just so grateful our mum is being treated the way we would want to be treated. Lovely food, great management, great staff and lovely and clean throughout, what more can we ask for.
